I've
been thinking about it, but where would you rank say Mario's power-ups
in the contest (they would be called Fire Mario, Metal Mario, Cape
Mario, Bee Mario...)? IMO Fire Mario would be the closest to regular Mario while everyone else would be a lot weaker. --- Calintares made a whole lot of geolocation x-stats Congrats to Dr. Football for winning the Guru. |

Fire
Mario, Metal Mario, Wing Cap Mario, Cape Mario, Tanooki Mario,
Invincible Mario, etc. would probably all be around the same as normal
Mario. FLUDD Mario is probably a little weaker, but not by much. It'd
have to be something that makes it difficult to tell that it is Mario

The
problem is that a lot of those forms only take place in 1 or 2 games so
it becomes a question on whether or not Mario fans have played all/most
of the main Mario games or that he relies on the united strength of

If people were voting on favorite Mario form, all I know is that Bee Mario and Spring Mario would be terrible. Cape or Tanooki Mario would probably be #1. --- "Spoil it for me. VS Cape/Tanooki is pretty much an issue between whether you want to
kick ass or go to secret spots. I tend to favor the secret spots, but I
still don't know if I could take either the cape or the raccoon-suit

Yeah,
but I don't think being the original Mario power-up really matters

How
would you get a good picture for star Mario? it's either just sparks,
and those don't show up that well, or it's rapidly chaning colours, and
you can't show that on a still picture... Unless GIFs become allowed in contest pics. --- Ours is not to reason why, ours is but to do and die. |

About
Megaman's sprite- Megaman did a huge amount better on Samus in the
sprite round than the next round- went from 47% to 39%, IIRC, which is
just huge. Yoshi explains part of it, but an 8% swing is huge for LFF-
Sephiroth did less to Cloud. Plus, Ganon didn't seem to damage Samus

think Pokemon is helped considerably by the sprite round, but actually
don't think it helps CT much. Crono lost to Vincent in the sprite round
in 2007, and beat him in a normal round in 2008. 54.5% on Auron in 2006
and 55% on Vincent in 2005 also do not seem like such outstanding
performances compared to Crono's other performances in those years.
Frog's claim to sprite round strength is mostly attributable to Solid

yeah, CT's isn't that great either. I think people get that from
Link/Magus 2003, but I can't think of another instance where it helped

I'd
kind of like to see Crono vs. Snake in the sprite round though. Maybe
not, as it's a high-risk, low reward, match- if Crono wins, people just
complain about the sprite round (and fairly so), while if he loses he

I agree, look at all the "clone characters" and none of them are near as strong as the original; Big Boss Zack Fair, Luigi, Liquid Snake (anyone remembered steve's Frog > Solid Snake argument?). Sure if we hold Dark Link to the same standards he'd be strong, but all of those characters have a lot more going for them than being just another clone. pics, this might be random, but am I the only one who suspects that
Crono and Magus's drops can be linked to a fall off in DBZ support? I
know this probably sounds silly, but IMO, both Magus and Crono's
2004/2005 selves would probably 60/40 their current incarnations, while

DBZ was really popular when the Pokemon Anime first started. Those fans
are all over the site right now, so if DBZ had anything to do with

I don't think they've dropped off quite THAT hard. I admit that I'm a little pessimistic with Crono's chances when compared to most, but Magus looked to be around 2004 Kefka levels this year, and Knuckles only got a little under 60% that year. about the DBZ thing. The difference is that people who grew up with
Pokemon are still playing it. No one's watching DBZ anymore. At least I

those other guys. That's interesting- it actually suggests Dark Link could be pretty strong. If we assume Link/Dark Link is proportional to...... Cloud/Zack: Dark Link ends up around 32% on Link, high enough to challenge Sonic. Snake/Big Boss: Hard to say what the Snake/Big Boss gap is, but assuming Snake beats Mario 53-47, that gives Dark Link about 34% on Link. Snake/Liquid: No idea where Liquid is now.....but going by 2004/5, before Solid shot up meteorically from Brawl, Dark Link probably ends up around a minimum of 35% on Link. Mario/Luigi: This would make Dark Link the favorite against the lower Noble Nine, and give him a shot at MM and Mario, depending on where you think all those guys are. Luigi isn't really a clone though. Mario/Wario: Even this still gives Dark Link north of 30% on Link, making him a near-elite. Of course, in all probability Dark Link will wind up worse compared to Link than any of those clones, because: 1. He's more of a clone than any of those. 2. can believe that Magus loses 60-40 to his 2003/4 self. Would he lose to
Ganondorf 60-40 now? Ganon is probably weaker now than at any point
since 2003, and if I had to guess, I'd say he's weaker than in 2003
too. Crono is a different story though- think his trajectory has been

Magus
2003 was as strong as Ganondorf, who beat Alucard with 57% the next
year after the major Zelda boost in 2004. But it does make sense that
Magus would fall apart so much worse than Crono and Frog. Magus is the
kind of character you think is deep and wonderful as a teenager- sort
of like Sephiroth. Crono does not appear to be so great a character at
the surface, but in fact he is perfection in fictional characters
incarnate.....er......he's a good character who builds a ton of
