GameFAQs Contests

Has there been any discussion on the effect of the format as compared to the 4-way from the last games contest (not counting LFF of course)? Are people expecting any sort of systematic difference, like some games underperforming with respect to their 4-way performance?

I personally think that if there will be any differences due to format, they would be hard to predict in terms of direction.

Not very much so. Most of it has been centered around Halo and World of Warcraft. Yoblazer mentioned that he thought 4-ways may have hurt Resident Evil 4 due to it being not independent, and I agree with that, though RE4 has a pretty clear-cut path.

Melee should have the rallying edge over Brawl. I don't think there's a big site you could rally for Brawl at without causing close to half of the people you rally to vote for Melee. On the other hand, there are Smash communities where you can get 90%+ of rallied voters to go for Melee.

Can someone remind me why TF2 > Fable is so obvious? The sequel coming out like next week doesn't scare anyone? This site is practically brainwashing people right now with the constant Fable ads and I've even seen a lot of ads for F3 on TV =/

Hey I totally forgot brackets are locked today.

And with Pokemon, I had no idea what to do with it. I was tempted to have it lose to the first Zelda, and then other times I was tempted to take it to beat MGS4, and possibly FFX.

I can't imagine HGSS not boosting that game, plus we're guaranteed to get Bulbapedia rallying their asses off for it on top of the "FINAL FANTASY ALWAYS WINS" crowd dicking FFX over. I just picked it one round early is all.

Worth noting is GSC outright beat Metal Gear Solid during the day last year. FFT in the poll or not, that is not easy to do. 1 > 4 and Pokemon gets 4 (or 3) during a day match. And if it beats 4, I don't see how it can't beat a game only slightly stronger.

There is little doubt in my mind Melee-supporters will rub it in the faces of Brawl-supporters if SSBM wins. SSBB-backers may too, but almost certainly to a lesser extent. Either way, you don't want to be on the losing side of it since it's the biggest match this board's had since Mario/Samus...

..though Mario/Samus was artificially enlarged afterward thanks to Ulti's immediate LOL X-STATS campaign. It was big before and people made their feelings known, but that's largely become what that match represents to us now. For as great as it is that we're getting SSBM/SSBB, I'll go ahead and say **** whoever wants to rub the result into other people's faces first because it's only going downhill after the match.

I'm happy with my bracket. A few things I'm not 100% comfortable with, but I won't be comfortable with whatever I pick there anyway.

Not that it matters, since I know my bracket's going to lose anyway. That's why I'm going to win the Battle Challenge instead!

I honestly feel bad about the Mario/Samus stuff, and I learned my lesson from it. I am not gloating at all or saying the match was obvious if Melee wins, and you're free to save this and rub it in if I get out of line. But just to warn you, I would make a topic about being the only guy to vote Melee in blazer's project from day 1. I was the Melee > Brawl guy on this site for quite awhile, and even now I get e-mails about the Brawl review. I like to think I had something to do with getting the opinion turned around.

Not apologizing for lol x-stats though, because it's a pretty cool little Board 8 meme.

I'm sorry friend, not sure if I've ever called you out on this before, but I have serious doubts about whether you actually did this. When I first ran the poll, Melee only got one vote, and I remember without a doubt that the lone vote came from Ed Bellis. Maybe it's true that you've never voted for Brawl (perhaps you just didn't vote in the first poll), but unless my memory is seriously wonky, you didn't vote for Melee in the first poll.
