To be far, SO3 was only published by Square, not developed by Square, so it's not truly a Square RPG in the same sense something like Final Fantasy or TWEWY is.

And I'm not jumping on the GoW > ToS train quite yet. DMC3 sucked balls and RE5 is an unknown in a contest where Capcom games are kicking ass. Hell, I wouldn't rule out RE5 > GoW from the way this contest is going.

But yeah, let's see how GoW does against L4D first. It should serve as a good test for it.

Well, every Capcom game except for Devil May Cry 3 and its huge underperformance is kicking ass so far. Also don't be SO alarmed if God of War fails to break 60%. Left 4 Dead should not be so weak, especially considering the company the game comes from (speaking of which, how in the world is Team Fortress 2 a 4 seed while Left 4 Dead is only an 11?).

Analysis

Very little has been talked about in this match, though that may be because everyone is siding with the same game and while God of War should win it will probably underperform based on some people’s expectations since for whatever reason some people don’t give Left 4 Dead the respect it deserves.

A quick glance at last contest and we had God of War shockingly losing to Tales of Symphonia in a tight match though when everything was said and done the game ended up looking respectable. The final match of the first round was largely ignored by both the board and voters, but Left 4 Dead was able to put up some great numbers against Fallout 3 and Halo 3.

The performance of action games this contest may be cause for worry for God of War with games like Uncharted 2, Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry 3 not performing up to the board's expectations despite knowing that action games aren’t that strong. The main difference is that God of War has actually proven its strength in previous contest polls while the other games were going by our rough estimations.

Going back to the final match of the round the types of games Left 4 Dead was up against were all Xbox360 games designed to attract the same type of audience so it is possible that the game was SFF. However at the same time Left 4 Dead could do a 180 and go the way of Gears of War; personally I don’t think that will happen, but it’s good to remember that the possibility is there.

I expect God of War to take this without too much trouble, but at the same time Left 4 Dead will keep it respectable. Some people have hyped that God of War could win this division with a boost from God of War III. I don’t think it will, but this match and next round is going to be important for it.
