~*Simple Explanation of Extrapolated Standings*~
A = Strongest Character
B = Character Weaker than A
C = Character Weaker than B
To figure out a character's Xsts Percentage ---> [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
To compare how C would do against B ---> [(CvA)/(BvA)]*50 = CvB
To figure out how B would do against A ---> [(CvA)/(CvB)]*50 = BvA

~*Say What? Common Stats Topic Lingo Defined*~

SFF (Same Fanbase Factor) - Same Fanbase Factor is the theory that, if two contestants share a common fanbase, the weaker of the two options will underperform in a direct matchup. For instance, Link was expected to defeat Ganon with 65% of the vote in 2004, based on their 2003 values. Instead, Link collected near 88% of the vote. This is the best example of SFF we've ever seen. However take some SFF labels with a grain of salt, as many people will slap it onto any match that doesn't make perfect sense.

Extrapolated Standings - The mathematical "strength" of a contestant that's determined based on their performance relative to the rest of the field. This number is typically based on the contest entrant's loss, but adjustments are sometimes made. See above for a watered down explanation for how the stats are calculated.

Noble Nine - Link, Cloud, Solid Snake, Sephiroth, Mario, Crono, Sonic, Samus and Mega Man.

Mario has no chance to survive against Cloud, though he is a much better villain than Sephiroth, who could never snuff out dreams and hopes with ruthless efficiency and utter shamelessness like Mario could. Besides, Sephiroth never plays dirty, but always precedes any action with an hour of monologue giving his opponent ample opportunity to take unfair advantage.

The eternal struggle begins between "Yes, it's over 90 where I live (32C)" and "It's okay, it's close to 80 degrees (27C)". "Yes, it's over 90 where I live (32C)" just got cut for the first time at 2:20 AM. Right now, "Yes, it's over 90 where I live (32C)" is up to a 1532 vote lead on "It's okay, it's close to 80 degrees (27C)" and it doesn't seem like it will rise much more than that.

But watching "Yes, it's over 90 where I live (32C)" drop like crazy in percentage is amusing to see. I just wasn't expecting it to happen so early (before the end of the first hour), compared to the Soda poll where it wasn't until after 2:00 AM where Soda really began its epic collapse.

The Night Vote for this poll depends more on how late night American voters will vote in a poll like this, rather than the influence of the European voters on this poll. I wasn't sure if late night American voters would vote based on the current temperature at the moment, or based on what the high temperature of the day has been in their area lately.

I voted for "Yes, it's over 90 where I live (32C)" at the start of this poll, since the high temperature of the day in my area is close to 90 degrees. If I had voted late at night when the temperature would have been around 70 degrees instead, I still would have voted for "Yes, it's over 90 where I live (32C)" despite the temperature being around 70 at the moment. If the majority of late night American voters would have used the same logic as me when voting, the trends here won't be as extreme as I might be expecting. I will track poll updates for the US as well, to see how the percentages change over the course of the entire poll.

Poll updates for the temperature poll:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=t0xI5Qmsru8FiZz9L0Beyow

I think that poll is a good example of where a Canadian ASV is pretty obvious to see. At least in the hourly trends. The "Around 80 degrees" option drops off hard after 6:00 PM because the Canadian ASV is wearing off. In the updates, "Around 90 degrees" has difficulty trying to go up in percentage during the ASV, because of how "Around 80 degrees" is easily dominating Canada.

Activision/Blizzard's the only option with two huge companies combining forces, plus they're behind some of the most popular (and polarizing) games of the past decade. Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, World of Warcraft...while sequels for Starcraft and Diablo 2 are in the works? Hate their CEO or games all you want, but that's a powerful duo in the industry and it's not like they don't have any pull here either.

Can't that option technically add Bungie to their merger nowadays, too? I understand they struck a deal recently (though it's nothing involving the Halo series) and couldn't have hurt them any worse in this poll than their own reputation has done.

I'm sure Canadian schools haven't gotten off for summer vacation just yet. Almost all American schools have reached the end of their school year already. The poll from 2 days ago was about the only chance I would have to see if this "Canadian ASV" really does exist, as it has been mentioned a few times last contest, mostly on matches that take place on the day of an American holiday.

It's not that I'm interested in. I'm tracking poll updates so I can watch the extreme trend changes. I figured North America would be over 80% at the freeze, but I didn't think it would be threatening 90% this early. It will drop a lot overnight.

Let's see if Europe can win a single update overnight. The best case scenario for Europe to win a single update is to do it between 5:00 AM and 7:00 AM.

According to the last poll roughly 15% of the people are from Europe, but to think it would be at 6-7% is over ambitious. I wake up early, but even I don't think 40% of people are awake at 6:40am (or 5:40 in the United Kingdom). IIRC in an earlier poll only roughly 5% of Europeans vote when the poll is updated.

Maybe so, but I don't see any way it gets anywhere near 15% when its struggling to hit 2% with the first hour. That would take a massive swing.

I'd post stats, but we might as well wait until the end. I'll just say that 0.78% of Arizona voters so far put "South America", while the rest put "North America". Come on guys, don't you known the southern US is NOT South America?!

Europe has finally overtaken Asia a few minutes ago. Only about another 15 or 20 minutes before Europe overtakes Oceania. On the update that Europe overtook Asia, it had a 18.43% update. That's Europe's best update so far. I'm expecting 20-25% updates from Europe before the end of this hour. Next hour, Europe will be getting 25-35% updates.

Then in the 5:00-6:00 AM hour (last hour of the Night Vote), Europe will pound out 45% updates and win an update over North America. Success! Okay, so I don't expect that to happen, but seeing Europe win an update over North America would be awesome.
