Eh, it told us what we needed to know about FFX and FFXII. FFX's first poll, it beats FFVI, and we have five characters who are actually worth having in this contest. FFXII can't even beat FFIX, and we don't have one worthwhile character from that game.

ehhh, wasn't that also pretty much the argument against Vincent? If being completely optional and thus pretty much peripheral to the main plot isn't too damaging, not being playable until like the sixth or so chapter shouldn't be too bad either. The good thing about XIII characters is they all feel pretty well tied to the main plot and like we'd be missing out on something if they were gone... no Penelo syndrome.

more like 1/3rd. Just cuz she doesn't come into it until halfway through the chapters doesn't mean much, since the ending chapters are much longer then the beginning ones.

Ehhh, it still takes 15-20ish hours before she ever joins your party though, which I guess isn't bad. I dunno. I find myself having a hard time caring about her for that reason. The other 5 characters are pretty well established by the time Fang comes along.

Oh, there's no doubt Hope will be the weakest of the main six. I like him a lot, but plenty of people don't. I just don't know if Fang will be worth much. At this point, I'm probably just going to nominate Lightning and Sazh unless we get an FFXIII poll and it performs like a champ, and then I'd be open to more. I suppose the one good thing that could help the FFXIII cast is that it's basically those six characters and nobody else who matters. And they're all pretty likable, too.

I think the thing that could help FFXIII is it's the first one of the series on a new platform. Look at FFVII and FFX. First games on the PS1 and PS2 for the series, and it's no surprise that they're the strongest ones of the New Square FFs and potentially the two strongest overall (I suppose FFVI vs. FFX is up for debate). It could do well simply because it's the first FF on the PS3.

I'd like to see the poll in another month or so. The game just came out this month and we're a long way from the next contest, so I don't see the big rush. Besides, FF12 didn't have a character-poll and I think it only had a modern-FF poll but never a complete FF-poll, so I don't know how likely we are to get one for FF13.

Really though, SB has a lot of polls he should run for characters and compared to the series...both old and new ones.

Yeah, he doesn't seem to be TOO open to it though, for whatever the reason. I suggested in a feedback ticket that he should rerun some of those old ones, and he never replied to it. Have we even gotten one of those under his watch? The FFXII poll was all the way back in 2006, when Ceej was still in charge.

I did about a year ago with a lot of suggestions, so he's in no big hurry to do so. Still, he did a lot in the summer of '07.

Some definitely need redoing (Rock Band > GH now), some were missing options (where's Halo?), some polls should be consolidated (PC-RPGS + console-RPGs...and throw in handhelds just to make it an RPG-poll), and some series should just be more important polls to run (MGS-poll > historical-FPS poll).

I made mock bracket for a new character battle idea: only allowing characters that haven't made it to Round 3 in the normal contests. Ideally, 64 characters would make the field, then the day/night split would be used to make this more of a shorter contest, about as long as Villians or Series. Any thoughts about which characters should/shouldn't have been in this bracket? Oh, and predictions would be cool.

I love how there's two potential 16-over-1 upsets, though Dracula > Shepard would be a longshot. I'd have one hell of a laugh if Phoenix ends up beating Seifer and proves there is good reason we've never seen more FF8 characters in these contests.

Pretty sure Dracula takes the 2nd division on his name alone.
