Well, since I'm not doing well in terms of predictions, I might as well put my analysis on State Trends. I was proven wrong about Halo 3 Vs. SMS breaking the rule. Halo 3 did do slightly above average in New England/Mid-Atlantic, although the general Ninty friendliness of the area made it better than it could have been. SMS's real key states were in the West Coast, which I probably should have seen coming, as previous polls have indicated this is the least Xbox friendly part of the country. Halo Vs. Ninja Gaiden didn't have much in the way of state trends, or at least not any that were readily apparent. If I had to guess about today's matches (without checking the current results) Metroid Prime Vs. Star Ocean 3: Prime should do best in its New England/Mid-Atlantic firewalls, which the Asia-friendly west coast should be Star Ocean's high point. SO should also do pretty well in the Mountain states/Great Plains, which seem to be pretty RPG friendly. Mother 3 Vs. Devil May Cry 3: Mother 3 being downloadable, should put it at its best in the Northeast/West Coast, although The South has been pretty receptive to old school RPGS in previous polls. Maybe they'll give it nostalgia Earthbound votes. I would guess that DMC3 does best in the Midwest. --- "Ahem! From: Solid_Mike86 | #302 You're aware it might struggle to triple Star Ocean 3 and only got 56% on Half-Life 1 six years ago, right? That was way back before Half-Life was relevant on this site. what I understand (having never played it), Star Ocean 2 was actually a
great game and the main reason why people actually care about the

Star
Ocean 3 would obliterate Star Ocean 2 in a match. Star Ocean 2 sold
like 370k in America, and Star Ocean 3 sold like 650k, plus its talked
a lot more by RPG fans than Star Ocean 2 ever was. I played both and
vastly prefer Star Ocean 3 in every way. I think a lot of people were
just turned off by the plot twist (probably best plot twist in any game
imo, but a lot of people hate it!). --- http://i56.tinypic.com/o5thna.jpg http://i51.tinypic.com/33kbvba.jpg |

I had Prime at 72% and think this is just fine. It's up against
something from a completely different genre and with the time
disadvantage on its side. It might also be not as broad in its appeal

may have been back in 2004, but SO3 looked decent in the GotY poll,

well. From: Kotetsu534 | #317 ...Uh, what if LoD is, you know, not weak at all? I might be overrating Uncharted 2 here, but 40% against that cannot be bad. Hell, it did awesome in the vote-in poll even if it didn't have that much competition. Anyway I think we're all being far too hard on Star Ocean. Hell, I think people are slightly biased against its strength because it's a non-major RPG. Honestly I think Star Ocean has some firm strength on the site based off of this and the series contest. seems to be Metroid Prime's pattern: start the match really strong,

From: FFI3_Lightning | #334 Probably one of the toughest first round picks in the contest. Warcraft has the Warcraft brand and the rallying advantage in a close match (which really saved TF2's ass in its match, so it's not to be underestimated), while Morrowind has grown a lot since those early polls that had it losing, having Oblivion be a big hit that introduced people to Morrowind by extension. Doesn't hurt that hardcore fans generally prefer Morrowind over Oblivion (though that's more a Fallout 2/3 scenario than a Melee/Brawl scenario). Warcraft III has the advantage with the bigger name and rallying potential, but Morrowind has every reason to impress as well. I don't think the match itself will be that close, though. --- Wylvane Applekidjosh is a horrible user. |

From: Not_Wylvane | #337 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3466 On second look, Morrowind got 27.26% on FFX and 38.20% on MGS2. Thinking I'll switch my battle pick to Warcraft III after all. Too bad we have nothing on WC3 since 2002, so we have no clue whether it aged well here or not. Really hesitant to use WoW as a base considering it's a whole different game. Maybe I'll use Starcraft as a comparison instead. Starcraft for the record got 38.84% on FF8 in R1 (R2 had FF8 LFFed with FF9) and 25.20% on OoT. Considering FFX got an average of 35.76% on OoT for the two rounds it faced it and wasn't SFFed, quick x-stats suggest Morrowind getting around 20% on OoT. Warcraft III will be weaker than Starcraft, of course, but considering they came out around the same time and Warcraft III was still a rather popular RTS at the time, I think WC3 is looking better and better. But who knows, maybe WC3 support dropped like a rock thanks to WoW. It really is a tough match. --- Wylvane ctesjbuvf is a horrible user. |

From: Kotetsu534 | #333 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1872 Fairly old poll, but MGS3 just doubled. Hell, Pokemon could only manage a doubling. There's not much I think it could actually beat, but I think games like Star Ocean generally do well against stronger opponents because they have a firm, more dedicated fanbase. --- Something something something ^Poorly disguised anti-caps sig |

As
far as Warcraft III/Morrowind goes, that's a day match, meaning that
it's Blizzard's awful ASV versus the Elder Scrolls series' powerful
one, right? Also I doubt that this site really cares about PC-only
strategy games aside from StarCraft, and that's because SC has had so
much influence. Also right now I'm wishing I picked Melee > Brawl, Kingdom Hearts > Twilight Princess, and Metal Gear Solid 3 > Metal Gear Solid 4. I think those new games will fall off for whatever reason. --- I have no idea how Metroid: Other M got any scores lower than 60%. |

Even
if Star Ocean is stronger than inFamous, Metroid Prime certainly
doesn't look like it's capable of taking out Fallout 3. Star Ocean
would have to be able to crush inFamous hard for MP to have a shot. Not that anyone is giving it a shot anyway, and this isn't a horrible performance for MP considering what we expect of it, but it's just more reason for it not to be the favorite to win its division, even if its competition is weak. --- Wylvane WVI is a horrible user. |

is probably just a little stronger than last year showed, and that's
it. Who knows whether that entails being able to defeat Half-Life 2/God

Match X: (8) Mother 3 vs. (9) Devil May Cry 3 Information Name: Mother 3 Year: 2006 Previous Performance: N/A Name: Devil May Cry 3 Year: 2005 Previous Performance: N/A Analysis Before seeing the match picture I never knew what Mother 3’s box art looked like. A game from the Devil May Cry series finally makes its debut, too bad we’re going to have to wait until the other game to see how they perform. Mother 3 is the only game in this contest without a North American release and while it has been imported by a lot of people a large population of GameFAQs probably doesn’t know much about the existence of the game. To get a better idea on what to expect from Mother 3 just take a look at Lucas’ performance in 2008 and the vote-in for 2010. Yes there were Nintendo options, but those guys just stole most of Lucas’ Brawl support what we’re left with is the hardcore Mother 3 fanbase and you know those guys are hardcore when they have to import their game. I don’t have much faith in the Devil May Cry games doing much this contest, but when it’s up against what should easily be the weakest game in the bracket we could potentially be seeing the blowout of the contest. I expect breaking 80% and wouldn’t be surprised if it was pushing 90%. charmander6000’s Bracket: Devil May Cry 3 > Mother 3 charmander6000’s Prediction: Devil May Cry 3 wins, 86.94% - 13.06% --- BOP Results: http://charmander6000.webs.com/GotD%20BOP.xls GotD Bracket: 6/8 Today's Matches: MP & DMC3 |
