I'd honestly pick Half-Life 2 to be the 2nd strongest Western game after GoldenEye. I do think it's going to beat Fallout 3, even if that's not what I picked in my bracket. What's funny is that no matter whether Portal loses its next match or not, the HL2 > FO3 pick still looks better. Take a look:

-If Portal loses, it'll prove that this site will gravitate towards the older game in matches.
-If Portal wins, I don't even need to explain it.

Also I have a feeling that TF2/Fable served as a template for how HL2/GoW will go.

Anyways I think Portal will defeat FFXII now. It SHOULD, anyways!

I don't think we can read anything from this match. Crisis Core's range of strength is huge, and there's also SFF possible.

I wouldn't be that surprised if HL2 beat Fallout, but you're logic is...sketchy, to say the least :)

i don't think HL2 vs. GoW will be that close. HL2 should win with room to spare.

The only thing going for FF12 here is a night match against Portal, which will help out FF12 a bit. Portal appears to have a bad night vote today.

Analysis

If anyone thinks Crisis Core has a chance here they better think Dark Link would be near elite. I’m serious; the only reason people have given this match any thought is because of the Final Fantasy VII tag. It’s not like Final Fantasy XII was a weak game, despite losing to Half-Life 2 it put some decent numbers on Twilight Princess.

Voters are not stupid, well they are in some areas, but they can tell that despite the tag the game isn’t Final Fantasy VII. Like Dissidia having the Final Fantasy tag probably helps it get some votes that it normally wouldn’t, but when you’re up against a mainline Final Fantasy game I think that stops mattering. Sure Final Fantasy XII isn’t the most loved game of the series, but Crisis Core isn’t adored by fan either.

This match has potential to be quite ugly once everything is said and done and while it is possible for Crisis Core to avoid SFF I believe a mainline Final Fantasy has the power to score one against a sideline game on a handheld. Then again Final Fantasy X was unable to do that against Tactics Advance.

I would be shocked if FF12 gets anywhere near 66% on Crisis Core. I am guessing its more like 56%-58% .

FFXII will disappoint yet again and maybe, just maybe, stop getting you guys to think the bathiers, vaans, and the game itself has contest strength

Crisis Core will win this im fairly certain. FFXII related stuff has never impressed me in these contests

FFXII was almost able to beat Half-LIfe 2 in that last game contest. Based off that, I'd definitely take XII to beat Modern Warfare 2. Dissidia could not beat Modern Warfare 2, wasn't even close. Based off GotY polls and just... assumption, I would not expect Crisis Core to be substantially more popular than Dissidia.


so yeah, maybe that's not entirely solid evidence there, but I will be hyper shocked if XII loses this one.

Hmm. My Crisis Core to the division finals pick is looking pretty suspect right now.

Basically I went with CC cuz the main character of CC would wipe the floor with any FF12 character. And if you want to use "but he's in ff7 for 5 minutes in an optional scene!", then that just strengthens my argument that people vote blindly for FF7

You know, the thing I've never understood about this next match is why people think Crisis Core is anymore well-liked than FFXII. CC had a very mixed, if not outright negative, reception when it came out. It's not as though this is some beloved game or anything. Zack did well, sure, but you can like Zack and not particularly care for Crisis Core. For as long as the game has been out that's been the case. Mixed reception, PSP game, far fewer players, up against a mainline FF -- hard to imagine a scenario where CC wins.

FF12 had a positive reception when it came out, then went downhill the more time passed.

No way. CC got hated on the moment it came out, and still is regarded all too well. It's a very mixed game, and I think people have confused the love for Zack as love for Crisis Core, which is a mistake here.

By the majority of people? No. By a significant amount of people who played it? Absolutely. I see very few people talk positively about Crisis Core, that's always been the case. I'd also be willing to bet far more people count FFXII among their favorite games than Crisis Core. FFXII is certainly bearable, but CC isn't the game to do it, unless FFXII has really gone through a collapse in popularity from where it was before.
