~*Say What? Common Stats Topic Lingo Defined*~

SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense.

Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. See above for a watered down explanation for how the stats are calculated.

Noble Nine - Link, Cloud, Solid Snake, Sephiroth, Mario, Crono, Sonic, Samus and Mega Man.

Hooray Round 2! The problem with 128 game brackets is we get an awful lot of fodder producing uninteresting matches in round 1.

58 points, among the top 109 brackets. Since I altered my bracket just a few days before the deadline (if not THE day of it) I will be near or at the bottom of those 58-pointers.... so, I will need either a bunch of brackets to fall on Team Fortress 2/Batman, or Street Fighter IV needs to win. =O

So, not one soul missed less than 3 matches in Round 1... interesting. Well done, SBAllen.

Fr0g802 was the only bracket with a score of 61 at the end of the Winter 2010 Character Battle. There were 10 brackets with a score of 60 and 36 with a score of 59. The character battle has 25568 brackets total compared to 31314 for this contest.

Gears of War was huge on the Xbox360 while TTYD was a Mario spin-off on the Gamecube. If I didn't know much about the site I would've gone with Gears of War.

"Top option" factor? Since when did this idea come up? I think voters who don't care will just not vote rather than tending for the top option.... in some cases their cursor might be closer to the bottom option, too!

The idea first came up in 2004 during Vyse/Laharl.

If a person is given a random choice they usually pick the first one a bit more often than the other choices.

Analysis

You’d think Deus Ex fans would be happy that their game made it to the second round, but apparently it didn’t win by enough. I can only imagine the faces of the fans when they see it suffering one of the biggest blowouts of the second round. While Rock Band 2 losing did shock the board it was probably more Rock Band 2 performing really badly than Deus Ex having any strength as the game and others have shown to us time and time again that GameFAQs does not care about old PC games.

While Fallout 3 performed beyond expectation last round and no one should take that away from the game people should take a step back and consider the other possibility. Since the beginning of the contest we have seen pretty much every single Playstation 3 game underperform to our expectations so perhaps inFamous really is that weak. Fallout 3 was also enjoying the release of Fallout: New Vegas and while the game is still talked about it has been a month since the game has been released and a slight drop in strength could be possibly.

Even if inFamous is really that weak and the boost from New Vegas has died down Fallout should be really pushing for a tripling in this match. No one cares about Deus Ex and I’m still surprised that Rock Band 2 somehow managed to lose that match. If the game gets close to 80% I think people should start feeling good about it reaching the semi-finals.

We lose a -3, a -4 but the -5s go perfect. The prediction percentage for the match was pretty good and about what you would expect.

The -4 who got it wrong fell off the Top 50. Xade76 did not have Oblivion beating SC2.

For what it's worth, Deus Ex got 17.14% on MGS and 19.12% on GS in BGE2 last year. Let's see how far away FO3 is from them.

Didn't Deus Ex get around 17% on MGS1? It's probably tougher to get that little 1v1 than 4-ways, and FO3 is likely a good bit below MGS1. Don't really consider 75% very bad from FO3.

I considered creating 50 accounts all with the same bracket just so I could dominate the leaderboard if I ended up high enough.

Of course, it was too big a hassle for me to do that when chances were I wouldn't even get on the leaderboard in the first place, but I can't hate Luster for doing the same thing. Marvel at his free time, sure.
