FFX
got screwed in this bracket. Melee in its own division, then it has to
beat Brawl if it wins? All three all on the same half, ensuring a bad
final? Common Stats Topic Lingo Defined*~ SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense. Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. See above for a watered down explanation for how the stats are calculated. Noble Nine - Link, Cloud, Solid Snake, Sephiroth, Mario, Crono, Sonic, Samus and Mega Man. --- `·.,¸¸,.·´¯`·.,¸¸,.·´¯`·.,¸¸,.~*ST*~.,¸¸,.·´¯`·.,¸¸,.·´¯`·.,¸¸,.· http://img.imgcake.com/ultigardenpngba.png |

FFX just gets to cakewalk it once it gets past all that though because Brawl and G/S/C are in the same division, too! Seriously, we might get an FFX vs. MGS3 final, from the looks of it. And Policenauts and a bunch of other ****. Hell, he's the mod of the Let's Play forum on SA. Anyway, since there's no point making a Part 4 for the Gamespot Topics (lol Gamespot contest) and we have a couple of days minimum to kill before the bracket comes out, might as well say I don't mind rallying that much. Even if it significantly changes a match, it's usually a one-time thing (Mario/Cloud, L-Block, etc). Plus we're pretty damn resistant to rallying as it is, and the biggest rallies would come from PC companies, whose properties are pretty weak here. Think about it, Gordon and Kerrigan wouldn't do nearly the damage they would on Gamespot. It'd probably boost them over a few characters they wouldn't normally beat, but that's it. Even if they had a 24-hour nonstop rally, I still wouldn't pick either to beat, say, Squall or Pikachu. Neither would pull an L-Block because neither would have the universal appeal that would get everyone behind them. Let's face it, GameFAQs users care a lot more about their contests than Gamespot visitors. I don't see rallying as very influential here, and don't really think it can do any harm other than alter a few close matches. Of course, those few close matches could be major, but hey, as long as it brings in more people that bring in more ad views that bring in more revenue to keep this site running, I can live with it. --- Wylvane Coffee Ninja is a horrible user. |

Tomorrow's
poll will be "Which scheduled October release are you most looking
forward to?". I find it strange that it will be run tomorrow, because
those types of polls are almost always ran on the last day of a month.
Most of the polls listed here were on the last day of a month: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?search=Which+scheduled The fact it isn't being ran on the last day of this month would potentially suggest a series polls that are related to this contest. I doubt they are vote-ins, so I don't know what it could be. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as Dr_Football, Guru Champ! |

From: MarioSuperstar | #035 He has a script that will download every poll every day or something, then he searches the polls for tomorrow's date to see if anything pops up in the Other Results part. For example, after downloading and searching the polls, he finds tomorrow's date here or one of the other October polls: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3622 Luster's definitely dedicated, even though it probably doesn't take too much work. --- Wylvane Epop_Salesman is a horrible user. |

He
has a script that will download every poll every day or something, then
he searches the polls for tomorrow's date to see if anything pops up in
the Other Results part. I use a download manager to download every poll, not a script. In order to cut down on the number of polls I download to my computer, I ignore all contest matches and other polls that I know for sure will never be re-run in the future. This trick allows me to figure out what a future poll will be if the poll question is exactly the same as a poll that was ran in the past. It will not work with original polls. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as Dr_Football, Guru Champ! |

my pick for the contest with probably Modern Warfare 2 being the
strongest newcomer...unless another handheld LoZ-game wants to shock or
Wii Sports wants a good argument to beat Super Mario Galaxy here,
neither of which I'm taking. Either way, I doubt MW2 is much/any

G/S/C
is classic Pokefear, I think. I really doubt HG/SS is going to boost it
to victory here either. I think everyone was just really impressed with
how much it resisted LFF against RBY. It got 46.67% on MGS1, and I'm
not taking MGS1 to beat FFX, Brawl, or Melee, personally. --- Support Barret Wallace (Final Fantasy VII) for Character Battle IX! http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/3834/banner1barret.jpg |
