To figure out a character's Xsts Percentage ---> [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
To compare how C would do against B ---> [(CvA)/(BvA)]*50 = CvB
To figure out how B would do against A ---> [(CvA)/(CvB)]*50 = BvA

~*Say What? Common Stats Topic Lingo Defined*~

SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense.

Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. See above for a watered down explanation for how the stats are calculated.

Noble Nine - Link, Cloud, Solid Snake, Sephiroth, Mario, Crono, Sonic, Samus and Mega Man.

My thoughts on the remaining "debated" matches in Round 1.

MvC2 vs NSMB:Wii

NSMB isn't held in high regard among the gaming community despite its impressive sales. It never seemed to perform well in poll of the days so theres very valid grounds for questioning if this can tackle something undoubtedly held in high esteem by gamers. The main grounds for NSMB being the favourite here I'd imagine is by association with Mario but I think this contest has shown very few weak games being carried on the strength of its series. Sunshine certainly struggled to do anything with it, as did Dissidia, I don't think NSMB would be any different, and certainly this poll putting it close to the likes of Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter gives MvC a fighting chance. http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2790

World of Warcraft vs Animal Crossing

WoW is just suffering from Halo syndrome here of having a small group of people who'll anti-vote it against anything and thus consider it liable to lose to just about anything. In reality this contest has shown people are taking the GotD thing seriously and joke voting isn't really present, neither is heavy anti-voting or series voting based on Halo's wins. WoW will do just fine as it did in the previous game contest and given the influence this game has had in the past 10 years it may especially stand out in this contest. AC has always been a joke and never performed well in any situation, the best it can hope for here is to win the board vote and drag WoW under 60% which would be an embarassment for it IMO.

Upset Potential: Zero

Sotc vs The Sims

Sotc isn't as cult or obscure as some people think, the Sims is far more casual than some people think. The Sims is a non-gamer kind of game, the people that play and obsess over it do not visit this site I'd wager. I think it was an influential game in the last decade and can see the logic in people thinking its strength will surprise but to the extent of toppling sotc? No way, its out of its range.

Upset Potential: Zero

Chrono Cross v DQ8

This one has me worried, DQ has rarely disgraced itself in PotDs and certainly not in the series contest where it put up decent numbers on Smash. Chrono Cross has pretty much hobbled around 10% in any poll this decade, judging by trends won't be able to leech heavily off CT and wasn't released to 20% of the voting public which is a rather big problem in a poll you need to pull over 50%. DQ is the bigger name, its the bigger series, it isn't 10 years old and is probably the more neutral friendly. Gamefaqs has always been a bit weird when it comes to Chrono games so I'm a bit reluctant to use logic for this one.

Upset Potential: High (Still don't know what I'm picking here...)

TTYD vs Gears

After what Gears 2 did I think any upset chance has to be remote at this stage.

Upset Potential: Low

Oblivion vs Soul Calibur 2

30% on Metal Gear, 49% on Kingdom Hearts. The long history of a shock upset in the last match of the first round. This one deeply unsettles me.
Especially odd how this upset isn't being seriously discussed when Oblivion only beat WoW by 2000 votes in the last games contest and freaking AC is being given upset potential in that one....

MvC2 vs. NSMB:wii has me very worried, at that point I will have 17100 points, and i cant bank as if I get that one right then I pretty much get another 17000 until the next debated match, and I only have 1500 banked so far so this is my best chance to get a large number of points since i submitted a karma entry instead of a prize entry.

I'll have 35100 by that point. Take Mario and don't look back.

Mass Effect should have the better day vote. Mass Effect's good day vote is not noticeable in its one contest match from last year, because Halo 3 was in the match and stole Mass Effect's day vote.
