Didn't we have a similiar thing happen with Kratos/Sackboy during the super bowl?

Yes, it happened in that match as well. In fact, the Super Bowl is so popular among Americans that after the Super Bowl ended, the overall vote intake per update increased slightly. Vote totals per hour in the Kratos/Sackboy match:

1:00 | 10292
2:00 | 9098
3:00 | 8212
4:00 | 7365
5:00 | 6541
6:00 | 5838
7:00 | 4575
8:00 | 4122
9:00 | 3841
10:00 | 3577
11:00 | 4190
12:00 | 3514

I think the Super Bowl started around 6:00 PM, so there was a huge drop off from 6:00-7:00 PM. I think the game ended around 10:00 PM and then vote totals spiked in the 10:00-11:00 PM hour.

I still have a hard time believing hockey actually mattered that much in Ryu/Dante. Gradual trends is one thing, Ryu spiking every time there was an intermission is.....well I really want to call it random variation, but it just kept happening!

As a Canadian I can tell you that almost everyone was watching the game. Stats showed that 2/3 of all Canadian watched the entire game and about 4/5 watched part of the game. The US didn't have as crazy numbers, but I heard it was one of the most watched tv events in US history. It isn't that much of a stretch to believe it would cause a few percent swings and given how close the match was it only needed a couple of percent to make a difference.

Even more hilarious is the usage trend for water during that game in Canada.

That is amazing. The tax graph seems a lot less variable, but the water consumption is just lol.

And now presenting.....geolocation projections! These are based on the first two hours, and assume NMSBW will maintain its current percentage in all continents throughout the rest of the match. In reality, I expect NMSBW to lose ground in North America as we get out of the day vote and into the night vote, so these projections should underrate MvC2's chances of a comeback.

Geolocation Projection: NSMBW wins with 50.64%

Hourly projections:

3:00 | 51.06%
4:00 | 51.07%
5:00 | 51.19%
6:00 | 51.10%
7:00 | 50.78%
8:00 | 50.43%
9:00 | 50.21%
10:00 | 49.98%
11:00 | 49.74%
12:00 | 49.73%

Geolocation trends seem pretty weak in the grand scheme of things- MvC2 will have to rely on the far more powerful day/night trends to win this one.

Also those geolocation projections work only at a continental level, so they ignore California making up a higher percentage of North American votes later in the poll. That probably makes MvC2 look better but not by enough to win without it taking the night vote.

Canada is doing a good job at countering the rest of North America though BC/Alberta probably have less voters compare to Ontario/Quebec. Then again Eastern US probably has more voters than Western US.

Not really. The Wii is terrible, and this means a lot for the one match this contest that matters.

Brawl is screwed.

This isn't "a fighting game", it's Marvel vs. Capcom 2... and a Mario game that has shown no sign of being particularly popular on this site. Mario Galaxy would win this match.

Have you seen a multi-system poll lately? The Wii is a joke on this site now.

But disliking a console isn't going to make people retroactively decide to dislike a game. It could totally bode poorly for like... Skyward Sword, but people here already like Brawl. Deciding at a later time that they dislike the Wii shouldn't change that.

People only like or dislike a console because of the games on it. If they love lots of Wii games, they're not going to hate the console. And NSMBW was never liked much.

I knew that NSBWii was gonna be pretty damn weak, but honestly there weren't many signs out there of MvC2 being strong at all. For every bad NSBWii poll there is there are two weak MvC2 polls.

Overanalysis is actually what caused me to go back on my MvC2 pick... though luckily for my bracket I guess I only overanalyzed after bracket lockdown.

North America is already for MvC2, though.

That might be true, but Europe is favoring Mario here. I think Mario has to at least maintain 49.50% or better in North America to have a shot at winning overall. South America, Asia, and Oceania are favoring MvC2, but not by a whole lot and they won't affect things that much because each one of them contributes less than 3% of the votes to the overall vote total. Europe is what will reverse North America as Mario is at nearly 59% there.

And like every one of those weak MvC polls is from 2003 or earlier. This poll is the first time in over seven years that MvC2 has been in a poll.

But MvC3 was doing pretty well in hype polls, so I just uh... extrapolated it or something into an MvC2 win.
