I meant the SNV in 2005 and before. Of course I know that the real reason the SNV was strong back then was because the poll ended at 3 AM, but that doesn't stop wishful thinking. Besides, I think the SNV actually had some power back in 2002-3 with a 1 AM start time. It'll probably never make a comeback as long as the start time is midnight eastern. And the SNV, to me at least, starts at 11, which is when trends really shift into a night pattern. The 8-11 period is just a slow transitional phase.

As much as I will rep the EST, in 24 hour format I liked the 3 AM EST (midnight pacific) start time MUCH better because the trends made for more interesting matches. Trends got really boring with midnight EST start.

Thankfully, these 12 hour polls got around that pretty well!

Despite living on the East Coast, I much prefer Pacific Time. The best thing individually for me would be to live on the West Coast and have the contests start at 3 AM Eastern. Of course that is horrible for everyone on the Eastern or Central time.

You may be right that the ASV as a whole is getting weaker though, Luster. It's hard to tell though as we've seen a total of 1 proper ASV (in a 24-hour match, since trends are different in 12-hour) since June 2009. That was Link/Mario, a match in which we wouldn't expect a huge shift in the ASV.

I think the ASV was pretty weak in 2009 as well. Here's another comparison, but for Poll 3864 and match from 2009:

I thought about using Poll 3498 as a comparison instead, but that poll was on 5/29/2010 and the ASV in that poll was weak due to the school year coming to an end in some places. I wanted to use Poll 3498 as a comparison, since the final vote total was 129046 (very close to that of the 2010 age poll). In 2009, it seems like the ASV was weaker than the ASV in 2008, but still slightly better than the ASV in 2010.

Analysis

For a long time I’ve been curious as to how well a game from the F-Zero series would perform on GameFAQs. Any poll related to the series that we’ve had so far also had a Nintendo game so really we know almost nothing about the games and while I would be shocked if it pull the upset I can see the game impressing.

I wouldn’t be surprised if F-Zero GX has most of its strength from Captain Falcon being in the Smash series. While players may not be actively looking to play an F-Zero game they are aware where Captain Falcon is from and him being in the middle of the picture helps. It also helps that the game is up against something that has no relation to Nintendo giving F-Zero GX the opportunity to pick up a load of apathy votes.

Dragon Age performed quite well in the GotY polls and has been kept sort of relevant with the release of a bunch of expansion packs and the announcement for Dragon Age II coming out next year. Like Uncharted 2 I don’t see games from 2009 impressing that much since 2009 was a relatively weak year for gaming meaning Dragon Age almost winning GotY doesn’t mean as much.

I feel that F-Zero GX has the potential to expose Dragon Age in this match and to show the world that it too has some hidden strength as long as it’s far away from anything Nintendo related, though at the same time I don’t see the game being any more than high fodder and even then that’s being very generous. I expect it to be almost a repeat of the Uncharted 2/Legend of Dragoon match.

In all seriousness though F-Zero GX could break 40% and it wouldn't floor me, because it would just be another case of 'lol 2009 games'. Heck, between GTAIV, Galaxy, and Call of Duty 4, it might just be a general 'lol current-gen games'. Watch out, TP's gonna fail to break 70% on Shenmue!

Uncharted 2 got 57.4% on LoD, which beat MKDS in the vote-ins, which would likely give F-Zero GX a fine thrashing. DA:O shouldn't be much weaker considering the GotY-polls earlier this year.

This looks fine to me, and I'd rather take a 3-way over a 10-way in terms of legitimacy. Heck, based on the impressive jump DA made between polls, it may have managed a win over Uncharted 2 in a 1v1, and Uncharted 2 just easily beat a jRPG that would probably blast F-Zero.
