Duh. Can you think of a better character to nominate for contests where just about everyone is tired of seeing Link win then Dark Link? He's going to see more anti-votes then Master Chief at his anti-voting peak!

Exactly. He was about as strong as Vercetti that year anyway. Carl Johnson was just weak.

I dunno tbh, GTA:SA is faaaaaaaaar more character based than say CoD and had like way more success, so it did kinda feel odd that a jobber like Ness could beat him.

hmm, I agree, though when CJ was hot off GTA, i was thinking Tommy Vercetti's he not great, but he's still fairly decent, so it could have gone well.

Didn't Vercetti take a drop in strength in 2005? Vercetti being stronger than CJ wasn't that surprising given that Vercetti was a more likable character, but San Andreas wasn't even released for a year by the time the match came.

Ness was also coming in after a 55/45 win over Jak in 2004, though no one expected a Nintendo shift.

Kefka was a decent midcarder in 2005. Not much lower than he was this past year. And Vercetti's peak was before that anyway.

CJ bombed somewhat, but keep in mind that the picture he got wasn't even him. Looks like RacistFAQS did end up striking after all <_<

The thing is, good GTA art is notoriously hard to find, which is why Niko hasn't gotten a good pic other than his official art even with the picsmiths making pics instead of the admins.

I find it hard to believe Kefka was stronger in 2005 than he was in 2003 when he struggled to beat Pac-Man, Villain's Contest boost or not. Kefka benefited from pathetic competition all the way until the last contest when he (as well as Terra and Cecil) finally showed some actual strength.

If we ever have a second Villains Contest, we should get Golbez and Exdeath in at the least. And Crazy Hand so he can beat FF12's villain.

As far as GTA goes, GTAIV is the most story-oriented (and most realistic) game in the series from what I've heard, so Niko could be the strongest GTA character.

San Andreas' bomb was more the fault of its opponents actually being high midcarder level or something. It's still likely the strongest GTA game. None of the other GTA games really impressed at all in that contest. Yeah I know people are going to throw up Vice City's performance as impressive, but:

1) When you're one of the biggest selling and most critically acclaimed games of the decade, you should be doing better than struggling to beat a niche, LFFd GameCube game that was overrated in the past contest due to StarCraft's shenanigans.
2) Uh, that's it.

The GTA games are still low midcarders at absolute worst, and most definetely not the fodder that people like Ulti and Ngamer want them to be. And they don't deserve to be fodder either.

Did you just call Metroid Prime a niche game?

Anyway, I don't buy the whole RacistFAQs idea. CJ is just a terrible character, so I would never vote for him, that's all. I never liked him, but that has nothing to do with him being black, and everything to do with his terrible personality. Vercetti and Niko are much more likable imo.

Look at another black character, Sazh. He is a great, likable character and I would gladly vote for him. It's really that simple.

I tried to start it too early, right after the contest when we still had stuff to talk about, so most of my stuff was getting ignored in favor of better conversation, which is understandable. I'm also incredibly lazy.

I could probably start over in the next day or two if you guys are still interested, though. It definitely would be a fun project to do while things are incredibly dead here.

I mean, there's Pokemon/Galaxy and Diablo/Starcraft LFF, but it's still impressive how Pokemon is flat-out winning and Diablo III is at a close second. MvC3 is also representing well.

You've been quite awesome this offseason, I'll have you know. Sucks the board totally died, because the NIT deserves votals. Offseason board contests in general have way fewer votals than usual. Even uoty has slacked off a bit of late.

I have a legitimate excuse for not commenting on the poll yet: I was drunk as ****balls last night and completed my first act in my first full-length play I've been writing (yeah, while THAT drunk...drink while you write, edit while you're sober).

So SMG2 just isn't particularly hyped around here...no surprise since SMG bombed, but it's a real shame. Also, Pokemon-with-SMG2's probably going to beat Diablo-3-with-Starcraft-2...and HG/SS was the second most hyped game before FF13 came out. Pokemon's very legit now. Kinda scary!
