Exactly
one week after nominations were opened up, we are at 32384 nominations.
At that rate, it would likely take around 3 more weeks to reach 100000
nominations, and that considers the fact that there won't be as many
nominations coming in now as there were a few days ago I don't expect nominations to remain open for a whole month. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as Dr_Football, Guru Champ! |

So, uh, what snub do we expect the most from this contest? Do you think a remake could be the strongest newcomer? --- http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/3492/eponaharr.jpg Nominate EPONA here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/55150177 |

What snubs from the last contest are even eligible for this contest? Heck, I'm having a hard time thinking of a worthwhile snub from the last one other than SSB. --- "Spoil it for me. DMC games! --- Nyuu~ |
LeonhartFour | Posted 9/8/2010 3:54:21 PM | message detail |
Oh right. I don't think any DMC games will do any better than GoW1 did. --- "The great GF...Bahamut." "...GF? I...? Using my powers...It is you humans...I fear..." |
voltch | Posted 9/8/2010 3:56:57 PM | message detail |
But it's like the japanese version of GoW! --- Uguu~ |
charmander6000 | Posted 9/8/2010 3:59:00 PM | message detail |
I would laugh if a DMC fails to reach the bracket. As for other snubs, Mario Kart series and Wii Sports are also potential snubs though I don't expect much from Wii Sports. I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of Gamecube games failed to reach the bracket like Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion and Pikmin. --- Calintares made a whole lot of geolocation x-stats Congrats to Dr. Football for winning the Guru. |
LeonhartFour | Posted 9/8/2010 4:05:04 PM | message detail |
Eh,
Mario Kart games after 64 don't strike me as potentially strong games.
MKDS, maybe, but that's just barely stronger than GoW1 based on the
2005 GOTY, if you want to go that route. --- "But you have been given freedom. Freedom to be...outside." "I am lightning...the rain transformed." |
voltch | Posted 9/8/2010 4:05:54 PM | message detail |
if it's 128, we can look forward to seeing baten kaitos making it. So like Killer7 and Eternal Darkness fodder? --- Hau hauu, omochi kaeri! |
HaRRicH | Posted 9/8/2010 4:27:28 PM | message detail |
I hope those Gamecube games make it, but I kinda doubt any of them do. I sure like to think there is strength somewhere in the DMC-series because Dante's strong, multiple characters from the series has made a contest and won at least one match, and the DMC-series made it into the Series Contest...but no evidence we have game-wise shows much hope for Dante's games. Okay, so we're establishing we don't have a lot of faith in the traditional snubs. Would you guys take Pokemon FireRed, Super Mario 64 DS, Chrono Trigger DS, the GBA-version of LoZ:LttP...any of them to beat any original snub? --- http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/3492/eponaharr.jpg Nominate EPONA here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/55150177 |

Okay,
so we're establishing we don't have a lot of faith in the traditional
snubs. Would you guys take Pokemon FireRed, Super Mario 64 DS, Chrono
Trigger DS, the GBA-version of LoZ:LttP...any of them to beat any
original snub? Probably- snubs typically aren't very strong. It also depends on how the semi-remakes are listed in the poll. "Chrono Trigger" will perform a lot better than "Chrono Trigger DS." --- Crono > Sephiroth. 7 years of waiting, and perhaps many more to go. Remain steadfast. |
MarioSuperstar | Posted 9/8/2010 5:49:14 PM | message detail |
DMC might have some strength but I wouldn't take it over GoW1 which isn't saying a lot. Not to mention that it doesn't have the 'same name as main character" bonus that Kirby and Metroid get. Ouch. --- *is Dranze* Krahen Prophet did a fatality. |

Starcraft,
although it isn't really strong anymore, and may not ever have been
strong. But at the least it's a lot lot lot stronger than fodder
Kerrigan. --- Crono > Sephiroth. 7 years of waiting, and perhaps many more to go. Remain steadfast. |
LeonhartFour | Posted 9/8/2010 7:59:27 PM | message detail |
I thought about naming StarCraft, but I don't know if I'd consider it a "strong game," and it may not ever have been, so yeah. Although Final Fantasy Tactics would have qualified back in 2004. --- "Why must we always choose between certain death and probable death?" 40% against MGS3 was pretty good and based on last round it may have underperformed slightly (or it overperformed in round 1) A lot better than what Kratos/Lloyd could do. --- Calintares made a whole lot of geolocation x-stats Congrats to Dr. Football for winning the Guru. |

Charizard is strong as hell --- Good Times, Great Memories |
LeonhartFour | Posted 9/8/2010 8:15:40 PM | message detail |
From: charmander6000 | #384 After Pikachu and the 'Zard? That's pushing it a little far. Not sure FFIV's really all that strong. --- "So cold. I am always by your side." "There ain't no gettin' off of this train we on!" |

Yeah, FFVI didn't look all that strong. Cecil didn't look so bad either in the last contest. RBY could work. Charizard is strong, but he's not close to being top 3 in strength. --- Crono > Sephiroth. 7 years of waiting, and perhaps many more to go. Remain steadfast. |
red sox 777 | Posted 9/8/2010 8:17:26 PM | message detail |
Er, I meant to say FFIV there. --- Crono > Sephiroth. 7 years of waiting, and perhaps many more to go. Remain steadfast. |

From: UltimaterializerX | #387 ...The game that lost to the original Ninja Gaiden? And how does RBY work? I didn't say the strength level had to be proportional! --- "Stay with me until the end. Please." "Not until the end. Always." |
charmander6000 | Posted 9/8/2010 8:19:17 PM | message detail |
Charizard is strong as hell Not Noble Nine strong. RBY is a potential top 3 game. Not sure FFIV's really all that strong. If you believe FFIV > FF indirectly then it is. Final Fantasy did get 45% on Super Mario World. --- Calintares made a whole lot of geolocation x-stats Congrats to Dr. Football for winning the Guru. |
red sox 777 | Posted 9/8/2010 8:20:07 PM | message detail |
I think it's clear that the 45% in round 1 was not indicative of the FF1's true strength. --- Crono > Sephiroth. 7 years of waiting, and perhaps many more to go. Remain steadfast. |
AppreciateTrees | Posted 9/8/2010 8:20:27 PM | message detail |
Starcraft,
although it isn't really strong anymore, and may not ever have been
strong. But at the least it's a lot lot lot stronger than fodder
Kerrigan. Well, Starcraft came out in 1998 anyways..But I think SCII would have given it a decent boost. |
LeonhartFour | Posted 9/8/2010 8:21:10 PM | message detail |
From: charmander6000 | #391 Man, I'm not sure FFVI could get 45% on Mario World. That first round was a fluke. --- "I couldn't stand a day without a past or future. I need to live each moment to keep fighting here and now." |
XxSoulxX | Posted 9/8/2010 8:21:20 PM | message detail |
Not Noble Nine strong. RBY is a potential top 3 game. So only the noble nine is considered strong? And I would argue that since Mario only got like 54% on it (if I remembering this correctly). That's NN levels to me! --- Good Times, Great Memories |
charmander6000 | Posted 9/8/2010 8:21:44 PM | message detail |
I think it's clear that the 45% in round 1 was not indicative of the FF1's true strength. Why not? It's almost exactly what 2k4 predicted coincidentally. --- Calintares made a whole lot of geolocation x-stats Congrats to Dr. Football for winning the Guru. |
LeonhartFour | Posted 9/8/2010 8:22:24 PM | message detail |
From: charmander6000 | #396 You know what 2004 didn't predict? Mario World > Mario 3 --- "Stay with me until the end. Please." "Not until the end. Always." |
charmander6000 | Posted 9/8/2010 8:23:18 PM | message detail |
And I would argue that since Mario only got like 54% on it (if I remembering this correctly). That's NN levels to me! Remember when Bowser got 49% against Solid Snake? Charizard was pretty much the Starcraft/L-Block/2k2Mario in that contest. --- Calintares made a whole lot of geolocation x-stats Congrats to Dr. Football for winning the Guru. |
red sox 777 | Posted 9/8/2010 8:23:19 PM | message detail |
Borderline/Bottom
of the Noble Nine isn't close to #3, where RBY is at. Though yeah, it's
not a huge huge difference, so RBY is a stretch in this discussion. --- Crono > Sephiroth. 7 years of waiting, and perhaps many more to go. Remain steadfast. |
LeonhartFour | Posted 9/8/2010 8:24:03 PM | message detail |
Again, I never said anything about strength levels being proportional, otherwise all sorts of things would apply! Strong games, strong characters! That's all! We consider near elites "strong." Charizard's a near elite, so RBY doesn't apply! --- Support Morrigan Aensland (Darkstalkers) for Character Battle IX! http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/9302/banner5morrigan2.jpg |
