Basically, if Rob counts, then so do controllers since they appear in games on tutorials or control pages. Yes, but their first appearance is what matters. ROBs first appearance was a peripheral. If glitch characters can be entered, I think peripheral-later game characters have an argument. --- All kneel before Dr_Football, Guru Winner |

Doing a quick look at the last update of vcharon's NIT other characters that should be considered... Otacon Roy Lyndis (though Roy as priority IMO) Jim Raynor (Depends on Starcraft II) FFVI characters (Edgar, Sabin, Locke, Shadow, Mog) Other Smash characters (Jigglypuff, Wolf, Mr.G&W, ROB etc.) I'm gonna say bad idea. Lyn is not particularly well-liked by the Fire Emblem fanbase. They would probably support her anyways, but they are highly insane, psychopathic people, so it's not a guarantee. And either way they're not that numerous; the vast majority of Marth and Ike's strength probably comes from Brawl, and I'm not sure how many people who played Brawl would even recognize Lyn. And even with Marth's better exposure he still had to make it through the vote-ins this year; I can't see Lyn doing better than that, and seeing as how pretty much nobody would nominate her on their own without knowing there was a campaign to get her in (character from a seven-year old game in a niche series who is probably #3 for screentime and is not a fan favorite?) she might not even make it into the vote-ins even if we tried. Fox is the only one who should really be considered, imo. The rest
won't be anymore then fodder, though Gray Fox can challenge for the

Three of the MGS-guys mentioned earlier have an argument for being the next in line: Otacon - he's been in most of the MGS-series and has the most face-time and dialog. Psycho Mantis - arguably the most memorable one-time boss of the series with two unique memories to him: reading your memory card and switching controller ports. Gray Fox - may have been the most significant one-time boss of MGS1 and was an Assist Trophy in SSBB. Sniper Wolf and Meryl aren't characters I feel very confident in, though I'd love to see Meryl in sometime anyway. Also, though nobody seems to agree with me, I'd love to see Volgin in sometime. --- Dr_Football had the best 127-hit combo on B8. I don't know if my health bar will ever recover. Calintares made tons of geolocation x-stats! |

would just bomb. Nerd-clique votes and pity votes can only get you so
far when no-one actually cares about you (see: Gordon Freeman). Now
Grey Fox is just cool, I still have a poster of him in my room and even
non-gamer friends comment on how cool he looks. He would get votes on
image alone and it is a travesty he hasn't made the contest yet. --- I've never had a signature before... then Dr_Football looked, narrowed his eyes, and I had one. |

Eh,
but Gordon is basically just an avatar in the games... he doesn't have
enough personality for players to form a real attachment to him (I know
it's bad logic, given the strength of many Nintendo characters but I
digress...). Otacon is a likable person I think, and while Fox is
undoubtedly cooler and is memorable in his own right... I just don't
know how well he'd do given his lone appearance in one game (not going
to count old MG games since they even make Snake look bad). --- :> |

Vitality Sensor isn't a character, though. Wii Balance Board is an actual character you interact with in Wii Fit, which came out the same time as the actual Balance Board, so there's even the argument that the character came out at the exact same time as the peripheral, and thus that makes him eligible. --- Not Wylvane Dr Football Factor'd. |

Yeah Otacon has the best chance at having any kind of strength. I really doubt this. Otacon's very prominent in the game, but he doesn't really have any appeal. Gray
Fox is only in MGS, sure. But that's the strongest MGS game (get this
MGS4 > MGS jibba-jabba outta here), and more importantly the cyborg
ninja shows up again and again in the series. It may be a crutch of
sorts for Kojima and an overused plot point, but that can only help
Fox's strength. That being said, whatever he ends up at will be only a shadow (ha) of what strength he would have possessed in, say, 2002. Little
appeal though? The guy is in all the major games that Snake is in
(minus old stuff). I just can't fathom him being weaker than Gray Fox,
who is a one off and Mantis who is a one time boss and makes a cameo in
MGS4. I just don't think their novelty from one game will exceed
Otacon's lasting appeal on the entire series. --- :> |
