TP did get like 47% on Brawl, so it wasn't really a stretch that it could beat it. TP was favored by most of us over FFX back then too, before the Deboost.

Well, I think I had just beaten TP at the time, so I was kinda high on it.

But yeah, I posted one of those "Rank these games" things with a bunch of our non-FFVII/OoT contenders, and a lot of people had Brawl near the bottom, below TP, FFX, RE4, and the like.

I got both of Jill's 27 vote losses wrong.

And Jill/Ryu Hayabusa may have cost me a contest victory. After 30 correct matches to open the contest, I lost the perfect on a 27-vote match- and simultaneously was eliminated from the Guru to boot. No idea how Ryu H. was favored 66-4 or something like that in the Guru.

Yeah, I would have taken 1st in 2004 if there were just a handful of votes more for Jill... Never will forget that match.

2004 was such a predictable SFF fest that just getting one match wrong was enough to do you in. There were, what, 4 brackets that only missed one match?

Including one of them getting Ryu/KOS-MOS wrong, of all things.

Yeah, it's crazy. Before Summer 2004, I think Ulti's 185 was the all-time high score in a contest. We had at least 50 brackets higher than that in that contest, I think.

The really interesting part about the Battle Challenge is that we can adjust expectations as the contest goes on. Board 8 is going to dominate the leaderboards for that one.

Speaking of dumb picks, here's one of mine...!

Speaking of bets with BT, I would be more than glad to leave BT alone about the 43%-45% quote he has if he would simply admit Solid Snake would have beaten Mega Man that year...but he has defended Mega Man would beat him since then at least once and never will admit how lucky he was. So, I'll just make the most of how wrong BT was for making that bet and saying that quote until he changes his mind. When he acknowledges the truth out loud here, I'll leave him be about that quote.

lets analyze it like this:

add MP, SMG and MM's vote totals to SSM's total and F3 and MGS3 totals to FFX

split RE4 but more in favor of SSM i'd think (maybe like 60-40) and that's how close the finals of GotD will be

They called Sonic Snake winning it all when few/none of us were, backed us up on Samus winning the Female Bracket, and the LoZ:WW > MP result lined up pretty well with their 2004-result.


It's to be taken with a grain of salt, but people base their expectations off of their perceived popularity...if a game seems popular, it probably is, and this is a poll with many of the greats of the past decade. Watch out for LFF and take this with a grain of salt anyway, but...

...well, then there's not really much to take from this poll then after that. Voila!

MGS4 over MGS3 seems far more likely now based on these polls:

MGS4 got 58.21% on Fallout 3 in round 2 and 57.98% on Fallout 3 in round 3. Fallout 3 has 57.07% on MGS3 right now. Even if you think that MGS3 was being LFFed by RE4, MGS4 still has a very large cushion over MGS3.

Up until today, I never seriously considered Half-Life 2 > Metroid Prime.

Now? I'm not sure if Metroid is getting past Devil May Cry 3. >_> Okay, that's a bit of a stretch; but seriously, Prime looks bloody awful here. I guess Other M backlash is taking its toll!

Here are some matches I made that might make YOU raise an eyebrow... (also, keep in mind I "predicted" this contest about a year after it happened)...

-Grand Theft Auto: Vice City > Kingdom Hearts in Round 1....... huh, well, at least I predicted GTA:VC to do better than MP....
-FFX > GTA: VC in Round 2... yeah, I guess I predicted GTA games didn't divebomb or something.
-Resident Evil 4 > Gears of War (?!) in Round 1.... I didn't expect KH2 to do much, since it struggled with Soul Calibur of all games a few years prior...
-Super Mario Galaxy > Team Fortress 2...... um, yeah. I didn't know Call of Duty 4 was popular. But I was also pretty clueless, since I hadn't paid attention to gaming for a year or so.
-FF4 making it to the SEMI-FINALS.... I overestimated leeching between the Mario games, mainly. True, if it had beaten SMB/SMW in Round 3 it would have made it where I wanted it to.

Other past blunders include taking Magus to win SC2K3... I was sort of lying to myself, but I tried to convince myself that Magus could do it, since he's supposedly much more liked than Crono. I'll tell you what... if Magus was as popular as Link, Chrono Trigger would be the top game on this site without question!

...replacing LoZ:TP with LoZ:MM can't hurt SMG, and replacing SSBB with SSBM doesn't do MP any favors. Removing LoZ:WW means one less Gamecube game, so that's nice...but with SSBM in the poll, if you thought a LoZ-game was hurt by SSBM last year, this poll shows us what it could do to Metroid!


As if multi-option polls and SFF can be explained that easily...but I think it's a start to explaining SMG turn it around on MP here.

Wow, not a bad performance at all from Fallout 3. I probably wasn't going to waffle on its semifinal placing in my bracket, but this doesn't hurt my confidence, at least.
