Of course, in all probability Dark Link will wind up worse compared to Link than any of those clones, because:

1. He's more of a clone than any of those.
2. Link is a more exceptional character to Gamefaqs than any of those.

3. All of those examples except Liquid have their own games.


Also, remember: Dark Link's main appearances are being the surprise final boss in the most hated LoZ-game and a surprise mini-boss in the most hated temple of the series (though it was in LoZ:OoT). Say what you like about how Dark Link looking like Link will help him, but let's not act like the Nintendo-fanbase or particularly the LoZ-fanbase think much of him.

Spare your Epona counter-arguments and let's stick to what Dark Link really brings to the table!

Well, how much does Ganondorf beat Alucard by now? If it's more than 2%, then Ganondorf 60-40's Magus now, and based on Link, Ganondorf looks about as strong as in 2003.

Since 65% on Sam Fisher implies Donkey Kong level.

Which basically means old stats are weird and make no sense.

But 2k3 stats also tell us Donkey Kong = Luigi, which seems about right for Ganondorf now! I dunno, something massive happened to Magus. 35% on Link to 27% on Mario.....even granting 2k7 Mario 43% on 2k3 Link leaves 2k7 Magus doubled by 2k3 Magus. He was overrated, but I dunno about him being supermassively overrated, when he did beat Ganondorf after all.

Tidus probably fell off a huge deal too. 2003 was the year of Square for a reason, and Tidus probably fell a lot worse than most Square characters. Dunno how Tidus/Magus goes now, but Tidus wins comfortably- I gave up on that one after the Alucard match.

I dunno if I agree with that. I think most of Tidus's matches seem to line up with him being at a particular level (pretty much the epitome of "midcard," if you ask me), except for Ganon 2003, really.

But then again, if Ganondorf is at 2003 levels as you say...

Ha, I was just about to mention that Sonic/Tidus match as evidence for him being stronger back then. Of course your comparison with Sonic/Bacondorf doesn't make Tidus 2003 look good, but we can blame Bacondorf.

Well, 2002 Sonic is stronger than 2010 Ganondorf, but didn't Sonic/Tidus have some weird poll glitch where votes weren't being counted for several hours?

But either way, FFX was like 6 months old at the time, so it's understandable that Tidus would be stronger then than at any other time.

And yet he still only got 57% on Claire Redfield, so yeah.

I dunno, 50/50 on Shadow, 43% on Kirby and about the same against Pikachu while narrowly losing to Vivi, 2006 is an SFF wash, not being able to beat the Cube either round (and while getting 35% on Mega Man just like he did in 2004, actually a little better than his 2004 performance since Mega Man was a little weaker that year), 46% on Subby...

They all feel like the same general area.

It only beat Oracle of Ages/Seasons there, and I still wouldn't dare take Zelda 2 to beat OoA/S in a match. Also notice there's no other game in the LoZ-series in that poll (or since then) that plays like Zelda 2. It wasn't a terrible game in hindsight, but the reaction toward it back in the day was strongly negative and I don't think it recovered through time even close to as well as LoZ:MM or LoZ:WW; it's more forgotten than recovered. What's supposed to beat Zelda 2 for this title, one of those newer handheld-LoZ games like Spirit Tracks or something? Handheld-games never held the spotlight like console-games, and those additions to the series still contend for their systems' GotY-polls.

Choosing which Zelda you hate the most is like choosing which of your children you want to kill.

That's excluding the CD-i ones, of course. The most hated Zelda is still going to be pretty damn popular, and it's not like even Zelda 2 is that hated. Hell, it's got quite a few fans.

Of course, the DS games are probably the most hated anyway at this point, but it's not like Zelda 2 would get anti-voted here.

Granted, the Sonic-polls, movie-polls, and some company-polls showing the reverse of what I've said aren't the best examples -- examples are kinda scarce since there aren't many polls about least favorites, actually -- and FF8's a counter-example if you want to go that route. That said, there's nothing particularly dumb about suggesting the least loved game may be the most hated. Do you want to say "least loved" and "most hated" don't have inherent similarities by definition? Synonymous, no, but they've got similar connotations of being the last in line and Zelda 2 sparked its own hate back when it first came out.

Notice all of those LoZ-games aside from the bottom two have made a contest before, too...and since the early years of gaming got some benefits of getting games into the contest because of divisions by era, that looks a little worse for Zelda 2 in that regard. There's also a decent chance we'll finally see LoZ:OoA/S in this contest; though it's not fair to use that against Zelda 2 since it's not eligible here, that WOULD make it the only game in the poll not to make a contest. Not a pretty potential stat.

There may not be many games in the series at the time of that poll, but several others have come out since then -- Twilight Princess, Minish Cap, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks...maybe more. I would still take all of them over Zelda 2, too. It would not beat any LoZ-game aside from maybe Link's Crossbow Training if you believe that should count.


I also haven't heard a counter-example to Zelda 2 being the most hated outside of the CD-i games, which are jokes nearly nobody's played. How about a real counter-example people have played, preferably one that treats itself like a LoZ-game instead of reaching for Link's Crossbow Training? Majora's Mask and Wind Waker seem to have recovered pretty well from the once-crippling hate they garnered and not as much spotlight is on the handheld-games to hate on, so good luck.

Zelda 2's not that bad, I agree. Let's not act like it's a bad idea to think it's the most hated legit LoZ-game though.

Also, to change the subject a bit, SB filed the feedback I sent from my "Name matches you want to see" topic. On top of the link to that topic, I told him SSBB/SSBM was the most requested match-up and mentioned some other matches that were either mentioned a lot or had potential to be really good:

1) Having SSBB/SSBM/FFX/GSC/LoZ:TP/RE4 fight themselves would be top-tier battles (and I mentioned we've already seen LoZ:TP face RE4 and SSBB in BGE2).
2) MGS3/KH1/KH2 would all be close together.
3) Lots of FPS-themed matches were mentioned, and Halo/CoD:MW2/Portal/HL2 should be close together...so a four-pack with them would be pretty cool.
4) Oblivion VS FO3 had a few mentions.
5) Potentially good rematches from BGE2 include GoW/ToS, MP/GTA:VC, and SF4/Persona 4.
6) People are unsure what to expect from Wii Sports.
7) I gave LoZ:WW/LoZ:MM a pretty good push.
8) SMG/MP would be a good deceptively weak battle of former GotY-winners here.

So, uh, keep an eye out and see if any of these come true or not. Hopefully it's a pretty fair selection from the topic.

MW2 vs SMG, i know the CoD4 beat the crap out of SMG, but i want another look at SMG in a fair one on one situation.
I refuse to believe a mario game would be so weak, like Mario RPG is way stronger and i don't think as many people know about that fab game.

Believe it. There is no excuse for Galaxy losing by over 1000 votes to Wind Waker with Twilight Princess in the poll, not to mention losing to a Metroid game, which is infamous for getting SFF'd hard by any other big name Nintendo franchise.

Now I'll give it some benefit of the doubt in a rematch against CoD4 because you can make LFF excuses for it in round 1 since D/P was there, but...It's not going much higher than that.
