Again,
people being completely ridiculous. FFX is an underdog to Melee (or
Brawl, wherever you stand) but beyond that I'm fairly confident its
fine. --- :> |

Doesn't
look like FFX is going to reach 78% here, because FFX has a lower
percentage in Europe than the overall result right now. This is
important because the night vote is heavily driven by Europe's
influence. FFX will still go up overnight because of Asia and Oceania,
but not by a whole lot as they combine for about 16% of the total votes
during their best hours. Europe would be hogging up about 49-50% of the
votes during its best hour, plus it has like 2 other hours where it
takes up over 40% of the votes. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as Dr_Football, Guru Champ! |

I
don't think Viewtiful Joe is getting the credit it probably deserves
here, but FFX certainly doesn't look impressive here. Then again, this
is the game that let FFTA get 33% on it, so I dunno how much this match
even matters in the grand scheme. --- The whole object of travel is not to set foot on foreign land; it is at last to set foot on one's own country as a foreign land. |

FFX now finally has a higher percentage in Europe than the rest of the world. Still, this is a pathetic showing from FFX, especially after KH1 and 2 both obliterated their much stronger opponents. So it's not even a general case of Square failing, it's just FFX, which makes no sense at all. --- A pro isn't someone who sacrifices himself for his job. Match XXXIV: (8) Tales of Vesperia vs. (9) Borderlands Information Name: Tales of Vesperia Year: 2008 Previous Performance: N/A Name: Borderlands Year: 2009 Previous Performance: N/A Analysis When I made my bracket I thought Borderlands was easily going to win. Maybe it was my unreasonable hatred of the Tales series. GameFAQs has made me try several new games, but at the same time it has also put me off on others. Vesperia is often considered to be the second strongest game of the series, but that isn’t saying much. One of the main reason people think Vesperia is going to be very weak is the performance of Yuri Lowell from the last character battle. Characters don’t equal games was created for a reason, Tales of Symphonia is much stronger than its characters for example. Taking a quick look at the board and it seems that Vesperia doesn’t suffer from ensemble syndrome as badly as Symphonia. While there is a fan favourite Yuri is generally well liked, usually in the top 3 in favourite characters. It also helps that Lloyd and Kratos are borderline fodder compare to Yuri who is fodder. The more I think of it the more I feel that Borderland may be one of those games that is popular for the year it came out and then becomes largely forgotten, but then you look and see that Borderland still got a decent seed compare to other 2009 games. Then again the games it finished around in the last GotY, minus Modern Warfare 2 were all able to get 3-5 seeds so maybe it is true, but it hasn’t been totally forgotten yet. While we have little information on the 2009 games if Borderlands is still just slightly weaker than Dragon Age it should be able to cruise over Vesperia, however like I said it probably isn’t, but that’s okay since it has a large gap to work with. Vesperia does have a chance though it is only a small chance. charmander6000’s Bracket: Borderlands > Tales of Vesperia charmander6000’s Prediction: Borderlands wins, 58.15% - 41.85% --- BOP Results: http://charmander6000.webs.com/GotD%20BOP.xls GotD Bracket: 27/32 Today's Matches: FFX & Borderlands |

I
wouldn't be surprised if FFX had ended up overrated due to the lol4ways
factor, actually. Doesn't the game have a fairly zealous fanbase within
its wider casual appeal? That'd mean it'd fare better in 4ways
(retaining that core portion of voters no matter what), and looks less
good in 1v1s. --- Placeholder anti-capslock sig. |

Actually,
this just reminds me of Cloud/Ridley last year, and everybody building
up hope that it'll get upset in the semi-finals. It could probably make
it to the finals, but beating Brawl/Melee? Hahahaha, you're funny. Plus, we REALLY don't need to see Smash vs G/S/C --- "You brought your *****, to the waffle hut?" |
KanzarisKelshen | Posted 11/5/2010 6:04:58 AM | message detail |
The
difference is that VJ has no reason to overperform beyond its picture.
Ridley had Brawl, he had a good pic too, AND he was up against Cloud
"drop the pants down for the Power Hour" Strife. Final Fantasy is not
universally derided now, the games didn't weaken due to anything but
getting older, and it's likely FFX was never THAT good in the first
place, which would explain everything much more nicely than a bizarre
overperformance. --- Placeholder anti-capslock sig. |

Yeah,
I'm pretty disappointed FFX couldn't do better than this, but when
"vote-in stats" project Melee to double FFX, you know there's a problem
somewhere. This match doesn't mean too awful much in the grand scheme
of things. We've already seen FFX is still capable of getting 45%+ on
Melee even with KH1 in the poll, so I'm not sure what the hullabaloo is
all about. Also, Viewtiful Joe > Shenmue, for whoever was asking. FFX tripled that thing back when it was stronger then than it is now. Great vote totals today, too. We might end up with the highest night match vote total of the contest so far. It's on pace to get there, at least.
