Personally, I never had many doubts about Zack's popularity. I've never lost points due to underestimating Zack or Crisis Core's influence, but people are eager to overshoot the popularity of both because they have got burned by it in the wrong way. Zack and Crisis Core are two entirely different beasts, they shouldn't be treated as the same thing. Crisis Core is more popular than your normal PSP game, but it still isn't some monster game. It isn't going to give Half-Life 2 a decent run for its money; it's not going to put up a challenge against a real game. I think that match with FFXII is far more indicative of the declining popularity of itself as a game rather than some strength on Crisis Core's part. That game received equally as mixed reception as FFXII, it's not as though it's a beloved PSP game that everyone adores.

I think Zach is the rare exception where a character surpasses the popularity of the game he comes from. But that really isn't surprising, since he got his start as a backdrop character from FF7.

In the middle of the match, FF12 was running with about 57%, and I said that that sort of middling showing made it difficult to make any sort of prediction about the round two match (as opposed to seeing the game barely struggle to win, or completely blow out its competitor). But having been pulled down to a 45/55 showing, I think it's pretty easy to assume that FF12 is going to blow the next match, assuming the infamous Final Fantasy Night Vote doesn't kick Portal's ass.

Actually several characters are like that:

Kirby (Or almost anyone from Smash Bros. that isn't from Mario, Zelda, or Pokemon)
Samus
Mega Man
Sonic
Dante
Ryu
Ryu Hayabusa

That game received equally as mixed reception as FFXII, it's not as though it's a beloved PSP game that everyone adores.

Its still the best received game on its entire system on a site like Gamefaqs. Lets not kid ourselves here.

This would be noteworthy if there was any sort of competition for that title. That speaks less about Crisis Core and more about how pitiful the software lineup is on the PSP.

And I don't buy Portal > Half Life 2, and Half Life 2 barely beat FFXII. Portal should be the favorite in that match, but its not given at all. I do expect people to be calling it for Portal when its like 57-58% at the freeze though!

I don't know about Crisis Core being the best received PSP game. I've heard the game has pretty mixed reception and it's certainly not the highest rated PSP game either.

I can agree with that part, but that's pretty much due to Final Fantasy being one of the biggest and most loved series on this site. Reception wise among fans I've heard all kinds of mixed stuff. The only thing I've seen people agree on is Zack being awesome.

BBS has a better average rating than Crisis Core, seems better received by fans than Crisis Core, and sold more than Peace Walker. If it didn't beat Peace Walker here I'd be shocked.

I've heard people saying Birth by Sleep is just as good, if not better than the mainline KH games. I haven't played it yet myself, but it seems to be well received from what I've heard. I wouldn't be surprised if it was played more than Peacewalker by people who visit this site either.

Looks like it. This is an embarrassing ASV for ME. Turns out that it's a bad ASV game after all. Thought it would have done better than this with the ASV given that most of its fanbase is for the Xbox 360 version, although it does exist on the PC.

We've so far seen ME get floored by Left 4 Dead down to 14% and then fail to break 70% on a PopCap game. No great reason why Skies couldn't win that one.

This ASV doesn't help it's case, though. SoA probably starts with a big early vote and makes ME look bad for a while, at least.

Yea, but Skies barely beat a 10 year old Bioware game barely anyone on the site has played. Theres no reason to think a much more relevant and popular Bioware game would be as weak as Baldurs Gate 2.

Man, you people are nuts. Skies barely beat Baldur's Gate II; it has no chance at all against Mass Effect. That one won't be close -- ME should put a real hurting on it, nearly-but-not quite as badly as it's doing here.

I only asked because I was curious. I expected Mass Effect to have around 80-85% on a game like Plants vs Zombies. Maybe I overestimated it, but I kind of figured it'd be similar to facing a game like Nintendogs or something.

I don't think a game being new or old makes it any more or less relevant in the context of a game of the decade contest. I'm definitely not seeing this trend of old games getting stomped by newer stuff so far if that's what you think is happening.

Skies may not be super strong but I'd certainly never consider it fodder both in characters and games its a single notch above that. My gut feeling on Mass Effect is that it has performed like fodder in both its matches so its got it all to prove next round. I'd definitely be struck surprised at the strength of Plants vs Zombies if Mass Effect did go on to win, its the type of game format you'd typically expect to nosedive on Gamefaqs.

Plants vs. Zombies did better than Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn in the vote in poll and was barely behind Ninja Gaiden. There is no reason at all to think it is utter fodder. Especially with the obvious joke votes it's getting from the pic it has.

Well with this being a heavy RPG-orientated site, plant monsters usually induce status effects, which are always annoying as hell.
That probably explains why it was so high.

Though SBAllen should run that poll again to see what people would currently think.
