How long was SFIV out when it made the 2009 bracket? Like, a month or two, right? Wasn't Melee really damn weak at the start and got much, much better with age?

That's a trend with fighting games, right? I mean I love Persona 4 enough to have spirited discussions about Kanji's sexuality EVERY DAY, but P4 clearly has a solid fanbase that will love it no matter what, and the Street Fighter games develop their fanbases over time. I can't think of a single fighting game that goes against this rule, aside from MAYBE Blazblue and Brawl.

This is a significantly better argument then LOL GTA4 SFFD STREET FIGHTER

That's a great explanation, red sox. The Mario 64/Chrono Trigger matches from 2009 seem to be a clear example of console SFF/LFF/letters. Mario 64 beats CT easily despite another Mario game in the poll (weak as it may be). The next round, CT has to deal with the strongest Square RPG of all, yet it suddenly almost beats Mario 64. Why? Because we threw Goldeneye in the poll.

I would still take Legend of Dragoon over both these games fairly easily.

Ditto. These games are still fodder. I'd probably take Persona 4 > SA2 at this point.

Hey, flaming each other about our stupid picks is one of the best parts of this topic!

And it's not like Sonic looked horrible last contest, at least not as bad as 2008. Knuckles struggled with a Dissidia-boosted Cecil, Tails did well against Kratos, and Sonic did decent against Ganondorf and Kirby. Not stellar, but ****ing horrible. Granted, we never really saw SA2 in action and had no idea how it would perform.

Looks like it's pretty damn weak after all!

SA2 is beginning to stall. IV's gains are getting smaller and smaller. If SA2 can keep that up and make a few cuts, then it will be up to the ASV.
...But I see no reason why the ASV would favor a game released in a time those kids barely knew how to walk, so I'm not really hopeful here.

I'm not sure if this makes a difference but Goldeneye was made by Rare and is technically a Nintendo game.
