Not just any mario game either, but a 2D style one in the SMW/SMB3 mold, platformers of that style with the mario brand really should be impressing.

Nah, I think SF4 is more popular. remember, MvC2 was one of those games that was really really rare and expensive since it barely sold. SF4 is a multiple million seller. MVC2 might have more vocal fans, but that thing is weak. Its gonna get clobbered

Let's face it, it's the 2nd game in the series that anyone cares about. The fact that it nearly matched up to Mortal Kombat based on mostly that one game is pretty telling, imo. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if SF2 beats SF4 with 60% or so and MvC got 40% against the entire series.

I know MW2 has dropped A LOT from 2009 to nowadays, even with Black Ops running around. The hate has grown bigger and bigger with time, just as with GTAIV.

I'm just saying I was finding it hard to believe such a weak caliber game like NSMBW could have put such big numbers on those games and not finding it impressive. I was obviously missing something...

I'm strongly siding with Marvel, I don't expect it to be close. I'm yet to see an argument for NSMBW other than "it's Mario" which defies voting trends that have been present through the contest.

I picked NSMBWii and never thought twice, but now that I look at some polls with MvC in them, I'm thinking this is a dodgy match, much more so than FFXII/CC.

I highly doubt MW2 would perform nearly as good today as it did in that 2009 GOTY poll. I don't even think half as good. Therefore, the strength MW2 had back then was huge.

Also, would you take SMS > NSMBW? Because I'll take the original NSMB to beat SMS but I'm not sure about the Wii version.

Yeah, you would think a 2D style Mario game would be the sort of game that GameFAQs would jump all over, given that the strongest Mario games (SMW and SMB3) are both 2D style games.

NSMBWii is likely a good bit weaker than Sunshine.

I actually don't think this is the case, and in fact, I'd take NSMBWii over Sunshine. It doesn't receive nearly as much hate as Sunshine does - the game received a lot of pre-release hate, to be sure, but the final product ended up impressing most players (as far as I know).

But even if NSMBWii is equal to Sunshine - which is definitely possible - that still means that it's worth about 47.5% on Halo 3. I doubt Marvel would come close to that, honestly.

Because FF12 still has an outside-shot in a match we've argued a lot over and I'm still kinda cautious about Gears 2 being worth a damn. Gears 1 flopped big-time last year, and the vote-in Gears 2 won could use some review:

--> We've seen Soul Calibur look bad last year and we've never really seen much anything from the Sims be worth a damn...yet SC2 and Sims took second and third place there.
--> It's not like C:DoS, GH2, or VJ have looked good, and we know Wii Sports will be mauled by LoZ:MM even if there wasn't SFF.
--> Despite lots of foddery fodder (bottom three are freeware becoming WiiWare, Umineko, and a game that lost to Umineko) to compliment the above skepticism, Gears 2 had far lower percentage than AC or GoW did in their polls; LoD had the lowest percentage of them, but LoD's competition was tougher and I'll take LoD's follow-up of 42.6% on Uncharted 2 to beat Gears 2's follow-up of 28.53% on Portal.

I had some confidence in Portal before the contest and this round's done a lot to increase it, but really, unless Portal beats HL2 and/or FF12's dropped, we're still going to have a pretty close match. It'd hard to imagine Portal losing, whether it be close or a blow-out, but Gears 2 and CC:FF7 aren't great to rely on for informative comparisons either.


Besides, I'm still taking FF12 to beat DA:O or ME, so grouping it with its opponent isn't such a sin.

That's fine. I don't think FFXII over either one of those is a given, but it's a debatable match(es). I think ME will outdo whatever percentage FFXII puts on Portal, mostly because I don't think FFXII will give much of a fight there. It was a SFF match, but I don't think it particularly speaks well of FFXII that it could barely get 55% against a spin-off FFVII game on the PSP. I also don't believe that CC would get anywhere near a doubling on Gears 2, which is supposedly what it needs to put FFXII up on Portal's level. It would surprising to me to see Portal struggle with FFXII, considering their two matches and everything that has been there for the game this year. If it loses, that's just rough on Portal's part. There's not much reason for that to happen.

I don't take CC:FF7 to double Gears 2, either. That said, how many times have we doubted ZackFAQs? He's beaten Cecil/Zidane/Yuna, outperformed Cid against Mega Man, and CC:FF7 just broke 44% on a mainline FF-game -- even if it's FF12. I know Zack's reception and CC:FF7's reception aren't the same, but that's damn good for a PSP-game. It surprising us against Gears 2 wouldn't be the biggest shock it's pulled after everything else we've seen regarding it.
