Yeah, but compared to HGSS, FRLG is nothing. HGSS is both more recent and an overall better remake. Also, nostalgia is super effective (lol) when you're talking about the original in a series. That's why I have Halo going so far. There are a lot of people who think that anything over 151 is too much. MM will take GSCrystal down pretty easy.

MM couldn't take down GSC easily with RBY in the poll. You're a fool if you don't think GSC has a real chance to win.

Also loving the Fallout 3 underestimation. It did pretty damn solid in the last contest, easily showing it's the #3 game of the gen (Batman and Uncharted 2 won't match that, MW2 might but we're not gonna see FO3/MW2). I think Fallout 3 will have no problem winning the division, and even less of a problem making the Final Four.

And I'm predicting that would happen even without taking a New Vegas boost into account.

Yeah, I took Symphonia to win its match in the 4-way precisely because I felt it was standing out in that match and was in perfect position to pull an upset. (Of course, I didn't see Oblivion winning the match either, so really that didn't do me all that much good) ...It doesn't have that at all here.

GoW is casual bait though and has every reason to decay quickly over the years. That's why I took it, in fact: the idea that in a battle of who's rotted more, the cult fanbase will hold a little stronger.

The last contest was 1.5 years ago and God of War is still very alive.

Sims is not a game this site likes, facing SotC or not.

Sims is a legitimately better game than SotC. I realize that, on the site where FFVII is the second best game of all time, that doesn't mean anything at all, but I think it should be said.

Fallout 3 feels like the type of game that'll fade as it gets older on GameFAQs IMO. New Vegas is the only thing it has.

I'm actually not getting the Half-Life 2 support entirely (though I do have it winning its division). My impression was that Fallout 3 was basically handed a Final Four Appearance because all the stronger games are stuck in divisions with each other and destroying each other. Half-Life 2 barely beat FF12. I have a harder time seeing Fallout 3 have that close a call with it. But maybe I'm putting way too much stock in those GotY polls from however long ago.

My thoughts:

North Division

A fairly weak division overall, the only matches that really jump out at me are SF4 vs Sonic Adventure (day match probably favours Sonic) and Halo 3/Sunshine, because SMS is a complete wildcard. Halo CE should walk away from the bottom half and Fallout 3 is pretty much guaranteed the top half and the division itself.

Northeast Division

A fairly weak, but close division, Metroid Prime should get to the divisionals, barring DMC3 or Mega Man 9 being a force. The bottom half is where it gets interesting. God of War, GTA3, Half-Life 2 and the winner of ToS/RE5 all have legit shots to get to the divisional finals, and could potentially beat Metroid Prime. I'm thinking it will be Metroid > GoW in the finals.

East Division

Probably the most straight forward division. The only tossup is the Brawl/Melee clash, but I can't see Brawl losing it, despite what some of you guys think about the games.

Southeast Division

Starts off easy, but gets tricky near the end. The first one that jumps out at me is Battlefront 2 vs Bioshock. Bioshock stunk it up last contest, and Battlefront 2 looked great in the vote-ins. I think BF2 is a great upset pick there. Other than that, Dissidia has the potential to ruin a few brackets, but I think it's fairly safe to take Kingdom Hearts there. I wouldn't be surprised if Dissidia ran away with the bottom half of the division though. Galaxy/TP has potential, but Galaxy was crappy enough last contest that I think TP can take it. That leaves the KH/KH2 match (I'm inclined to take 2 since that's where Sora's big boost came from). The winner loses to TP fairly easily.

South Division

Another easy division, the one that gave me the most pause was Civ 4/Persona, but I think with Civ 5 being so recent it should take an easy win.

Southwest Division

I really like the Portal/Gears/Crisis Core/FF12 fourpack. The winner of that group probably beats Mass Effect and gets to the division finals to be fed to RE4. Other than that, Braid/Persona 4 has potential.

West Division

SotC was decent enough last contest to be a threat to MGS2. Other than that, I think MGS4/Diablo 2 has great potential, with the winner likely taking the division. Paper Mario/WoW is a bit of a tossup, but the day match tends me to picking Mario.

Northwest Division

A disappointingly easy division, the outcome depends on how good Pokemon Crystal turns out. It could lose to Mario Kart Wii, or it could beat Majora's Mask and take the division. I think the fun will be if Wind Waker/Majora's Mask have it out for the divisional finals, with the winner pretty much guaranteed a place in the semifinals.

There is a possibility that Valve has grown since early 2009 with their ever-increasing console presence and the continually crazy deals they always have on Steam. That, and late-contest Valve involvement might be scaring some people. I have Fallout and think its earned its spot as the favorite, but HL2 doesn't strike me as a particularly bad pick.

I'd LOVE to see GTAIII shock the site, though. Claude ftw.

I took SA2 over Uncharted 2. I mean, I feel uncomfortable with picking Sonic Adventure 2 to win any match it's in, but yeah, Uncharted 2 is not on the list of games I see as a threat to Fallout 3.

Oh, I don't think it's necessarily that bad of a pick, I was just surprised to see it as much as I have/portrayed as close to a favorite in that match. I'm more than sure I have a few worse picks myself scattered around my bracket. (Persona 3 winning a match? Persona 4 in Round 3? SA2 in Round 3? That kind of thing.)

Still, looking "about the same" makes it a toss-up!

I dunno, I could end up waffling a lot there, but Fallout twice proved itself to be worth high 50s on Halo 3. I'm not sure if HL2 could equal that.

SA2 in Round 3 is a very realistic possibility. It's the only Sonic game in the bracket, and probably the last half-way decent Sonic game. Uncharted 2 is going to be a bomb of epic proportions. It just depends on if Sonic can manage to bomb harder.

The 2009 Contest definitely does seem to help in HL2's favor, I admit (I couldn't remember what Fallout 3 did there, to be honest [and didn't feel like looking it up], so I was left with just the GotY polls in memory.)
