To be fair, I didn't hype it to get into the contest or to have real strength...so nobody can use HHF against Epona in CB9. Nobody...!


Man, this poll sucks, but it's about expected. Braid might do better with the ASV since it's mostly known for the 360. Tim went down with the ASV the one match he was in, but that was with Sora and Fox in the poll (plus Chris Redfield), so it's hard to not lose percentage there.

I think different series' ASVs tend to pick up at different times. Nintendo has historically started its ASV right around 3, Halo around 2:30, and KH seems to pick up gradually and not get into full force until later in the ASV.

Closer to mid-60s (if not even worse), imo. GoW lost to Shadow of the Colossus without putting up any sort of fight, and it should be stronger than Gears 2. At least Gears 1 was a huge, system-selling 360 game for a while. Gears 2 came and went while being completely overshadowed by a handful of games.

I honestly don't think Portal would beat SotC by a whole lot. RE4 and KH2 got less than 65% on it, and they'd put up a good number on Portal. MGS4 got 63.50% on it last time.

I know people expect Portal to be stronger this time, but still.

RE4 and KH2 did put up 70% on Gears though, so who knows.

Question: Since when has Portal had it's strength? I mean, before the contest I thought Deus Ex and Portal had about the same strength until I saw KP's topic and the polls from 2009, but how did that game manage to become as strong as it is now?

Also, I think you guys are underestimating Gears big time. Sure, it's weaker than Halo, but it's still extremely popular. I know this match will be the exception to the Console game >>>>> PC game rule, but I really think it will end up below the 60% margin.

Portal was absolutely loved on the internet (including this site) and is pretty much an internet jewel. It's always been strong, plus it was recently sold for a few days/week for 1 cent and heavily advertised. Don't see it having much of a problem with anyone in this bracket other than RE4, of course.

When I was in school, we got let out at 2:10, and I got home around 2:30.

I got out at 2:20 and got home around 3:00, because the school is normally about a 20 minute drive from my house since I live in a puny town that does not have its own school district and needs to be served by the school district of another town. Since the school bus has to make frequent stops, it takes longer to get home than the 20 minutes it would have taken if I drove myself home from school.

Analysis

There has been a lot of talk for the second round in this four-pack, but not so much in this match; I almost forgot what game Portal was going up against. People have been hyping that Portal may have boosted since we last saw it with it being free on Steam and everything. This isn’t exactly the best match to see whether or not this is true since we don’t have much on Gears of War 2.

What we do have is the GotY poll where it didn’t do as well as the original game did and the vote-in where it won, but at the same time it was probably the weakest vote-in in terms of strong games. I do feel that the original game will be the stronger of the two and given what Gears of War did in the previous contest that can’t mean good things for the sequel.

Since we don’t know anything about Gears of War II there isn’t really a percent that Portal needs to go for it to have a chance at winning next round. However if it fails to break 60% I would start building its coffin. Valve games haven’t exactly looked as good as some people have been hyping, but if there’s one game that could change that trend it would be Portal.

Valve has been trying really hard to appeal to gamers so people think Valve games are stronger. As for Portal it being free on Steam and getting downloaded 1.5-2 million times is reason for boost.
