Well, it also happens a lot when Board 8 isn't sure who will win. A lot of people started picking Squall, and so the rest who weren't sure flocked to it.

Looking at past matches, I'm actually surprised Auron had as many supporters as he did.

Analysis

Super Mario Galaxy was one of the biggest flops in the last contest and while there is some debate as to whether or not the game will rebound Galaxy’s path is pretty much set in stone unless it wants to flop even harder next round. This match won’t tell us much, but at least Galaxy will get a huge blowout in this contest.

Beyond Good & Evil is probably one of the weakest games in the bracket, its main character Jade was tripled by Ada Wong in 2006. Even in the vote-in the game finished far behind games like Left 4 Dead 2, Phoenix Wright 3 and TimeSplitters 2. Even though a sequel has been announced very few people seem to care about it which makes the game look even worse.

Everyone from Super Mario Galaxy’s four-pack has underperformed by the board’s expectation which doesn’t mean good things for the game, interestingly enough all three games did survive the round. Still I would be shocked if the game fails to break 70% in this match and I would start fearing for its survival next round. Also Happy Halloween.

Which ones make you think that? I remember their past performances suggesting they were pretty close and their actually match was pretty close.

So, we know we can't really fairly compare these two SSB-performances against each other...but what kind of expectations does this set for FFX now? GH2 beat Viewtiful Joe in the vote-ins and I'd take MKDS over it pretty comfortably, though there's no room for SFF in FFX/VJ either.

I wouldn't expect Final Fantasy to be able to get as big a blowout as Smash, because it's not as universally liked- there's a sizable group here that doesn't like FF. Melee should be safe for blowout of the contest. Then again, CATS predicted Link/Cloud remarkably accurately, so maybe FFX can pull off a huge blowout.

I still say Majora's Mask has a shot for blowout of the contest. It's Zelda and it's quality, and Wii Sports is the catalyst for why Wii scores 5% in console of the year polls now.

I'm not sure that Wii Sports loses to Guitar Hero II. The site sees them both as super-casual games, and a lot of people liked Wii Sports a little before it became the symbol of Nintendo's decision to turn away from gamers.

Yeah, LoZ:MM's got a shot to beat what SSBM did on GH2...but I don't think it'll do it. Wii Sports got 10.62% on LoZ:TP in the old GotY-poll, and LoZ:MM's gonna be both weaker and two generations apart from WS. Throw in any remaining LoZ:MM anti-voters and that WS beat GH2 in the vote-ins anyway, and it will probably beat GH2's 12.84% on SSBM when it faces LoZ:MM.

Oh, I definitely figured Galaxy will do MUCH better on TP in this contest than previous stats show. It was way too risky as an actual upset pick, but I think it'll break 40% with ease. And yes, I realize it didn't even hit 30% on Brawl. I REALIZE IT.

So close to perfect but not enough. We still lose one of the 27 remaining perfects on this match. We also lose about 10 -1 brackets. I expected a bit better for such an easy match this far into the contest.

Only 1 person fell off the Top 50 today. MMAKSX was the one perfect who did not have SSBB beating Mario Kart DS.
