Not sure if we've had any huge comebacks. Hell, it might be Pokemon this contest or Sephiroth (v. Pokemon) in the CB.

FFX would never kill Melee in a 1v1, it's not FFVII. FFX had OoT in 3 of it's matches last year, stop overrating FFX's strength. It's not even close to being a top 5 game.

Maybe I used the word "kill" wrong. I meant beat. And also, what would the top 5 games be?

Ocarina of Time
Final Fantasy VII

The rest are up for debate, but Zelda: LttP, Pokemon RBY, Mario World/64, and Melee/Brawl are probably the top candidates. FFX might squeeze in there, but I very much doubt it. I'd take LttP, three Mario games, and at least one Smash to beat it without hesitation.

That KFChester guy made the right move banking, in my opinion. Sometimes you get a little too full of yourself when you get a streak that high, and then if you make one wrong move, bam, its all gone. Having 120k points puts you in awesome shape, so its an okay time to bank!

There are only 2-3 matches I'm even moderately concerned about in round 2. As long as I can navigate those without a problem, I should be able to streak the entire second round. Course, I'm sitting on zero banked points and only 17k riding, so I have no illusions as to any possibility of getting on the board lol.

KFChester is in a very good position. Wolf_Kenri (2nd place) would need a 20 match streak just to catch up to KFChester's current point total. Abysia (4th place) needs a 30 match streak to catch up.

Just out of curiosity, what has been the largest comeback in a 12-hour match, based purely on number of votes.

Ocelot came back 666 votes against Red, although he ended up losing. Sephiroth also had a ~600 vote comeback against Missingno. Crono's comeback against Missingno was ~500, and Cloud's comeback against Snake was ~400.

Rock Band 2's ~400 vote comeback against Deus Ex is the biggest so far this contest.

Depends on how lucky, or how good at predictions you are. Abysia banked when he was sitting at second place a while back, and he's steadily losing spots because of having to start a new streak. At that point, you have to hope the people that are catching up to you screw up, which is a bad place to be in.

we've had only one contest ever with a perfect bracket iirc, and that was the Series contest which only had 32 contestants and was very predictable overall. Its not just luck, its basically impossible.

4 way never counts.

If this is true, it would make a lot more sense for R/B/Y to be that strong (because it doesn't count). And wasn't D/P/P the strongest Pokemon generation? And R/S/E the weakest? I'm so confused right now.

well yeah, if you're at like sub 20k at this point, you can't bank. I'm talking about the top guys though, like people questioning why Chester banked. He banked at 120k and is in a great position now, especially since other top people banked. A lot better than losing a match and being put back down to 0.

never banking is the perfect way to lose. you're GOING to lose a match, that is inevitable. So its good to bank after long streaks on debateable matches.

By "never" people actually mean something like "not until I hit a minimum of 40+ matches in a row". If you've hit 80 in a row and are way ahead of second place, obviously you're going to bank. If you're just playing for a good score and not to win, the strategy changes and "never bank" is no longer the best strategy.

It's just odd seeing the three top brackets (having never banked before) all banking at once on the same match. I think at the very least, the second or third place guy would realize that to reach Chester, they would need to continue making picks till he guesses wrong or banks.

Yeah, it's a bit ridiculous, I know, but the similar behavior is a red flag to me anyway.

UC2/SFIV was a sensible place to bank, either if you don't bank there, the ToS/GOW match should be a good place to bank.

Man, Street Fighter IV didn't pull through... Uncharted won comfortably as expected based on post-R1 expectations.... so far this round has been too predictable. I -need- unpredictable things to happen this round or else I'm in big trouble!

For instance, I need RE5 to turn out much stronger than what was expected so that ToS can win!

And, why is everyone predicting Okami with 60+% tomorrow? Shouldn't Demon's Souls beat NMH with great ease?
