The 2003 GBA polls also have GS:TLA sequel outperforming R/S/E. there's not much take from either polls probably.

That was also at a time when Pokemon was hated, not to mention all of the SFF/LFF going on.

That's why I added that it's probably not worth much there, but it was interesting to look through for something.

Which is... another reason to toss those polls out? We've seen enough instances of opinions radically changing a few short years after GotY polls to know dabbling in them is always dubious.

Both those assumptions are plausible, but Golden Sun will have the day match advantage and a launch game. It's the big favorite now, that's for sure.

I think GTA is going to have the stronger ASV trends, personally.

Golden Sun is more night-orientated than day orientated. Europe loves it for some reason.

That GBA 2003 GOTY poll was pretty RPG stacked. That's interesting. I think RSE lost back then because Pokemon was still not well-liked at that time. But who knows?

Mother 3's score seemed kinda natural to me, for some reason. Well, our perspectives are all different, now aren't they?

Well R&C have never looked good in polls, its best performance was that one win over Uncharted 1. You could also look at as it takes 8 games to give Ratchet his strength and he still may lose to Isaac.

Not to take anything away from GS though.

Whoa, someone banked 56,000 points. It almost makes me want to not bank on Fire Emblem/Tony Hawk, but I think I'll stick to cashing in 10,500 there. Gonna go for a big run of 30+ in the later rounds.

P3 does pretty well in Asia, but the difference between the world vote and Europe's vote is almost nonexistent, and the vote percentage from NA actually goes down. Civ, on the other hand...

... shows a decent spike in percentage in Europe, an equal vote in Asia, as well as a slight dip in NA.

If this were a day match, I think P3 would be the arguable winner of the match. But being a night vote (considering how PC-centric Europe tends to be), and considering it's Civ4 we're looking at (arguably the best installment in the franchise), I think it's going to boil down to whether or not there's going to be a significant lead put forth by P3 in the first three hours of the match.

this doesn't surprise me too much. when I asked what was stronger between RSE and Golden Sun the other day, I was being honest. GS is just weird on this website.

All right, so Civ4 is apparently supposed to be night oriented and has the advantage going into its match...come on, don't blow it! I don't even think Persona 3 is supposed to be that good with the board vote...wait, this board likes Civ4, right?

I have Civ4 losing in my bracket, I just really want it to win because...well, it's not a HUGE favorite of mine like with ZFS, but my god, such a great game and I really shudder when it gets ignored.

The top performers did worse than the mid tiers this time. I didn't really expect that. The perfects nearly get wiped out on this match. It certainly is a difficult task to stay perfect after 34 matches, but Pluto_70 managed to pull it off. The -1s and -2s do a fair bit better and manage to stay above 50 but you only need to go down to the -3s before they hit 60 and the -8s to -12s managed to even go above 70. The gurus looked good again with 81.18% of the participants backing Borderlands.

18 people fell off the top 50 today. thesupermuffin, DarkDuckMan, darkturkish5, ArmedRebellion, BFS_Phat_T, jeffb87, Zombie_Pwner, PierreDevereaux, Hittman57, andyocon, Jigpuff, Broken91, Ace_0f_Spades, OmegaHomer, AndrewCEnright, AceCannon, mister_flare and Zico_ did not have Borderlands beating Tales of Vesperia.

8 people got it wrong and survived. Former first place airblade369, former second place Teh_Ronin, former third place chris60050, chriscam23, Gandoclaus, herooftime9, BRye926 and Alternative_1 also did not have Borderlands beating Tales of Vesperia. These were the 8 people in the Top 10 that got the match wrong.

I'm starting to favor Persona. Civ is Western, and I just picture a jRPG as cult as Persona winning the night vote there. Plus, RPGs have looked very good so far. I think the only truly disappointing RPG performance so far (depending on whether or not you count FFX and DPP) has been Demon's Souls. Almost all the others have either met or exceeded expectations.

I'm still leaning towards Civ on this one. To me, it looks like general reputation has been a big factor in how well a game does. Civilization is widely known as an excellent franchise, whereas Persona is very cult.

Well, Deus Ex is widely considered to be one of the best games of the decade, yet it's going to be glorified fodder once this is all said and done. To be fair, Civilization may be a bigger name, but Civ4 could just as well fall into the No Mercy/RB2/GH2 trap with GameFAQs users not really considering it a real game. Then again that probably doesn't make sense, since Civ4 is a strategy game, but I doubt we've seen a turn-based non-RPG strategy game in this except for Civ1, which was crushed last year (though okay it overperformed and beat Castlevania III when no one was expecting it too...does it repeat that in a 1vs1? WHO KNOWS?).

...Why wouldn't Civ4 be considered a real game? Civ is actually pretty hardcore as far as franchises go.

As an exception to JRPGs doing well, I think Tales of Symphonia bombed, personally.

Yeah that was probably a very good question. Perhaps a lot of GameFAQs users would see it and say "oh, it's just a historical simulator", and anti-vote it just like they did with the sports/music games?

Then again Civ4 has a hardcore fanbase. Music and sports games really don't; I mean, Rock Band 2 is well known for being THE offline multiplayer game these days and Guitar Hero II is also revered in that respect, but...Civ4, then again, is known for being THE strategy game of the decade (though to be fair its only real competition there has been what, Warcraft III, Rome: Total War, and Company of Heroes? Yeah), and it has that hardcore fanbase who will not only engage in the game's online multiplayer but will also take turns playing a singleplayer game by themselves, tossing the game to each other after a set number of turns. Not to mention the guys who play different games on the same map to see who is the best Civ player...that's far more than stuff like No Mercy, RB2, and GH2 can say, really.

Dubious, especially as they're published by the same company in America. I mean it would wipe the floor with them in EUROPE, but overall I don't think so.

I have P3 > Civ IV and have always been fairly confident about it. It's one of most well received RPGs of the past few years versus arguably the most respected PC-exclusive turn-based strategy game. That immediately makes me need evidence Civilization IV is actually cared about at all on this site. Back in '04 - the only time it's ever been in a poll - it just about beat Age of Empires III and lost to Guild Wars (woah, it's been nearly seven years since AoE3?). The series itself managed to avoid getting doubled by BioShock and tripled by GTA in one of those company's best series polls. The original Civ could only pull 22.7% on Street Fighter II in '09, and I don't need to mention what Persona did in a poll with a Street Fighter game to make the comparison (before I get shouted at, I realise Civ IV > Civ and SFII > SFIV).

It could certainly turn out that Civ IV has just grown and grown in players and respect levels over the years, making it the favourite amongst the GameFAQs neutral... but seeing how well niche RPGs have been holding up, I wouldn't bet on it.

Did some double-checking, and I have Civ 4 in my bracket and Persona 3 in my battle.

Think I'll stick with Persona 3 here considering the Persona series is only mere fodder instead of the turbo-fodder the Civ series is here.
