I've
always found it kind of strange that Melee has a better ASV than Brawl
despite being the older game. The best explanation I can think of is
that Melee is fueled primarily by Gamecube fans, who stuck by Nintendo
in bad times and are primarily younger, while Brawl draws more from the
non-Nintendo fanbase, which trends older. --- Nominate Crono so he can get a higher seed and avoid being fed to Clinkeroth early in the contest. |

Mid Tier: A newer BioWare game (e.g. KotOR, Mass Effect) KOTOR's ASV is better than you make it seem like. KOTOR's trends are just like those of Halo, with the exception of the board vote. KOTOR got a good board vote in its match a few days ago, while Halo sucks with it. After the board vote, KOTOR and Halo have identical trends. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as Dr_Football, Guru Champ! |

So
a topic or two ago people were arguing about whether Cloud was stronger
than Sephiroth in 2002. If Sephiroth actually was stronger in 2002,
then does this mean Mega Man would have been stronger than Cloud? After
all, if Sephiroth was the #2 guy that year and Mega Man managed 49.5%
against him and only lost by a thousand votes, then Cloud has almost no
room to be weaker than Sephiroth and still be stronger than Mega Man.
And regardless Mega Man would pretty clearly be stronger, indirectly at
least, than Mario. A little odd, but I guess plausible. In 2003, Mega
Man did hold up slightly better against Sephiroth than Mario did. But if Cloud is 48% or worse on Sephiroth, then Cloud vs. Samus, or by extension Cloud vs. Sonic, would be projected to be a very close match. I find it extremely strange that pre-Metroid Prime/Fusion Samus would be indirectly stronger than Mario, although I guess it's already really strange that she beat Sonic and got 47.5% on Sephiroth in the first place. So setting Sephiroth as really stronger than Cloud in 2002 seems to me like it causes a lot of problems. If it's accurate regardless, it's safe to say Mario beating Cloud wasn't the only bizarre thing that happened there. Maybe it was because it was the first contest or whatever, but lol2002. |
LeonhartFour | Posted 11/8/2010 4:21:19 PM | message detail |
Well, we saw Sephiroth/Mega Man go from a 50/50 match to a 60/40 match in the span of a year, so yeah, 2002 was a weird year. http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=995 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1366 There were 26835 more votes cast in the rematch. Guess how many of them Mega Man got? 28. Less than 1 percent. So maybe Mario getting 75% of these extra votes isn't so out there after all! --- "Why must we always choose between certain death and probable death?" Cloud/Seph
were very close back in the olden days. They faced off in the 2003
finals and Seph broke 48%, a feat he'd never achieve today. Of course,
some argue that Seph overperformed because Link fans anti-voted Cloud,
but I'm not sure about that. Either way, they were much closer to
rivals in 2002-2003, whereas Seph simply occupies his rung on the SFF
ladder these days. --- Yoblazer: http://i32.tinypic.com/zlf1w7.gif Watch and you'll see... some day I'll be... part of your world! |

wonder what's the percentage of people who would actually want to
revenge vote, and what's the percentage of people who would vote for
the character that beat their favorite, to avoid having more characters
"beat" their favorite. --- Nominate Crono so he can get a higher seed and avoid being fed to Clinkeroth early in the contest. |

Match XLI: (1) Resident Evil 4 vs. (16) Jet Grind Radio Information Name: Resident Evil 4 Year: 2005 Previous Performance: SpC2k9 – 4th in round 4 Name: Jet Grind Radio Year: 2000 Previous Performance: N/A Analysis This division has a lot of debatable matches in it including two debatable four-packs; sadly this one isn’t one of them. I thought Jet Grind Radio was the only Dreamcast game without a rerelease in the contest, but after checking it apparently came out on the Gameboy Advance, it’s just that almost no one played it or even talked about it. Resident Evil 4 has its eyes set for the quarter-finals and while it is unlikely that it’ll win that match it should have no problem getting there. We all know that even the top tier Dreamcast games are all weak so imagine a game that is clearly below all of them. There only have been two polls about Jet Grind Radio in the past, the first was which Dreamcast game do you want to see on the 360/PS3 and while the game is clearly above random junk it did lose handily to the more popular games. The other poll was the vote-in where is barely made it in the contest winning over SFF Nintendo games and random RPGs. As one of the strongest games in the bracket Resident Evil 4 should be pulling for 80% here. Twilight Princess was almost able to break 80% on Shenmue so it isn’t exactly a stretch to believe that Resident Evil 4 can pull off the same performance. Some people are expecting that this will be the blowout of the contest, but I don’t think Resident Evil 4 has the power to win by more than Melee did. charmander6000’s Bracket: Resident Evil 4 > Jet Grind Radio charmander6000’s Prediction: Resident Evil 4 wins, 82.37% - 17.63% --- BOP Results: http://charmander6000.webs.com/GotD%20BOP.xls GotD Bracket: 33/38 Today's Matches: Civ IV & FFIX |

People
hated Sephiroth back in 2002, almost as much as they do now, and I
still stand by that WDF was Mega Man and Samus getting anti-votes
against him. I think he was probably Number 2 (Cloud barely beat him
after having the benefit of a larger role in KH), but that's the only
explanation for WDF that made sense to me. I know some people think
that he overperformed against Link, but I've never seen an explanation
as to why other than that people thought Link was too dominant, which
seems silly to me, as all he'd done up to that point in the contest was
blow out some characters no one thought too much of anyway. He was the
big favorite to win by the time the match with Sephy rolled around, but
Sephy was hated on the board at the time, and I never saw any movement
on the board to support him in that match. No one really cared that
Link was winning, and it's not like we knew how close the match was
going to be anyway. --- "Ahem! There is *sand* on my *boot*!"--Kefka Dr. Football beat me, Yesmar in the 2010 Guru Contest! |

but Sephy was hated on the board at the time, and I never saw any movement on the board to support him in that match. Sephiroth defintely had a large support group on the board back then. They were the group opposing the "Hylian Knights" that supported Link. I'm not sure if Cloud had a large support group on the board as well or not. --- "Let me believe what you've always believed! decide which matches were flukes. I have my opinion right now, but
there's just no overwhelming evidence for any theory. Question for you guys: How well do you think Crisis Core would have done if it was in Dissidia's place against MW2? --- "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. So...what is a party?" "Well, you drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think." |

I
don't think RE4 is equipped to dish out 80%+ blowouts like most people
are thinking. FFX already bombed against Viewtiful Joe. While Viewtiful
Joe is stronger than Jet Grind Radio, I don't think it would get more
than 60% on it. Added to the fact that RE4 is going to definitely be
weaker than FFX and I don't see RE4 breaking 80%, but high 70s are
possible. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as Dr_Football, Guru Champ! |

Dead Rising... How many X-Box action games do good during the night,
