How would the predicted timing of the contest be changed if it were 64 games with 12 hour matches? Personally, I'm guessing three days of vote-ins later this week and brackets opening next week, with the contest starting in mid October and ending before Thanksgiving. Although you guys all seem pretty sure about 128 games for some reason.

I wouldn't be surprised if we got a 64 game contest though.

Strange that we'd count a 64 entrant contest as a "side contest" now though, especially if he runs 12 hour matches.

I'd love a 128 12 hour contest, but 64 is fine. 128 is stretching it for games this decade. there are certainly 128 good games that we could get, but not 128 games with legit strength.

Fall 2010 gives me hope that this happens really soon. if it's a 2 month contest and the usual month of bracketmaking, this thing needs to go up, like, today. a two month contest needs to start before Halloween to make it. either way I wouldn't expect a month of noms being closed.

If that format was used, the contest would last for 33 days if we switch to 24 hour matches in the semifinals. So that's 3 24 hour matches. If the switch to 24 hour matches happens with the quarterfinals, the contest would last for 35 days instead. So there's not really any harm in switching over to 24 hour matches for the quarterfinals.

It would be a good idea because it means a much better chance for both FFX vs. Melee/Brawl or Melee/Brawl being 24 hours long. I can't see FFX facing Melee/Brawl or the Melee/Brawl match happening before the quarterfinals.

I'd love a 128 12 hour contest, but 64 is fine. 128 is stretching it for games this decade. there are certainly 128 good games that we could get, but not 128 games with legit strength.

You can say the same thing about the character battle. A 128 just gives us a much better chance on preventing major snubs.

I don't think Bacon likes staying up late to deal with all the whining that'll definitely ensue after the bracket comes out. It always happens. We'll probably get it tomorrow.

This is very true. As soon as he posted the Add/Remove format for the Games Contest, I immediately made a topic for "Add: Sonic 3 & Knuckles; Remove: Sonic 3" and he posted within like 30 seconds with a "Not happening."

It was devastating.
