Common Stats Topic Lingo Defined*~ SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense. Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. See above for a watered down explanation for how the stats are calculated. Noble Nine - Link, Cloud, Solid Snake, Sephiroth, Mario, Crono, Sonic, Samus and Mega Man. --- Nominate Crono so he can get a higher seed and avoid being fed to Clinkeroth early in the contest. |

I
just checked the Jan 2010 GOTD poll. Modern Warfare 2 got.....26.95% on
FFX + Chrono Cross. 32.39% if you don't give FFX CC's votes. That's
horrible! That puts it around the level of a Galaxy being SFF'd by
Brawl. I'm not convinced SFF'd Galaxy is so far ahead of MKDS. .....I want to put Legend of Dragoon for my battle pick, even though I switched to Uncharted 2 in my bracket. Hmm.... --- Nominate Crono so he can get a higher seed and avoid being fed to Clinkeroth early in the contest. |

Match V: (3) Uncharted 2 vs. (14) The Legend of Dragoon Information Name: Uncharted 2 Year: 2009 Previous Performance: N/A Name: The Legend of Dragoon Year: 2000 Previous Performance: N/A Analysis If it wasn’t for the vote-ins I don’t think anyone would be hyping this match, but as the old saying goes with new evidence you must change your theory. While I’m one of those guys that think Uncharted 2 is going to flop based on expectations I’m also a large sceptic on Legend of Dragoon. The only thing Legend of Dragoon has to work with is the vote-in poll which it won over Mario Kart DS, a game that defeated God of War in 2005’s GotY. Let’s take the poll seriously for a moment and you can see two other Nintendo titles in the same poll that could have weakened Mario Kart DS. Yes other RPG games were also in the poll, but time and time again we see that Nintendo tends to have a lot more overlap than games sharing a genre. We also have to look at what happened after that 2005 GotY poll. After the holidays God of War took a price cut and sales shot up and presumably a jump in strength, especially based on Kratos’ jump between 2005 and 2006. So the God of War Mario Kart DS defeated may have been different than the one that we saw in 2009. Mario Kart DS also has reason to be weaker today than in 2005, most notably people were still going crazy over its release and the fact that we could verse other people over wifi. Moving over to Uncharted 2 even though the game was runner-up in the GotY it was a rather weak year in gaming and I don’t feel that any of the 2009 game will perform that well, especially if people are taking the Game of the Decade tag too seriously. Some people are trying to use the PS3 exclusive tag as a reason why it’ll be weak, but this isn’t 2008 anymore the PS3 is no longer made fun of and more importantly it is a legit console on GameFAQs. Even its ownership here isn’t that far off the Xbox360 anymore. Legend of Dragoon was a RPG game released during the RPG wave that hit the Playstation after Final Fantasy VII came. I would rank it a tier below Chrono Cross and Xenogears and while we don’t have much information on those games I feel that it doesn’t give the game much room to work with. Uncharted 2 can still lose and I wouldn’t be surprised, but at the same time I feel strangely confident that it’ll win without too much trouble. charmander6000’s Bracket: Uncharted 2 > The Legend of Dragoon charmander6000’s Prediction: Uncharted 2 wins, 58.84% - 41.16% --- BOP Results: http://charmander6000.webs.com/GotD%20BOP.xls GotD Bracket: 1/2 Today's Matches: Batman: AA & TF2 |

transients | Posted 10/21/2010 8:10:49 PM | message detail |
despite
this being hyper close, the only way Fable wins it is if it has one big
update to push it into the lead. the second it gets the lead, TF2's
gonna take it right back, so it won't be able to just hold that lead
for 2-3 updates. it'll need to just win the last update big. in other words, save your votes --- xyzzy |

Well,
it's pretty clear that the vote difference has been going in a repeated
sine wave form. The absolute minimum of the wave is just inside Fable's
favor, while the majority of the wave is in TF2 territory. Looks like the wave just peaked, and is going back down to Fable.... From: UltimaterializerX | #030 Pretty much. If Fable had even a few hundred votes over TF2, that may have been enough to stem off potential TF2 rallies since it's still been competitive all day despite TF2 getting rally votes.
