Bacon doesn't have time.

If he wants to finish the contest before the end of this year he has to start it before the end of this month.

Yeah, I suppose Bacon could still do tidbits after releasing the bracket. His new "twist" may not be immediately apparent upon the unveiling of the bracket or on the bracket form.

I'm almost sure we get a bracket next Monday. Bacon can't afford to put off the bracket any longer than this, because we need to finish the contest by December 23rd (the final match) if he wants to run a "What did you think of this year's Game of the Decade?" poll on December 24th. We will need about 2 weeks to fill out brackets. October 22nd is the latest we can get the contest started, because that would make the final match arrive on December 23rd.

Assuming he uses a format identical to CB8, the contest will last 65 days. Assuming the absolute deadline to end this is December 24, we'd already be dealing with a prediction period around (or less than) two weeks long.

Actually, make that October 20th. I thought the contest was 63 days, not 65 days (thank you yoblazer for correcting me there).

I'm not sure why you guys think he's locked into a 2010 timeframe. Fall 2010 isn't something definite, it can bleed into 2011.

He's already said that his deadline is to finish the contest before the holidays when someone asked if he could start doing 24 hour matches starting with the Elite Eight instead of the Final Four so he's on a pretty tight schedule.

It can't bleed into 2011 because it interferes with the "Got Console?" polls that run from December 26th to December 31st. It would also interfere with the GotY polls that start on January 1st.

Because Bacon stated the reason he didn't want to make the Elite 8 24 hours was because the contest was already 'too close to the contest season'

Obviously if he cares enough about that to not extend the contest by a piddly 2 days or so, he's not going to want to delay the bracket

I get the feeling we won't get the bracket for a while. those Tidbits aren't done with, not if he's going to reveal his master plan regarding a twist via Tidbit.

I say we get the bracket, like, Friday or something.

Well I don't see why he wouldn't keep using tidbits even when the bracket is up

I just don't know why he's been putting stuff like the vote-ins off when he could've easily done them the week before last.

The bracket should have essentially been done by the time the vote-ins started. He had to organize all the data in order to decide what games were going to be in the vote-in, at least. He should just be able to plug in the vote-in winners and be done with it at this point.

If he wants the contest to end on December 23 (which would give him time for one "how did you like the contest" poll, one Christmas poll, and then those "Got Systems" polls before GotY polling), then I think he has to start on October 20. Any later, and he either has to push things back or eliminate a traditional poll. Monday is October 4. That already gives us barely two weeks. If he wants to start things earlier than the 20th, we might end up with like ten days to predict.

Yeah he said to Zen this won't bleed into 2011. A lot of people on this site, including me, love the yearly Got polls and the GotY pseudo-award.

Besides, we don't freaking need a month to make a bracket. This contest will prove it. Short predix period plz

2 weeks to predict the lot?

but really once everything's tallied up it should only take a god 5-6 hours to create a good bracket that doesn't feel thrown together, heck with his experience right now it shouldn't even take him that long just to know his bracket setup.

I love how everyone (OK, mainly Luster) says that Bacon wants to get the contest done soon so it doesn't interfere with the "Got Console?" polls rather than, say, have the ****ing contest interfere with god damn Christmas, a time I'm sure Bacon won't want to work. I'm sure finishing before Christmas is a much bigger priority than those damn console polls.

Which makes me wonder whether he'll have the contest run during Thanksgiving. If not, it'd make sense to have that be a natural stopping point for Round 2 or 3, depending on how fast we speed through bracket-making and such. Sounds like a good way to figure out a tentative start date for this thing,

I don't know how much work these contest really are for bacon.
Granted, I don't know anything about how to run those contest, but to me it seems like most of the stuff is automated. Bacon chooses which pics he likes the most (or which pics he thinks B8 will hate the most in some cases), and what else?

I'm sure finishing before Christmas is a much bigger priority than those damn console polls.

The thing is, for our purposes those two things are synonymous. The Got PotDs are clearly automated, so Bacon would set them up before heading off for the holidays. I figure he'll probably set it up to end around the 21st or 22nd, then give us a possible match vs. OoT/FFVII/Resident Evil Gaiden, a "Do you think ____ is really GotD?" poll, a "what are your plans for winter holiday" poll, the "what did you get" traditional one, then the Got.

Here's a small tidbit of info on the second method of entering the contest. Normally, you'd just fill out your bracket and if you weren't sure who was or wasn't going to win a particular battle, you'd just guess. For the second contest, it might actually be more beneficial for you not to pick a winner of a particular battle at all.

What's the PUSH?

Basically, if you end up with a spread, you can bet on a push.

Say, in a match between TP and RE4, the spread was TP (-2). If TP won 52/48, it'd be a push.

Of course, with exact percentages, a push would be pretty much impossible unless it's just guessing the general percentage (like if TP ends up with 52-52.99%, it'd be considered a push or something).

I dunno. Seems less likely now that I think about it that way.
