A = Strongest Character
B = Character Weaker than A
C = Character Weaker than B
To figure out a character's Xsts Percentage ---> [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
To compare how C would do against B ---> [(CvA)/(BvA)]*50 = CvB
To figure out how B would do against A ---> [(CvA)/(CvB)]*50 = BvA

~*Say What? Common Stats Topic Lingo Defined*~

SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense.

Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. See above for a watered down explanation for how the stats are calculated.

Noble Nine - Link, Cloud, Solid Snake, Sephiroth, Mario, Crono, Sonic, Samus and Mega Man.

Batman > Fallout is a fun upset, but with New Vegas on the way? I just can't convince myself it's a good idea.

Sonic/Street Fighter is killing me, though! Both games have looked pathetic in past polls... but I can't figure out which one is less pathetic. I'm thinking Sonic, partially because of Sonic 4; but who knows? Thank God it's just a one-point match (like TF2/Fable, which is also baffling).

Europe doesn't matter that much on GameFAQs.

Europe means a lot more in night matches than day matches. Lately, Europe has been contributing a larger percentage of the total votes than a few months ago. Here was the average vote distribution for Poll 3857 to 4013:

North America - 77.32% / South America - 2.13% / Europe - 14.71% / Asia - 3.10% / Oceania - 2.63% / Africa - 0.12%

After Poll 4013, the overall distribution currently looks like this:

North America - 76.69% / South America - 2.21% / Europe - 15.37% / Asia - 2.87% / Oceania - 2.73% / Africa - 0.12%

Asia kind of dropped off a bit since Poll 4013, probably as a result of FFXIII generating less site traffic over the past several weeks than when the game was still very recent. And given the higher amount of traffic from Europe lately, the chance that Europe gets over 20% of the votes in a night match is a likely possibility (19.85% is currently Europe's record for a night match).

Crono/Missingno. was decided by Europe actually.

You can't discount Europe's influence. If Chrono Trigger was released here back in the day one of the most controversial results in contest history may have never even happened. 15% of the total votes might not seem like a lot, but the differences in pattern can make a major difference in close matches.

Getting back to the trends Leon posted earlier...

Time | MGS4 | Portal | Fallout 3 | Halo 3 | Demographic
PHV | 36.23% | 22.53% | 24.34% | 16.89% | (0:00-1:00)
FNV | 36.99% | 22.06% | 25.24% | 15.71% | (1:00-6:00)
BSV | 37.61% | 21.73% | 25.21% | 15.44% | (6:00-9:00)
DSV | 34.62% | 20.08% | 25.35% | 19.95% | (9:00-14:30)
ASV | 34.52% | 19.61% | 26.08% | 19.79% | (14:30-22:00)
SNV | 34.85% | 20.49% | 26.07% | 18.59% | (22:00-24:00)

Yikes! Halo 3 sure lucked out by not drawing a Night Match... on the weekend... against a series with an exceptional power hour... and strong before school presence.

That was a day match, so Europe only got 11.72% of the votes in that match. Europe tends to get around 10% to 13% of the votes in a day match, while 14.23% is Europe's record in a day match. A record that happened in the Snake/Sephiroth match.

This is why DS > MM9 btw, without meaning to beat a dead horse. ~20% of the votes are coming from a region where DS sold exceptionally well (close to a third of its total sales are from Europe, I believe) and where Mega Man is close to a non-entity. Think I said it before, but it's a very reasonable chance that DS puts up a 70-30 or something in Europe, and in a night match that's an enormous mountain for MM9 to overcome (if my maths is right that'd leave MM9 needing to beat 55-45 on DS elsewhere).

The weekend match probably helps Halo 3 out a bit, actually, because the morning vote becomes like an ASV on the weekend.

More like it was decided by North America. If NA didn't make the match close enough then Europe couldn't have given Missingno the push it needed.

DS isn't going to 70-30 MM9 in Europe. Mega Man doing bad in Europe is simply the result of the UK. And Ireland as well, looking at some maps from the last contest. If you want to see the huge difference between the UK and the rest of Europe, look at this:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3447&region=EUR

Mega Man 2 only does about 2% worse in Europe compared to the overall result (34.79%). Now, let's bring the UK into the picture:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3447&region=GB

Yikes! 19.86% in the UK. When the UK is already hogging up 41.26% of Europe's total votes in that match, it takes quite a lot to bring Mega Man from 19.86% in the UK up to 32.46% in Europe overall. If you threw out all of the votes from the UK, the results for Europe would look like this:

Mega Man 2 41.32% 3715
Pac-Man 29.76% 2676
Pong 26.06% 2343
The Oregon Trail 2.86% 257
TOTAL VOTES 8991

But then you pansied your way out of it by saying "Oh no I didn't mean I would I meant that I might as well go ahead and close it if it happens"

I have to side with BT on this. The Snake 43% round 2 declaration wasn't an account bet, it was an expression of confidence. No one bet against him. Besides, lots of people have said they would do certain things if certain results surprised them, in non-bet situations, and a lot of them were not taken seriously by anyone.

The 90s probably have 6 games that would beat the winner of this contest, maybe as many as 9.
