Kinda
doubt that. It's a multiplayer game, and as far as those go, it'll be
near the bottom of the N64 ladder. Goldeneye kills MK64 which kills
Star Fox 64 which would kill something like Diddy Kong Racing which
would kill No Mercy. Tough to climb out of the fodder muck from there. I'm not even sure if it's the most popular pro wrestling game for the console. WCW had two games that were well received and available a few years earlier on the console. No Mercy came out after Majora's Mask; the system was dead by then. --- Yoblazer: http://i32.tinypic.com/zlf1w7.gif Watch and you'll see... some day I'll be... part of your world! |

If No Mercy isn't the most popular N64 wrestling game, it'd be Wrestlemania 2000. http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=31 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=38 Clearly from this we can extrapolate to show that Wrestlemania 2000 would have a shot at beating FFX. Look at that % on RBY - RB. AND Wrestlemania 2000 came out in 2000 in Japan, which should make it eligible! --- http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh293/zukiraphaera/war-sig-1.png Nominate Ogre Battle 64 for the Game of the Decade contest! |

WWF No Mercy has the advantage of being an N64 game. That 32/64 generation is very strong- even Mario Kart 64 got 30% on FFVII. --- Crono > Sephiroth. 7 years of waiting, and perhaps many more to go. Remain steadfast. |

I agree with Bacon's reasoning of keeping it all on the same continent. It could take game years to reach the entire globe. For example it took until 2007 before GTA: San Andreas came to Japan. --- Calintares made a whole lot of geolocation x-stats Congrats to Dr. Football for winning the Guru. |

WWF No Mercy has the advantage of being an N64 game. That 32/64 generation is very strong- even Mario Kart 64 got 30% on FFVII. I agree plus the game was rather enjoyed by the masses (not as much as other N64 games, but it was at least known), I would be shocked if the game ended up being terrible fodder. --- Calintares made a whole lot of geolocation x-stats Congrats to Dr. Football for winning the Guru. |

Reverses a rematch with Charizard, definitely...ahem. It's going to be very kind to him as long as the game's true to his style and people are happy with it. The industry has moved back to FPS-games and the internet will probably love this long-legendary game. People seem to like the demo, and I'm betting Gearbox markets it big. With Solid Snake and Kratos retiring from their series nowadays, this is Duke's chance to become gaming's biggest bad-ass again. There is a newfound excitement for him that we probably haven't seen in a character since Solid Snake was announced for SSBB...and hey, they're both caused by major surprise-releases at gaming events, too. I'm not going to suggest that kind of boost right now, but there's no doubt hype out. Thanks for reminding me to nominate Civ 4! DNF's release can only help Duke. Of course, we still have to wait for DNF to, you know, get released. Hell, depending on the releases coming up next year, I could see DNF making it far in the GotY poll. It won't beat Skyward Sword, but if it's lucky it could win Multiplatform. Hell, depending on the releases coming up next year, I could see DNF making it far in the GotY poll. It won't beat Skyward Sword I wouldn't be too sure on Skyward Sword. If a game like New Super Mario Bros. Wii couldn't win GotY last year, there is still a possible chance that Skyward Sword won't win GotY for next year. Just because Legend of Zelda is Nintendo's top franchise doesn't mean that every single major console release for that franchise will be an automatic GotY on this site. If Zelda is good, it should win GOTY based on name alone. It doesn't have to be considered great
either, just so long as there isn't backlash. If it gets a FFXIII-esque
reception or worse, though, I wouldn't be so sure. It's Zelda, but
voters will throw their support behind something popular that has
significantly better critical acclaim. It's why I doubt FFXIII will
make any noise in those GOTY polls. Duke Nukem -- I doubt this game is even good! --- There are no foreign lands. It is the traveler only who is foreign. |

Wind Waker won GotY. Let that sink into your minds for awhile. In the meantime, the hype for Skyward Sword hasn't been nearly as intense as the TP hype, probably because everyone learned their lesson from the TP and Brawl hype-trains. While that means SS won't be as huge as those two, that also means less potential backlash. As long as the game gets a good reception, and it will because it's ****ing Zelda and even its worst non-CDi games are damn solid, it should be a lock for GotY. But good point on Portal 2. I think DNF could trump it if it hits all the right notes, but Portal 2 should be the favorite for now because, well, it's Portal ****ing 2. --- Wylvane RustyMrSaturn is a horrible user. |

To
be fair on LoZ:WW, it's biggest competition was FFX-2 and SW:KotOR. It
was a relatively weak year where the two big series made games that
caught a lot of hate, and Bioware wasn't big enough to capitalize. Anyway though, LoZ has a hell of a track-record here, so LoZ:SS's going to be in good shape if it delivers. If we're looking at the major games for their GotY-records and BGE-appearances (all of which has been questioned on whether or not they actually "deliver")... LoZ:MM (no GotY-polls are available for 2000; looking at older polls, FF9 probably had its number...still should be a respectable second place though) BGE2 - ~35% on Pokemon RBY despite two Rare-N64 games, ~39.5% on MGS despite RBY and GS. LoZ:WW http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1486 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1491 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1492 BGE1 - killed Skies of Arcadia, beat Metroid Prime, controversial loss to Starcraft. BGE2 - smashed Disgaea despite SSBM and Fire Emblem, beat Halo despite SSBM. LoZ:TP http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2620 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2625 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2629 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2630 BGE2 - smashed HL2, beat RE4 three times in a row, won 2004-2006 division, wasn't far from MGS4 despite SSBB. All that, plus LoZ:OoT and LoZ:LttP were the #2 and #4 games in BGE1 while becoming the #1 and arguably #3 games (respectively) in BGE2...PLUS I doubt LoZ's lost its grip on the #1 series here since 2006's contest. That's killer, and if LoZ:SS delivers at all then it's got a fine shot at GotY. That's not to say it works for every LoZ-game; LoZ: Four Swords Adventure didn't do well at all... http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1870 ...but for the most part, even the handheld-games do well enough here... http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=771 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=776 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2244 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2253 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2983 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2993 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3715 ...not to mention LoZ:LA impressed in BGE2, too. Maybe these "hardcore gamers" are getting mad about the Wii here lately, but remember that it was a LoZ-game that sold many of them on the Wii in the first place...so I wouldn't rule out LoZ:SS getting a lot of them back if it's good. It's the game to beat next year until further notice. --- http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/3492/eponaharr.jpg Nominate EPONA here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/55150177 |

know what LoZ:SS's biggest problem probably will be, too? Dealing with
the 3D-remake of LoZ:OoT in the overall-GotY poll next year. If LoZ:SS

Not sure if Majora's Mask would have won it too, because there were no GotY polls for 2000. That's not to say it works for every LoZ-game; LoZ: Four Swords Adventure didn't do well at all... ...but for the most part, even the handheld-games do well enough here... But
comparing the Zelda series to the Mario series nowadays is just a
mistake. We saw how badly Galaxy did in the last Games Contest, and
NSMBWii wasn't even going to be that popular. I'd be pretty surprised if Skyward Sword ended up weaker than Wind Waker or Majora's Mask. --- "I can set you free, mate." "My freedom was forfeit long ago!" |

Sword hype may not be off the charts for now, but I don't think SMG2's

Duke
Nukem Forever poll today. Still surprised that most people believe that
it will never be released. Of course, the game was announced at PAX,
which is a lesser known game conference and doesn't have half the
importance that E3 has when it comes to the game industry. If this game
were announced at E3, "No, I still don't believe it will ever be
released" would not even be in first place today. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as Dr_Football, Guru Champ! |

I
tried submitting a Skyward Sword related poll (and helpful to us,
because it's basically a poll of asking which minor character you want
more of) a few days ago. It was read, so... don't know if anything will
become of it. Certainly would be a more interesting poll than the ones
we've gotten lately. --- :> |

From: -LusterSoldier- | #348 I really doubt that. There are a LOT of people who just will not believe Duke Nukem Forever is really coming out until they hold it in their hands. You could have each major company hold a conference about it at E3, and you would still have many people doubt it... ...plus, it not coming out is the joke when it comes to DNF. Not voting for that means not voting for the very thing it's been associated with since 1997 (I think). I didn't vote for that option, but I was tempted...and seeing it win this poll is hardly surprising. --- http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/3492/eponaharr.jpg Nominate EPONA here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/55150177 |
