~*Say What? Common Stats Topic Lingo Defined*~

SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense.

Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. See above for a watered down explanation for how the stats are calculated.

Noble Nine - Link, Cloud, Solid Snake, Sephiroth, Mario, Crono, Sonic, Samus and Mega Man.

Galaxy got curbstomped last year. And if it's even half as good as some of the fanboys in this topic claim, Sunshine will be Tanner level by comparison. Sunshine might beat Halo 3, but no way it beats Combat Evolved.

I don't really understand it myself, but for whatever reason people consider Halo: CE to be much better than 2 or 3. I personally preferred 3, but whatever.

^This is true, its not uncommon at all to see Halo fans put CE on top and 3 on the bottom of their rankings. Nostalgia is a powerful tool, and then you add in which one is the Game of the Decade, and CE fits that title a bit more despite the success across the entire series.

Mario only has a shot at Halo 3 cuz its a night match... Halo sucks at night cuz its mainly an American game in terms of fans, and Mario has the best morning vote in the business. Having a day match is a HUGE advantage to Halo, cuz its got a great ASV.

I'm probably the biggest Halo: CE fan here.. but I think Halo 3 has a chance against it. Merely because I think among the casual players, they will vote for Halo 3. They view it as the more recent and superior entry in the series. Yes, the hardcore Halo fans think CE is the best (because it is, I won't get into why unless you ask me, and no it's not nostalgia, at least not to most fans) but the simple fact is Halo 3 has sold 2-3 million more copies, and more people on GameFAQs have Xbox 360s than Xboxes (looking at the "got?" polls, it's a 60-40 advantage) and I KNOW there are many, many people on the site who bought Halo 3 and didn't buy any others. People come to the CE board all the time saying they bought Halo 3 and ask the board if Halo CE is worth purchasing from XBLA. In fact I think the downloadable copy on XBLA could save Halo CE if it's a really close match since it's sold decently to people who have never owned the original Xbox.

I'm still taking CE, but it's not a slam dunk by any means. I compare it EXACTLY to Brawl vs Melee. Either could win, but Brawl will have more casual support and the recency argument.

The pistol is certainly ****ing awesome, but it's not just the pistol. The pistol does make the multiplayer more balanced and skillful though, and is definitely the weapon of choice.. anyone who doesn't at least keep it as a backup weapon is a fool since it's useful in all situations besides extreme long range. I'd only ever drop it if I had a sniper rifle AND the rocket launcher.

But in terms of the campaign, the plasma pistol and shotgun are preferable to it (on Legendary anyway), since they are almost necessary to kill Elites and the Flood, while the pistol is not.

I can go into more detail as to why I prefer the original if you care. But it'd be quite a long post.

Do I actually have to beat the game in under 45 minutes to get that last trophy? That is INSANE. Also I'm not totally sure I understand the ending, but it was really sad.

I'm honestly very worried Majora's Mask will beat it even though every stat suggests otherwise. It's not even x-stats, either. GSC came close to it with RBY in the same poll. Remove RBY and GSC jumps way up. The question is whether or not Majora's Mask will be an OOT proxy and gets tons of support.

It's a very important match, because if GSC wins it has a fee ride to the semifinal with FFX.

Oh I am too, but the match reminds me of Zero/Luigi in... 2005, was it? Luigi had literally no reason to win that match, but smoked it anyway. Nintendo v Nintendo is just weird.

Anyway Harr, I started a new game so I could write a guide for it. One thing I haven't touched on is the music. My GOD is it good.

G/S/C I feel will come up short against MGS3, R/B/Y vs MGS is the closest indicator we have but still, I dunno, you talk about momentum, but MGS3 will have won the same number of matches.

RBY doesn't seem to have a lot of overlap with other Nintendo games, so it wouldn't surprise me if it turns out there was no LFF between RBY and GSC, despite them both being the same series.

Crazy theory, yeah, but I'm wary as hell about GSC. Though I'll probably end up picking it to make it out of its division anyway.

Yeah, it didn't do so well last time (against amazing competition to be fair), and its main character got crushed by Mario ages ago, but it wasn't ever $2.50 on steam back then.

Wow, I didn't even consider taking Disgaea over Valkyria. I must be out of the loop. When did Disgaea become popular?

I don't think Tony Hawk is getting the respect it deserves either. Maybe I'm letting nostalgia blind me there.

It seems that some people are taking KH1 > 2. Sora didn't even become respected on this site until the second game!

I've beaten the game in just over thirty-two minutes before. It's all about completely learning how everything works in each world and each puzzle that comes along with it. Forty-five minutes is very scary, yes, and it took me awhile to beat it that fast...but it's not nearly the threat you think it may be. Like beating the game itself, I'd encourage you to beat the time on your own before looking up outside help.

If you're ready for a real threat, find the stars...where you may want outside help (at least for finding them; I encourage you to figure them out on your own). =)

For as interesting of things you can find in other people's theories about the game, don't ever let anybody tell you want it truly means. It's a game that refuses to be looked at directly and Blow's said he intentionally doesn't tell the whole story in Braid. If you like the theory-side of the game, try looking in a forum in search of quality-posts...or lemme know when you're on AIM sometime; I've saved a lot of good posts and quotes I've seen from Braid-discussions about its theories.

And believe me when I say, after all the reading I've done on it (interviews, making of's, forums, guides, etc.), I'm still not very confident on what it's about...and I think that's kinda beautiful by the way it was done.
