Either that or one where no matter what you vote for it all gets counted for one option. --- If you're seeing this sig, Dr_Football won the Guru Contest! |

Not a very funny joke. GameFAX with Link would have been good. Welcome to GameLINKs, where we cover the only character worth being a fan of, your 6-time champion, Link! --- Dr. Football was not stopped by any of us, and won the Guru Contest. |
HaRRicH | Posted 3/31/2010 9:10:38 PM | message detail |
...so the joke is the bonus option, or is there something else I'm missing? Because I don't get it. --- Dr_Football had the best 127-hit combo on B8. I don't know if my health bar will ever recover. Calintares made tons of geolocation x-stats! |

You can use this page I created to vote for the invisible poll option: http://lustersoldier.sitesled.com/Voting_Form.html Assuming you haven't already voted yet. After I started spreading that link around, the "No soap, radio!" option was pulling off some big updates after the board vote ended. It only had 6 votes at the board vote. It went up to 29 on the second update, then to 50 votes on the third update. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as Dr_Football, Guru Champ! |

In
2009, the invisible poll option got 363 total votes. In 2008, it got
568 votes. This year, it's already at 390 votes after 1 hour, 50
minutes. LOL, it might have a chance at breaking 1000 votes this year. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as Dr_Football, Guru Champ! |

So
I don't think we've talked about this since it became official...but
how do you feel about Chocobo being the Guru-nom in the next Character
Battle? What kind of expectations have you got? Chocobo VS Riku, who do you take? --- Dr_Football had the best 127-hit combo on B8. I don't know if my health bar will ever recover. Calintares made tons of geolocation x-stats! |
Not_Wylvane | Posted 4/1/2010 7:15:19 AM | message detail |
Depends on the status on KH3. If we get nothing, Chocobo. If a trailer is released and the game gets a lot of hype, Riku. I don't think Chocobo's going to be that strong, though. Chocobo's recognizable, but it's not like most people actually like the birds. Chocobo's just going to be another Pac-Man, except with new-Square FF characters as its kryptonite rather than Mario characters. I do think Goomba will be much more endearing to voters and Bahamut will garner votes on character design and badassedness in most FF games, so I will enjoy those two outperforming Chocobo in the contest and proving the board to once again have no ****ing clue what the hell it's doing. --- Not Wylvane Dr Football Factor'd. |
HaRRicH | Posted 4/1/2010 7:37:02 AM | message detail |
I'll
agree on Goomba > Chocobo, but I never got the hype on Bahamut;
Chocobo feels like the better choice there. Either way, what's the
latest on KH3? --- Dr_Football had the best 127-hit combo on B8. I don't know if my health bar will ever recover. Calintares made tons of geolocation x-stats! |

The latest on KHIII is that....it won't be the last KH. Marvel characters in KH here we coooome, Cloud vs Wolverine gogogogogogo --- Dr_Football wrecked my bracket with his awesome goals. |
red sox 777 | Posted 4/1/2010 2:55:33 PM | message detail |
I'd guess Goomba > Bahamut > Chocobo. Goomba is the most iconic while Bahamut has the best design. --- Dr. Football was not stopped by any of us, and won the Guru Contest. |
LeonhartFour | Posted 4/1/2010 2:56:28 PM | message detail |
I'd
take Bahamut to be the strongest because I don't expect generic
non-jokes to be worth anything. I don't see people caring about a
generic animal type character that isn't a joke. I dunno. I guess
Goomba could get some sort of joke power going, but I don't think
Chocobo could. --- "Hold on a minute! That testimony stinks!" "Witness! You can't just say 'Dr_Football' and expect us to get anywhere! I want you to testify!" |
charmander6000 | Posted 4/1/2010 3:08:00 PM | message detail |
I'm not too sure about Bahamut. To me he feels like an item that I use every now and then. --- Calintares made a whole lot of geolocation x-stats Congrats to Dr. Football for winning the Guru. |

Would you pick Brawl or RBY to break 40% on FF7? |
red sox 777 | Posted 4/1/2010 6:56:19 PM | message detail |
Probably not. RBY could get pretty close though. --- Dr. Football was not stopped by any of us, and won the Guru Contest. |
HaRRicH | Posted 4/1/2010 7:01:01 PM | message detail |
I'd take RBY to; another Nintendo game breaking 36% on LoZ:OoT is kind of amazing. --- Dr_Football had the best 127-hit combo on B8. I don't know if my health bar will ever recover. Calintares made tons of geolocation x-stats! |

Can
someone (Luster to the rescue maybe) post the average percentage as
well as number of votes from each continent for day matches, night
matches and the 24-hour matches. I'd like to see If I can find a way to calculate how a match would have resulted if it had been done in a different timeframe. (though that requires that I assume the continents stay stable throughout the day, and in some cases (such as with FFVII) that's probably not entirely accurate) --- Ours is not to reason why, ours is but to do and die. |

Thanks. I did a small test on the Zidane/Ike match, and this is the results: Actual result: Zidane 48.45 Ike 41.55 Calculated day result: Zidane: 48.25 Ike: 51.49 Calculated night result: Zidane: 50.40 Ike 49.46 Calculated 23-hour result: Zidane 49.52 Ike 50.36: Note that the numbers don't add up to 100%, that's because I left out Africa. Also note that the actual day result is different from the calculated day result. I'd still say it's within a reasonable margin of error though. --- Ours is not to reason why, ours is but to do and die. |
Calintares | Posted 4/1/2010 8:35:35 PM | message detail |
According
to my calculations, Link would've gotten 52.68% on Cloud in a night
match and Cloud Would've gotten 52.17 on Snake in a night match, how
does this match up with the first 12 hours of those matches? --- Ours is not to reason why, ours is but to do and die. |
HaRRicH | Posted 4/2/2010 9:54:07 AM | message detail |
So
how are you going about doing this? What's the formula? I know
charmander tried to do something similar recently but didn't complete
it. --- Dr_Football had the best 127-hit combo on B8. I don't know if my health bar will ever recover. Calintares made tons of geolocation x-stats! |

the result of geolocation differences, and there are no trends within

red sox 777 | Posted 4/2/2010 10:00:54 AM | message detail |
Er......as
for how one would do that, I guess you could look at the percentages
for each continent/country and then weight them according to the
average votal weights for whatever time period you wanted. --- Dr. Football was not stopped by any of us, and won the Guru Contest. |
HaRRicH | Posted 4/2/2010 10:31:11 AM | message detail |
Yeah,
I think that's what charmander was doing awhile back. I think it's
still worth doing just to compare with next year against our normal
stats, but I think char found many of the percentages didn't change
more than a percent in the division he did and we all agree it doesn't
capture the actual trends by country properly. Whatever though, I support it. --- Dr_Football had the best 127-hit combo on B8. I don't know if my health bar will ever recover. Calintares made tons of geolocation x-stats! |
Calintares | Posted 4/2/2010 11:24:42 AM | message detail |
Red
Sox has it right, And in order to do this I need to make some
assumptions I'm not entirely comfortable with. for one, I have to use
the average vote number for day/night matches, and I know that those
vary (e.g. Asia has a higher degree of participation whenever
FFVII-characters are involved) Secondly, I have to assume that the continents stay stable the entire day, something the Cloud-matches disprove, though part of that might just be FFVII, as those guys are infamous when it comes to being terrible at the beginning of their matches. I don't think I't all that useful to use, except for characters that have huge day/night changes. But I like fiddling around with numbers in spreadsheets anyway. --- Ours is not to reason why, ours is but to do and die. |
LeonhartFour | Posted 4/2/2010 3:36:03 PM | message detail |
You can't fully capture trends in a 12 hour match because you're missing half of it, so yeah. --- "But you have been given freedom. Freedom to be...Dr_Football." "I am lightning...the rain transformed." |

Zynga seems to be acting like a joke entry. It seems to be getting around 54% regardless of its opponent. It's match topics seem to be a ton more active and have a ton of people angry ar Zynga doing well. Zynga vs Valve looks like it has twice as many votes as any of the other contest matches. It might be rallying, but I get the feeling it's more likely to be cheating. Even assuming it's legit, they aren't rally that many votes especially considering this is a multi day poll. On GameFAQs they would only have 12/24 hours to do their work. I guess it's worth noting that unlike on Escapist, you don't need to register to vote. But if this is a Facebook rally, the log in thing might not matter since you seem to be able to vote with a Facebook account in the Escapist contest. --- Dr_Football punted my bracket across the field.
