Are you guys happy with your brackets, or do you guys plan on making a few more tweaks? I'm still a little wishy washy on the Halo/Halo 3 fourpack, and I'm also trying to talk myself out of taking Crystal as far as I have, that's about it.

I've had HL2 since day 1 but I waffled a few days ago. I just figure this is an RPG site and that will shine through. HL2's rally potential is immense though and I almost picked it to win the contest.

I'm as happy with my bracket as I'm going to get, I suppose. I try not to edit my bracket after the first week of the bracket's release though; changing that policy last contest bit me in the ass every single time. I want to second-guess matches as big as FFX/GSC and as small as Paper Mario:TTYD/Gears of War, but...well, just gotta trust in myself and the bracket after a certain point.

I looked through FFX the past few years, and it has a solid grab in contests with 4+ entrants. It seems like a real sign of strength that FFX tends to gets its votes first in terms of the decade. Smash Bros. has a natural split Nintendo fanbase, and I have this FFX > Smash feeling, but I've seen Nintendo chew the heck out of everything in contests here.

Sunshine makes me think because it's Mario in a 1v1 against a game that won't be highly regarded. I could see Sunshine making two Halo games look foolish, even moreso considering that few people really like Sunshine. When I think about it like this, it seems like we're ripe for a lot of LOL HALO topics and yet I don't have Sunshine in my bracket. That's making me itchy.

I think Fallout 3 looked better last contest, it's an RPG and has a 'sequel' coming out tomorrow and I don't think HL2 has improved enough to really recover from that.

Hmmm if Portal and Half-Life 2 met, who would win? maybe you guys already discussed that sorta thing to death

Probably Half-Life 2. It's Valve's flagship game/series. It has two sequels and the total playtime is like an insane 30+ hours. Hard for five-hour Portal to compete.

I dunno, I always saw it as kind of a tossup. Portal got a lot more buzz around here than HL2 ever did, maybe because Portal hit all at once when Orange Box came out whereas HL2 has been slowly discovered over a number of years.

how does everyone feel about Oblivion vs. Mass Effect? I expect people to take Oblivion there en masse but I dunno, ME is kind of unproven and I could see it doing real damage now that it doesn't have Fallout 3 on its back. I definitely hear more about ME than I do Oblivion.

I'm pretty happy with my bracket. At first I had crystal beating melee, but after some consideration I had Melee > FFX for the final match. I for the most part have no problems with my bracket, even if it has a few risky picks.

Well, I think HL2 was ahead even when just looking at contest results. It was consistently worth 39-40% on Twilight Princess while Portal consistently scored 36-37% on MGS4. I also think HL2's semi-close win against FFXII was more impressive than Portal's similarly close win against Bioshock. You pit the two together, and I also gotta side with HL2 getting the SFF.

I also look at the bracket in general and think that Galaxy could have been used better, it's like two obvious wins and then out to TP. I'd like to have seen some Galaxy v KH setup.

I hate it because I love Oblivion and have no experience with ME and I would either be picking with bias, or against bias, and in those situations I tend to side with what other people pick instead of my own conclusion.

I've brought this up before and didn't manage to get much discussion, but it's hard to compare them stat-wise; the best I could do was try assuming LoZ:TP = MGS4 since HL2/Portal faced them twice...which leads HL2 to a 53%-54% victory, and I'd take LoZ:TP to beat MGS4 too.

That said, Portal's had a busy year. Portal 2 was announced with its release coming up soon, and Valve gave away probably over two million copies of Portal for free with its release of Steam for Macs (don't mind the link's name; that was when there were still four days left):

Portal was also the star of the Orange Box, which is what it took for Gordon Freeman to finally become respectable here. It'd be hard to take it over HL2, but I'd bet on it getting close head-to-head (closer than FF12 got last year).

Even though we don't know much about Fable or if CoD4 SFF'd TF2, I'll be inclined to agree. A TS2-victory (and strong showings from L4D against GoW and HL2 against GTA3) will make Portal look a lot better, but those are easier said than done.

TF2 got stupid-cheap stupid-often and word of mouth caught on at B8...plus when they opened up trading in the game, the TF2-board got swamped in a matter of minutes.

Probably to some degree, but we don't know if its BGE2-value's legit or not and we don't know where Fable's at.

TF2 is a monster amongst the right audience. it's just a matter of figuring out if that audience crosses enough with GameFAQs. people adore the hell out of that game, but only the PC version.

This sig-space should be replaced by any number of GameFOX-sigs I made to support Epona from LoZ:OoT to make the next Character Battle.

Because tf2 is multiplayer-oriented and still being constantly updated, it's managed to be the rare game that has constantly grown rather than declined since its release. It's likely a bit stronger than its value in BGE2. Considering we really have no idea where Fable is, you'd have to be betting on tf2 to be very weak in order to rationalize taking Fable over it, and I'm not ready to do that.

Team Fortress 2 is one of those games that you don't even have had to play in order to love. Even if you don't play the game, the cast members are everywhere, and Valve constantly puts out hilarious videos. Everyone knows and loves TF2. Everyone knows and hates Fable.

^Right, the 360 versions of the HL2 and its episodes/Portal are single player content, and easily enjoyable on a console. TF2, on the other hand, is **** compared to the PC versions, especially three years removed where its still getting free updates, weapons, maps, modes, items, patches, etc and I think the 360 version hasn't been updated once lol. TF2 has remained popular(I know "lol board standings" but its been a permanent fixture of the top 10 PC boards since 2007), but only with the PC gamers.

Honestly? No one ever brings up the fact that CoD4 was SFFing TF2 in that match. Why everyone looks at the Pokemon and the Mario game and not the two online & console FPS multiplayer games is beyond me.

I've been mentioning it, but it's hard to say how much it really means. CoD4 was already beating Orange Box easily in its multi-platform GotY in 2007, TF2's the weakest of the Orange Box's games pretty easily here, and TF2 is such a unique kind of FPS that's PC-dominant while CoD4 had marketed itself to be the new standard -- especially for consoles. I imagine there was at least a little, but anything more feels uncertain and presumptuous until it proves itself.

The Original Half-Life got 44% when Metroid Prime was rather new, and well over months before HL2 came out. A few years have passed, and I also would take Half-Life 2 over the original any day of the week, with ease. Can it potentially beat Metroid Prime, which has been much weaker then in the past? I'm thinking so.

I'm happy. Only considering changing to Oblivion > Wind Waker and Team Fortress 2 > Batman.

Wind Waker, even in a day match, feels like the type of game the western fans will go into full-on Eff You mode against and Oblivion is close enough to where it could take advantage. Something huge, somewhere, will happen with a western game or two this contest. Oblivion feels like the big candidate for it.

That's what I'm kinda thinking with this. I'm sure there were some people who drifted to CoD4 just because of how big it is and it's the standard way to play FPSs, and there's no doubt TF2-fans consider themselves FPS-fans...but we're talking about a comical cel-shaded class-based teams-only PC-dominant game with an emphasis on hats. Overlap is skeptical past a certain degree.
