Analysis

The second division has been hyped to be as crazy as the first, but first we have to get through the boring matches. Metroid Prime, a flop in the last contest has a chance for redemption while Star Ocean 3 fans are just happy that the game made it to the contest. Oddly enough this is our first Nintendo vs. Square match of the contest.

Anything short of a huge beating would be considered a disappointment in the eyes of the board. Metroid Prime may not be that strong, but it’s up against a game that very few people know about and there’s only so much the cult fanbase can do. Even in the vote-in it couldn’t defeat Jet Grind Radio though that match had a lot of cult RPGs. Still Metroid Prime should be pushing towards 80% in this match.

Nothing too unusual today. We're still losing a perfects in every match. It might not be too much longer before the perfects go perfect once.

4 people fell off the Top 50 today. Superlink150, blue_bomb, l_daniel and HeartlessFoder did not have Halo taking down Ninja Gaiden in the previous match.

So Prime has 80% at the freeze. It'll likely drop a little to 78%. Good show now lets get out of this boring match.

But gee I hope this doesn't translate to Prime being able to win this division, because it had better not defeat Half-Life 2. I played through Prime recently (to prepare for Other M's release), and it wasn't Game of the Decade material, though perhaps very close.

Maybe if you had Legend of Dragoon over Uncharted 2, that would have been acceptable.

Actually, no, MP would probably beat MW2 without difficulty, so no. And yes MP is still weak, 2009 just sucks.

I know it's been said, but more people had Halo 3 > Sunshine than Halo 1 > Ninja Gaiden? Either casuals remember the Ryu > Chief match or they hate Sunshine. Probably both. It's even weirder given the seedings were 7/10 vs 2/15. You would never see that in the NCAAs.

Wow AmazingKirby that is so wrong it's not even funny.

The only problems I really had with Prime were that the game was actually boring for 15-30 minutes due to backtracking during the artifact quest (versus Super Metroid which was never boring) and it had a really weak plot (which isn't so bad until you realize that story is an important component of Super Metroid's greatness).
