Woohoo, another close match, and this time it is actually an important match to me

I've got a nice long streak going in the battle contest, and Warcraft III was also my pick in the Last User Standing contest

So if it doesn't win I'll be a bit disappointed

Valkyrie/Disgaea and Pokemon/GTA IV are stumping me atm...

The entire reason I'm banking on WWF/No Mercy is because there's 3 questionable matches in that area, and so I'm not sure how much it's worth playing the odds on all of them. If it was just one, it's a justifiable risk to not bank in the hopes of getting a much longer streak. If it were just WWF/PoR, I'd strongly consider not banking. But then VC/Disgaea is the very next match. So really instead of trying to pick sides on multiple matches right next to each other, I figure I'll just bank on the first one and start a new streak with the other matches where getting them wrong would be pretty trivial. I mean, if I had to pick on those matches, I'd go PoR, Disgaea, and Pokemon, but with them all in the same spot it basically comes down to asking myself "Is it really worth the risk of trying to guess all 3 right?"

Of course, if I end up getting them all right, I'll look back and be a little annoyed I banked early, but eh. I'm probably taking the Battle Challenge a bit too conservatively to win, but oh well.

Lately I've been feeling that Melee's going to win this.... I mean, look at the leaderboard. All the Smash picks are Melee.

It probably doesn't mean much in terms of who is going to win, but it's really really surprising to me that there is not a single Brawl pick in the top 50. Brawl is the favorite to win on this board.

If you assume sitewide it has only 10% of brackets taking it to win, the probability of having no picks in the top 50 is half of 1%. If you assume Brawl has sitewide 25% of brackets (think it has somewhat more than that in the Guru), the probability of having no Brawl picks in the top 50 becomes about 1 in 2 million. That's all assuming there's no correlation between skill and having a top 50 bracket right now (there clearly is a positive one).

Lately I've been thinking that Melee wins with 60%+.....it's a conundrum for the Oracle, because I think it's likely to be a blowout (Ulti-style), but actually predicting one is hugely risky.

WC3's votes keep dipping, and each time they do, Morrowind's lead grows a little more. I'm hoping the next ASV wave favors warcraft. We got another hour and a half before west coast ASV hits.

Yeah. My idea was that if all the picks on the leaderboard have Melee, then Melee is probably the favorite by the bracket-makers in general. Then, if Melee is the favorite....that is, by a BIG margin, then common sense tells me it's because Melee is just more liked. There's the whole correlation of popularity compared to expectations; within the same fanbase, the correlation is even stronger. Of course, Link beat Mario despite Mario having better "odds" of winning SC2K2....

If Melee's the favorite by the casuals, it's probably not by much, though, anyway.

I've been an anti-fan of Warcraft III ever since it preempted Starcraft II matches at Blizzcon.

And then you couldn't watch Starcraft 2 until hours after the WC3 matches ended because Blizzard couldn't stream properly.

It's not like WC3 was cutting into your Starcraft 2 time.
