I'm sorry friend, not sure if I've ever called you out on this before, but I have serious doubts about whether you actually did this. When I first ran the poll, Melee only got one vote, and I remember without a doubt that the lone vote came from Ed Bellis. Maybe it's true that you've never voted for Brawl (perhaps you just didn't vote in the first poll), but unless my memory is seriously wonky, you didn't vote for Melee in the first poll.

Analysis

While it wasn’t totally unexpected when SBAllen announced this contest the board went crazy and it isn’t that hard to see why. For the first time in years more than two entrants have a decent chance at winning and with the winner of this contest SBAllen will have the ability to create a Tournament of Champions like CJayC did in 2005 if he ever decides to make another game bracket in the future, hopefully no generational divisions.

For the first time in contest history a Nintendo option is not present in the opening match, but we are still continuing the traditional blowouts. While the top seed in the top division in a NCAA bracket is usually reserved for the favourite of the contest Fallout 3 doesn’t quite fill that role. I also don’t feel that Fallout 3’s performance in the last contest was entirely true, though that might not matter since Fallout: New Vegas was released today so Fallout 3 gets to bask in the fallout from a new release for the entire contest. How much it gets will be unknown even after this match because we don’t really have much information on inFamous.

The only polls that included inFamous were the GotY polls and the vote-in. Between the three I would have to say that the one where it went even with Demon’s Souls was probably its best performance, not exactly a threat to Fallout 3. An exact percentage against Fallout 3 is hard since the only 2009 game that was in the last contest was Street Fighter IV and that game probably doesn’t do the year much justice. Either way I feel that Fallout 3 is capable of breaking 70% in this match especially on the night after the release of Fallout: New Vegas. If it doesn’t I wouldn’t ring warning bells, but it would be a disappointing start.

I'm surprised that FFX over RE4 is just pretty much assumed and not discussed at all. I favor FFX there but RE4 seems like a dark horse that could mess up everyone's brackets. I don't think this is a lock. These games are close.

Yoblazer and others ran a series of Melee vs. Brawl polls on Board 8. Brawl won the first one, right after launch in a landslide. Then, each month for the first few months after release, Melee did better, but still lost easily. The poll was rerun again after a year, and then two, at which time it finally became close. I ran a poll a few weeks ago in which Melee finally won.

I dunno. MGS4 beat RE4 pretty easily and FFX beat MGS4. RE4 couldn't beat TP even when it was being LFF'd by Brawl (although some would argue RE4 was being LFF'd a bit itself, but I dunno how I feel about that one). Plus, FFX has smoked RE4 in both of those Game of the Century polls (although, again, RE4 overlaps with a lot of stuff).
