I hope remakes (ok, slightly modified ports) are allowed though. Nothing would make it clearer to Bacon that his assumption that older games would get annihilated by newer ones and so we need generational divisions, than CT and LTTP meeting in the finals.

On a certain level, I wouldn't mind that result in order to make that point about Older Games v New Games, but I think it probably creates more of a mess than it would help. Either way, I'm fairly sure it wouldn't matter and that even if CT and LttP have sufficient nominations that they'd make the field, they'll be disqualified by Bacon when he's putting together the bracket.

Besides, we could almost achieve the same result if a post-contest "gauntlet" also included LttP v Contest Winner before FFVII and OoT, although justifying it would be hard to do. The best I could come up with is that it's the only remaining game from the OoT/FFVII/LttP/FFX final that isn't included in some form (FFX being excluded because it meets the requirements for the actual contest, obviously.)

I wouldn't expect that though.

64 is probably a good number. I wouldn't mind 128, but especially with reduced scope by cutting off everything pre-2000, that'd just end up with having so much fodder that I'd probably regret saying I don't mind it.

I think 32 would be too small though, even if 64 would be susceptible to fodder.

You can justify putting CT in the post-contest gauntlet by saying it was the runner-up in 2004. Eh, it's probably better if CT, LTTP, SM64, SMW, SMB3, and FFVI aren't in the contest, I suppose. I'm just upset because the vast majority of my favorite games are from the 90s.

Well, MGS4 beat RE4 while MGS3 lost to it, so that's why I have it higher.

My guess is that FFX will be the overall bracket favorite, thanks to it dominating past Game of the Decade polls thanks to Nintendo LFF. Plus, it has the Final Fantasy name, was in last year's finals, and Smash didn't seem to get all that much bracket support in the Games Contest last year.

Is Super Mario 64 DS eligible? It's significantly different from the original, with four playable characters, 150 stars, brand new stages and layouts, etc.

Of course, the DS version may bomb just because it had horrible controls. Still, it was a DS launch title and a redo of a potential Top 10 game here, so I think it'd be a great choice. It'll be a nice wild card, at any rate.

SM64 DS is nommable, like CTDS and LTTP GBA. It shows up on the list of games with the DS console and the year 2004 or 2005, not 1996. Not sure what Bacon will do if it gets enough noms to make the contest.

I'm still leaning no, because by allowing, Bacon will open up a potential nightmare in trying to decide just how much change is required to move something from ineligible to eligible. Though, obviously, I'm not sure if it really will be eligible, could be that it is, but I'd be very surprised.

I doubt this will be a sixty-four entry contest. We had fifty-four eligible games in BGE2 just last year, not counting games that were Add/Remove'd out like Golden Sun and The World Ends With You...or games that were in BGE1 like Skies of Arcadia, FFTA, and Shenmue...or games that were snubbed from both contests like the GH/RB/DMC/Wii/Katamari-series and probably more...

...and yeah, we'd end up getting fodder, but look at it like this: we could add every game that ever made the overall-GotY poll of each year yet still need more games if we did a 128-entry bracket. I'm sure all of the important games from those polls will make it in, and the least important ones (hello, Resistance) will be replaced by more important games (hello, MGS3). If we have vote-ins, that'll help cut down on the fodder that gets in too.


It'll be fun to see how this all goes down.

I saw Bacon's topic and on first instinct I thought this was like the "Top 100 Games" contest, but then I checked again and this will indeed be a bracket. Yes!

So, will this be 32-game or 64-game? If it's 64, we'll be getting a lot of fodder which could make this brutally difficult! I'd imagine it's 64 because we can nominate 15 games. I think I'm going to do horrible on this. I've been less involved in video games the last 2 or 3 years.

Lessee... I know I'm nominating Phoenix Wright..... oh, and Pokemon GSC! It could be a force to be reckoned with. What if it increased in popularity even more since the game contest 18 months ago? GSC for the championship! Actually, it would have like no chance against the top contenders... or at least, I don't think. I'll be open-minded.

Oh, and maybe GSC will be boosted in strength due to RBY's absence. No, of course! It will still win it all!

Oh, wait... I forgot an even more legit reason! Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver! Hmmmm....maybe it has a small shot after all....

Every contest, I make a topic asking people what matches they want to see then send it to SB(/CJay) with a little summary-topipc of the most popular things. While I have nothing for sure about whether or not it really works, I like to think some examples of it working includes Squall/Auron, Hayabusa/MC, and the Luigi/Kirby/Zero four-pack from back when the Rad Action Pack was relevant to us!

So, uh, mention some stuff there. I'll link SB to it in a few days and explain the highlights. Hope for the best from there!

Fun-fact: we're coming up on GameFAQs's fifteen-year anniversary. I think the official date of it is November 5th, though confirmation would be nice. Should the contest only be a month-long one, I'd expect it to end on that day; the Top 100 List ended on it, and it'd give us a little over a month for nominations and bracket-making.

If it's going to last two months though, who knows if that anniversary will affect the contest or its timing any.
