Why is this hard to believe? Ratchet got nearly 70% on bottom of the barrel fodder, and it's not like people who didn't play Borderlands were going to spend time trying to distinguish whether Claptrap was awful fodder or just regular fodder.

Few people expected Ratchet to get anywhere near 70% on Eddie Riggs though. It was expected to assume Claptrap to be fodder (and he was), but Zidane doesn't get 70% on fodder, he's low midcard at best after all.

YGO finished third in the 2007 poll as well, but that was a dead heat whereas this one looks like a stronger third place finish. The Silent Hill series has basically been dead for a good five years, so I can't be too shocked.

There was a Yu-Gi-Oh manga that had nothing to do with Children's Card Games until like chapter 7 and then the card games became so popular that they just swung the entire focus onto them

Excuse me for being a Yugioh fan. The manga came first, then the card game. Funnily enough though, certain monsters(Like the blue eyes ultimate dragon) appeared in games before appearing as either cards or in the manga/anime. So they are technically okay to nominate.

The anime/manga came before the card game was released over here. I remember when the show first started airing over here way back in 2001. Next year in 2002 was when the first card sets were released and you could start buying the actual cards.

Man I have to admit Yu-Gi-Oh is still a lot of fun. I hadn't touched my cards since I was like 12 but my girlfriend's brother wanted to play me last week and I actually beat him somehow even though I don't really remember the rules that well. It was quite fun.

Haven't touched my real cards in a long time too. Game is too expensive to keep up with.
I only play online, much easier. The program that plays online(the yvd) is easy to use and all, so it's all good.

...Also, related nomination relevant news:
Kaiba and Yugi have "historical alter egos" that have ALMOST the same name and ALMOST the same art, but different backstories that appeared in certain games like the falsebound kingdom.

...That's technically legal, I think.

This time around, GameSpot will be doing a "All Time Greatest Game Villain" contest. This was just announced yesterday based on what I read on the forum. Thursday Aug 30 - Round 1b
Monday Sep 2 - Round 2
Thursday Sep 7 - Sinister 16
Tuesday Sep 10 - Evil Eight
Friday Sep 14 - Fearsome Four
Monday Sep 17 - Final Battle

Oh yeah, lol at the fact they messed up the days. August 30th is a Monday, not a Thursday. The other dates are messed up as well. Well, looks like each round in this contest will not be one week long like last time. They shortened the rounds a little bit. No round will last for more than 5 days, although I have no idea how long the final round will last.

GameSpot's contests are not like our contests at all. With GameSpot's contests, the entrants are chosen by the GameSpot staff. In last year's GameSpot contest, there was a vote-in to determine the final 10 characters to be included in the contest. The upcoming contest will also have a vote-in as well.

I also "love" how weak our general field was for the Villain Contest in 2005, yet they're going for twice as many. I mean, they have several of our female villain favorites in there! Mother Brain's returned, Carmen Sandiego/GlaDOS/Kerrigan are returning (though they missed the VC), and Gruntilda's debuting! Just add the Dark Queen from Battletoads and I think that covers everyone...

...this is going to be ugly. If they didn't allow Shredder and Vader in, this would be the most pitiful field of sixty-four characters we've ever seen. Even with them, this is probably still true.
