I can't believe people thought God of War was gonna do poorly against Left 4 Dead. GoW sweeping past ToS confirmed in my book.

Agreed. Completely agreed. I messed up the RE5 match but I'm now very confident God of War will go through the 3rd round. RE5 was confirmed to be much stronger than RE5 in polls. And the match proved RE5 wasn't that weak and ToS wasn't that strong. It's easier to look good in a poll with multiple choices than in head-to-head matchups.

purely console gamers will probably vote Morrowind. RPG gamers will prefer Morrowind too. that's the majority of this site. I agree that WC3 should be the fave but a lot has changed since 2002, especially in regards to the xbox.

I picked WC3 because of this poll...but really, nowadays I just can't expect WC3 to compare with Blizzard's big three and how they did in BGE2. It's not like Starcraft impressed at all, and I don't really see how WC3 could come close to it. It's hard to say if Morrowind's gonna be able to take advantage of that gap, but I feel a lot worse about WC3 than I once did.

Blizzard in general has fallen off a lot since 2004 though. Starcraft last year proved that. WC3 is probably not as strong now as it was back then.

No, I wouldn't. GameFAQs has a more rabid console fanbase.
But yeah, Starcraft is much more popular than Warcraft games. Still, Warcraft has a very big fanbase accumulated over a long time. It seems to help during this contest.

To be fair, I think BGE2 proved Starcraft was absurdly over-rated instead of Blizzard dropping. Diablo 2 did well and WoW did okay, so I dunno how much Starcraft legitimately dropped from 2004 to 2009.


Either way, I've only been able to find two comparisons for Starcraft/WC3:

--> It's right after SC2 came out, WoW's the majority of Warcraft's support, and it's a multi-way poll with Diablo also screwing up this Blizzard comparison.

--> #18 to #60...but we've seen #82 beat #37 in BGE2, plus it's THE LIST (which is now nearly five years old).

Neither one is reliable, each for a number of reasons. That said, Starcraft had been known as the absolute definitive RTS for twelve years and has only been replaced by its long-awaited sequel. WC3 just isn't going to be in that tier of Blizzard-games. Morrowind probably doesn't do that badly on Starcraft, so WC3 should have a difficult time.

it's a shame diablo II got stuck in such a bad spot, since it's a lot stronger than the other blizzard games. WC3 and wow won't be going very far. I would be surprised if WC3 won the first round.

I'm hoping the bigger name propels WC3 to victory. I don't think one of the games is seen as the much more "deserving" winner, either (think Deus Ex/Rockband), so the name might be enough.

Didn't Elder Scrolls look better in the Series Contest x-stats than Warcraft? Not that I'd want to count on those numbers (or say SMB didn't shaft WC to some degree), but I don't know what kind of name-advantage WC3 will really have.

I don't know if anyone has been talking about the Devil May Cry/Knights match, but people should be. The first game DMC will be stronger than the third game. RE was stronger than RE2. There are other examples but I'm just going to use those two games because I don't want to do more research. Everyone has played the first DMC game. It was completely new, fresh, and a great game. The PS2 is one of the biggest consoles ever, and the first DMC sold fairly well. Judging Knights based on the one or two matches it had in the other contest, it doesn't look particularly strong.

And yes, Mother 3 did better than everyone thought it would, for whatever reason.

It should be a close match.

I agree that DMC is stronger than 3, but I don't think that will matter. Carth Onasi gonna be up in this poll.

Most DMC-fans (on this board, anyway) seem to favor DMC3, which couldn't double Mother 3. Even if DMC's stronger than DMC3, we saw it lose easily to Assassin's Creed in the vote-ins...which I'm not convinced would beat SW:KotOR, so why should DMC?

WRPGs looking stronger than ever and action games looking weak (outside of this match) doesn't give me any faith in a Devil May Cry upset. The upset we SHOULD be debating is Oblivion over Wind Waker! Gotta get this train rollin'

Let's keep in mind that KotOR put up 49% on Halo (it might beat Halo in a 1v1 considering that 4way had Diablo II, which probably hurts KotOR more). Halo just beat Ninja Gaiden with 65%. DMC has to be a lot stronger than Ninja Gaiden to make this a match. A lot a lot.

Say what you want about the worth of vote-ins, I'm not convinced AC beats SW:KotOR and DMC3 failed to double a game few thought would break 20%. That may be lol vote-ins and Mother 3 being deceptively strong, but I'm banking against that until DMC proves otherwise.

I was really thinking of taking Devil May Cry there but there looks to be no reason to now. let's see how Morrowind does first before anointing KOTOR, but even then it's hard to have any faith in DMC.

Wind Waker was getting SFF'd by Melee the entire contest and still managed to beat Halo. And unlike with Sunshine, the Wind Waker hate is pretty much nonexistent now. I think it would have shocked some people last contest if it wasn't stuck with Melee.
