~*Simple Explanation of Extrapolated Standings*~
A = Strongest Character
B = Character Weaker than A
C = Character Weaker than B
To figure out a character's Xsts Percentage ---> [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
To compare how C would do against B ---> [(CvA)/(BvA)]*50 = CvB
To figure out how B would do against A ---> [(CvA)/(CvB)]*50 = BvA

~*Say What? Common Stats Topic Lingo Defined*~

SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense.

Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. See above for a watered down explanation for how the stats are calculated.

Noble Nine - Link, Cloud, Solid Snake, Sephiroth, Mario, Crono, Sonic, Samus and Mega Man.
---
Nominate Crono so he can get a higher seed and avoid being fed to Clinkeroth early in the contest.

I like games that are enjoyable -- that's about the only criteria a game needs to meet for me. Whether that enjoyment comes from the story and characters, or solely the actual game itself, it's all the same. Vlado makes sense with his favorites, but he's also as narrow as someone who swears by Nintendo.

In both regards, The Thousand Year Door wins all. Tweaks the gameplay of Paper Mario a bit with stuff like audiences and giving partners HP, adding some strategy to the mix, while also making some interesting, even touching story moments. It's the first Mario game as far as I know that actually touches on death, and it surprisingly has some other dark themes as well. It's not FFTactics, but it's quite a step up for a Mario game.

I want to play it now.

I do like the gameplay in TTYD quite a bit (the audiences were really cool), but for some reason, the story didn't really grab me. Aside from "Paper Luigi" and the Glitz Pit, I honestly found the plot kind of boring, and I'm not even really sure why.

I liked both Paper Marios the same I guess. I heard someone once say that Paper Mario is a Mario game which just so happens to be an RPG, while Paper Mario 2 is an RPG which just so happens to be a Mario game, and I think that's a pretty good distinction.

I liked Superstar Saga more than either of them though. It's a shame it didn't get in.

That percentile is actually lower than I expected, I was expecting something similar to Halo 3 vs Sunshine and SA2 vs SFIV, where the casuals would heavily favor MvC2.
I guess people overestimated a Mario game that isn't Sunshine.

Match LII: (4) World of Warcraft vs. (13) Animal Crossing

Information

Name: World of Warcraft
Year: 2004
Previous Performance: SpC2k9 – 3rd in round 2

Name: Animal Crossing
Year: 2002
Previous Performance: N/A

Analysis

What was originally thought to be a simple match now has people fearing for an upset and I’m not really sure why. While it is true that if there was a game that performs differently in one on one it would be World of Warcraft, but you still have to look at its opponent.

Of course with pretty much no non-SFF polls available to the series it is pretty hard to rank Animal Crossing. What we can estimate is that the game is very low on the Nintendo totem pole. Even in the character battle Tom Nook has looked terrible, though like other games in this contest you don’t play this one for the characters.

The main reason why people think World of Warcraft will be weaker in this format was the performance of Arthas in the previous contest. While Kefka’s performance against Bowser made it look a bit better it was still pretty bad. There is however an explanation for Arthas’ drop in strength. In 2008 an expansion pack for World of Warcraft that featured Arthas was released. Even though GameFAQs doesn’t care about World of Warcraft compare to other sites it was still pretty hyped here.

One of the bigger arguments for Animal Crossing is that the playership for World of Warcraft is something around 35% and considering that you need 50% to win it would be impossible for the game to win. First if you take the same poll for Animal Crossing I wouldn’t be surprised to see the game finish with a similar percent. Second people need to stop thinking that an entrant has some sort of cap. This is no different than the people that thought Ansem had a chance at tripling CATS. If there is a weak enough opponent anything can win, I think this contest has done well showing that with all of these fodder vs. fodder matches.

World of Warcraft being weaker is a possibility, but Animal Crossing still requires to have some sort of strength for it to capitalize it. The people supporting it seem to forget that the series is pretty weak for a Nintendo series, sure it might put decent numbers, but it isn’t going to be touching World of Warcraft.

charmander6000’s Bracket: World of Warcraft > Animal Crossing

charmander6000’s Prediction: World of Warcraft wins, 64.78% - 35.22%
