A = Strongest Character
B = Character Weaker than A
C = Character Weaker than B
To figure out a character's Xsts Percentage ---> [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
To compare how C would do against B ---> [(CvA)/(BvA)]*50 = CvB
To figure out how B would do against A ---> [(CvA)/(CvB)]*50 = BvA

~*Say What? Common Stats Topic Lingo Defined*~

SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense.

Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. See above for a watered down explanation for how the stats are calculated.

Noble Nine - Link, Cloud, Solid Snake, Sephiroth, Mario, Crono, Sonic, Samus and Mega Man.

How is that boring? No knowledge means you don't know what's going to happen next, which is good in a close match.

Sorry, I didn't explain that well. Consider a game of football. If there is no scoreboard, no down markers, etc, and several important rules have been changed before the game, all of which are kept secret by the refs, you probably wouldn't enjoy the game very much because you don't know who is in the more advantageous position. You can't begin to discuss who will win, or feel emotion because you have no idea what's going on.

This analogy doesn't really work because the only thing we don't know is how the trends will play out. We have everything else. The trends aren't the scoreboard, the down markers, or anything. If the poll never updated (or updated between very long intervals), that'd be the equivalent of what you said.

I don't know about that. I saw Fable up by 15, then ten minutes later, TF2 has a 40-something lead. Fable's lead never strays more than 20 ahead before TF2 suddenly gets a spike of like 30 votes.

TF2 has been leading for the majority of the match. Fable is the one that's making (most) of the ridiculous spikes.

What Sox means is that not knowing who's winning ATM sucks. Basically you don't know what the hell is going on, which makes the match hard to get hyped about.

Fable had the lead by getting a 53 vote spike after TF had spent several updates building the lead. That's why it seems fishy.

I mean, that's like saying a game of football is boring because you don't know who's going to win.

I think it's not a bad analogy, but if you prefer, we can revise it. Suppose it's a normal game of football, except you started watching in the 3rd quarter, and there are no scoreboards. You can still see the action on the field, but you have no idea how many points each team scored in the first half. The winner is clearly more unpredictable for you than if you knew the first half scores, but you're also going to have less fun watching.

Oh, of course, but if you were watching the last match of the season and everything hinged upon it, you would want to know who's beating who before the game ends.

Yeah, but we still know the score of this match.

So I don't really get the analogy. We know the score. We just don't know the final score because we haven't gotten there yet and neither team has established themselves as the superior team yet.

So change the analogy to we know who's winning and what the score is, but we have no idea how much time is left and have no way to find out. The game could be close and someone is driving, but if we don't know if they only have time for one play or if there is still a whole half left it makes it a lot less fun to watch.
