Analysis

This match has been getting a lot of hype lately which has been stopped by people pulling out the GotY poll. While I agree that the match shouldn’t by hyped the GotY poll is pretty useless and shouldn’t be used unless you think Modern Warfare 2 is going to totally crush Dissidia. Dissidia is our first PSP game to be in the contest and is one of the strongest games on the system so it’ll be interesting to see what it does.

During that GotY poll people were still high on Modern Warfare 2, but since then the game has had time to settle and while there are some haters I feel that the group is small and in reality Modern Warfare 2 is still overall liked, just not the Game of the Decade feeling people were giving it. Call of Duty 4 wasn’t exactly that impressive earlier this round, but it was against an unknown game and personally I wouldn’t be surprised if Sands of Time had decent strength.

According to supporters one of the biggest advantages to Dissidia is that the game has Final Fantasy characters in it. While that may score a few apathy votes which may be helpful here since Modern Warfare 2 probably have little overlap with the Final Fantasy fanbase it shouldn’t be that helpful. Voters aren’t stupid they know what Dissidia is and know the reception that the game got. If that wasn’t the case then everything from the same series would have roughly the same strength. When all is said and done a name can get your foot in the door, but the game will ultimately be the deciding factor.

It feels weird taking a FPS over something Final Fantasy related on GameFAQs, yet here we are. While Dissidia could buck the trend of handhelds not having much strength it is from the PSP which I have no faith in. Dissidia should easily put up a much better performance than what it did during the GotY, but at the same time Modern Warfare 2 should have an easy time winning.

Also just to make a statement, the GBA games in this contest have so far went 3 for 3 in outperforming expectations (though to be fair none of them had such good expectations in the first place, except for maybe RSE pre-contest).

Crisis Core should be stronger than Dissidia. Its a FFVII spin off and it was somewhat decent. Dissidia sucks tbh and deserves to lose I just wish it wasn't a FPS game beating it.
