Been there, done that. I love his ability to be both accurate with his criticisms about the later games while being a whiny douche about it and ignoring their good aspects as well. It's like for each new FF game he comes in preemptively hating it. His earlier ramblings are like half unrelated bull**** while his later ramblings are half *****ing about how new FF games aren't as good as old FF games. I could probably come up with more material but I'm lazy. --- Not Wylvane Dr Football Factor'd. |

Halo:
CE was the right game at the right time. Brought some more open-field
battles, some smart AI, cinematic storytelling, incredible graphics for
the time, awesome soundtrack, two weapon system, vehicular combat,
regenerating health, and a huge jump in LAN parties all in one package
to console gamers. I don't think it holds up that well with the
repetitive level design now though. Halo 3 has my favorite of the campaigns. More variety in weapons, enemies and set piece battles, plus 4-player co-op and arcade/skulls. Few experiences better than you and three friends storming towards the Covenant fortress with your two Scorpion tanks, blowing away everything with that great O'Donnell score. Good times ^_^ Tis a shame it follows one of the best FPS levels I've ever played(the Covenant) with one of the worst(Cortana). --- "if only there were some way I could have sex" - Smartmuffin |

LAN
parties are the only new thing Halo brought to the table, and I'm sure
an argument could be made PCs did that years prior. Regenerating health
is just stupid, but that's only one guy's opinion. Hated it in Halo,
hated it in MGS3/4. If I suck at a game, let me die. Stop not punishing
me for being bad. --- `·.,¸¸,.·´¯`·.,¸¸,.·´¯`·.,¸¸,.~*ST*~.,¸¸,.·´¯`·.,¸¸,.·´`·.,¸¸,.·´ "You are the king of derailing topics." -Lucid |

My
only real issue with Pat is how he contradicts himself a lot. Like in
the FF9 writeup, he devoted a ton of time to how cool it is when Square
puts in homages to older games in the series. Then for FF13, he whines
about those homages. --- "There are no fingerprints deep under water, nothing to tie one to a crime And if you seek vengeance, all you need are instruments of pain." -Dethklok |

Halo's
a solid series (having only extensively played the first two games),
but I never got into it like many of my other friends. What I could use
some help understanding is how Modern Warfare so easily took the
FPS-crown from Halo in 2007. --- Nominate EPONA for Character Battle 9: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=8&topic=54225515 |

CoD
have some solid 4-hour campaign modes, but they have zero replay value,
due to the nature of its tin-duck shooting gallery enemies, the "get
past the invisible line for enemies to stop spawning" level design, and
all the cutscenes are integrated into the game(so even when you just
wanna shot up some folks, you gotta sit through it). There's often only
one route through the entire level, and its easy to see the strings
pulling this whole puppet show together. Multiplayer ****ing sucks though. I like the idea of gaining xp and weapons/levels/perks, but the actual gameplay is terrible. It all comes down to who sees who first, you shoot them for 1.5 seconds, and then keep going, you respawn whoops instantly killed by spawn camper do the God awful spawning placement, run around guy sees you first shoots you in 1.5 seconds, respawn again. It doesn't really matter what weapon you pick up, they all essentially do the same damn thing. In Halo, I have a lot of memorable kills and battles; sticky a guy on his balls before he blew up my team's Warthog, walking into a room and clearing out the whole team with flag melees, being invisible and jump sitting in the corner of opposite team the whole game just to hear their conversations(thanks Social Slayer!). What do I remember about CoD? I ran up a corner, I saw a guy and shot him for 2 seconds. I kept running and then I got killed by a body shot sniper. Rinse and repeat. --- The day Dr. Footballl blessed us with his presence was the greatest day of our lives But for him, it was Tuesday |

Halo
is fun and well made. I think it's the next step for multiplayer
console gaming, or rather, it was at the time. Before that it was
mostly Mario Kart or Goldeneye, and Halo wipes out Goldeneye pretty
handily, say what you want about being a fan of GE007. In terms of "this is a good game", it doesn't matter who did what first, especially when the steps are logical and obvious. Halo was a good FPS game that had terrific multiplayer, both PvP and co-op, and it came out during a time where good FPS games weren't really in abundance on consoles. And the Xbox controller, OK maybe the S version, was great for console FPS gaming. The original Halo succeeded on its own merits. Word of mouth carried this game, people visiting a friend who had an Xbox learned to really like it, etc. --- Donny: Are they gonna hurt us, Walter? Walter: No, Donny. These men are cowards. |

Should
be Brawl because it's better for parties than Melee due to being
slightly more accessibly (SSBM's lightning speed damn you). For what it's worth my opinion on Brawl vs. Melee is essentially the same as CrappyCaptureDevice's: I like Brawl more due to having more content including a more whacky cast of playable characters, and I play Melee occasionally but I find it plays at lightning speed for me. Also the AI and singleplayer are better in Brawl. That's from actually playing both games, d'oh. *don't give me any crap for the next part of this post* Also it seems that most critics who didn't like Melee liked Brawl. For instance Edge Magazine gave Melee a 6/10 (with the fast pacing rendering the game nearly unplayable according to the review), and gave Brawl a 9/10 (for fixing that criticism). |

For
what it's worth I don't think Melee is a bad game at all. It just isn't
nearly as good as people like Ulti make it out to be. Same true with both Twilight Princess and Brawl. Not exactly best game ever material, but closer to that than they are to being terrible IMO. The way I think about it it's nice to see people who like both games just to silence the haters. |

A search function and some better formatting would be ingenious, but doing that work on ten pages of ~900 topics would be kind of a nightmare, so I'd understand the current format being left alone. Though some CSS work could probably make better formatting trivial, but then I've only worked a little bit with it so hell if I know if you can translate the way GameFAQs saves pages into something easier to work with and read. --- Not Wylvane Dr Football Factor'd. |

No
console has really been a failure this generation, unlike the Xbox and
GameCube of last gen. That, along with the increasing stupidity of
American teens, will likely lead to this generation just drawing out
and not advancing. Really though, I can't imagine how the 8th gen is going to be. |

All
three consoles are running strong at this point, and Microsoft and Sony
still have tricks up their sleeves for their consoles (Natal,
Lollipop), while Nintendo probably wouldn't want to announce both the
3DS and the Wii's successor in the same E3. I think the next gen will be delayed a couple of years. We may finally see info next year, but who knows at this point. --- Not Wylvane Dr Football Factor'd. |

Quite
frankly I could understand that happening better at another site,
because from what I've seen games like BioShock, Call of Duty 4,
Portal, and even perhaps Mass Effect and Left 4 Dead have made more
headway in their respective genres than Mario Galaxy (or anything that
has come from Nintendo in either of the past two gens, really). Also
it's hilarioius that 2007 was the best year of the decade (for gaming)
to many critics and gamers, yet it's probably one of the weaker years
for GameFAQs ('cuz all of the big games were FPSs, Super Mario Galaxy,
Mass Effect, God of War II, or Rock Band). But yeah for most GameFAQs
guys not to care about the Mario series this gen when we're still
sticking with Nintendo and Square for the most part and other sites are
flocking to all the next-gen stuff, and Galaxy to be weak... IMO there's something about all of Nintendo's newer games that somehow holds them back from the absolute classic status that games like Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, Mario World, Mario 3, and A Link to the Past had. Looking back Metroid Prime didn't feel like top 10 game material, Melee has aged badly, Twilight Princess and Brawl (and even Wind Waker to a slightly smaller extent) feel slightly unfinished. For what it's worth Mario Galaxy didn't do too well in CrispyGamer's Best Game of the Decade contest either. It took a 2 seed and unexpectedly lost to Shadow of the Colossus in round 2. |
