We've seen a lot of Nintendo low tier games do well this contest, as long as they're not too closely associated with the Wii. Golden Sun, Fire Emblem, Mother 3.....basically there is no such thing as an obscure Nintendo game (that makes the contest, anyway).

When has there ever been any indication that Animal Crossing is even semi-noteworthy? There's not much reason to give AC any credit in this match. It all on WoW, whether it wins or loses.

And I'm even more confused at the idea of using a 2002 GOTY poll, especially one where the games were fighting for peanuts. The fact that it was 2002 is enough to discredit it today, but are we really going to trust that the result holds once Metroid Prime is removed?

Animal Crossing was fairly big back in 2003. The 2002 GOTY poll doesn't mean too much, but it supports my instinct. I can see why WoW is the favorite, but I feel pretty good about Animal Crossing nonetheless for whatever reason.

Animal Crossing is cutesy, therefore associated with the Wii more than those other series. It is also clearly weaker and less well liked than FE and GS.

Ok, no one actually thinks that WoW will lose, I got WoW on my battle picks despite having AC on my bracket (which was really a throw-away 1 point favorite pick, though seeing at all the matches I've missed so far, I probably shouldn't have done that).

But the thing is that Animal Crossing was actually played and is decently popular on its own.

Plus it might get all the joke votes by people who would find it funny to see World of Warcraft lose to Animal Crossing, but the average voter doesn't think that way.

Paper Mario gross

Katamari is pretty weak, though. This was always going to be pretty high, though maybe not this high. I would have figured a doubling here, so we'll see where PM falls after we get out of the crazy early vote.

If Paper Mario wallops WoW, it would make Prime look a quite a bit scarier. WoW consistently scored in the lower 40s on MGS3. If it gets easily dispatched by Paper Mario, which got easily dispatched by Prime, one could theoretically argue Prime > MGS3. Not that I'd ever use THAT kinda logic or anything, but you know how some people are!

Not as bad as I thought it would be. Unlike the gurus overwhelmingly backing the loser, the casuals saw it as a tough match and were split. The -3 brackets oddly get hammered really hard. They don't even break 30 and the tiers around them are in the mid to high 40s. The number of -3 brackets wasn't that small either. The higher tiers actually end up doing slightly worse than the lower tiers. The prediction percentage actually rises to 50 when you go down to the -13s. Board 8 got blasted again but we'll recover eventually.

19 people fell off the Top 50 this time. AshenSky, PSU_Jer, fount_of_evil, Junkcar02, Winney1907, Burns1111, DDPadawan, DeceitfulHawk, ZenzokukenX, firebotslash, Air_Pollution, CaptainLeapYear, Land_Pollution, 6-Hour_Power, Anti_LUEshi, Zero_Bracket, Mouth-Wash, Lame-Username and Black-LUEsday did not have MvC2 beating NSMBW.

15 people got the match wrong and survived. warriorsallofit, Gambone, Rializer, Warriorwsh89, Simmedon, chriscam23, grayfox9996, clayallen17, MercenaryXL, hoffu, sycamore32, Mystical_Moon, psychosil315, YodaCracker and NikkiSixx also did not have MvC2 beating NSMBW.

I mean not many might consider it the greatest game ever but....

You basically have to find someone that doesn't like mario or rpgs to not like paper mario.

At least niche rpgs overperform on Gamefaqs. And both of the katamari characters to appear in matches were bottom of the barrel fodder
