Raiden/Reptile would be a fair enough match. You could argue either way...I'd probably side with Raiden, but both would be okay and I much prefer Reptile.

Reptile plz. I nominate him every year, ok he's not exactly gonna be an elite but he still deserves a shot.

Both would be nice in the NRT, so let's all nominate them both. Reptile I worry about because he could really, really get pic factored if he gets his lizard pictures.

Oh yeah, RB2 has four-player co-op, something SSBB can't even dream of. Seems like co-op has become all the rage these days...not a bad thing at all!

Eh, considering how SCORPION failed to get in this time it could be very hard trying to get Reptile in. There are other characters who would be better suited for a contest.
vcharon | Posted 3/28/2010 1:37:05 AM | message detail
I don't think that means a lot. Sub-Zero needed to be voted in and looked how well he did. Scorpion certainly could have won a match (even two, if for instance he had Jecht's seed) as well.

MoogleKupo141 | Posted 3/28/2010 1:39:39 AM | message detail
Eh, I don't think you should demean people by saying "he looks like a ninja so I'll vote for them". Granted, I come from a major MK site and I know what you're trying to say (it's partially true), but Raiden has a very iconic look and as I said, he's been in more games than anyone else. He's been in as many games as Scorpion has, in fact, and he narrates a lot of them.

Oh, I think Raiden's great... I like Mortal Kombat, and he's probably my third favorite in the series, but in my experience people really like playing as the ninjas, and the degree to which Raiden was below Scorpion in that poll just doesn't make me feel too good about his chances... but I guess those polls have a tendency to be not quite accurate, like with Yoshi beating Mario in the Mario character poll. I guess I'm not totally opposed to the idea of giving him a shot, but if it came down to it, I'd take Reptile over Raiden.

Now to provide some random comic relief:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/r_metroidprime_gc

A METROID game got a PERFECT SCORE from a BRITISH website!

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/r_ssbm_gc

They gave a perfect score to Ulti's favorite GameCube game too! And they didn't give RE4, WW, or TP with such an honor!

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/r_sotc_ps2

But they also imported Shadow of the Colossus and gave it a perfect score...

Relating to my joke post, Eurogamer gave both Shadow of the Colossus and Final Fantasy XII perfect scores.

And Ulti, SotC hasn't been imitated as much as you'd think. The closest thing to it is probably God of War, which was released BEFORE Shadow of the Colossus.

Richter's in Symphony of the Night and he's pretty prominent in it (especially in the game's most infamous scene), so I think he's definitely stronger than Simon. He could be interesting to see.

Ever since I saw someone mention him in the Guru topic I've been thinking we should see him in.

Richter would be fodder and you know it. Just because you're in SotN doesn't mean you're auto-Alucard tier, and that's not even terribly impressive to begin with.
---
It may be insulting, but it's the truth!
Now this is Dr. Football owning my sig for winning the Guru!
Draco1214 | Posted 3/28/2010 5:14:59 AM | message detail
If he ends up being stronger than Simon, that means he'll end up being high fodder, which is more than you can say for a lot of the possible new characters I've seen being thrown around.

I still highly doubt he ends up stronger than Simon. Being in SotN shouldn't be enough to put him above the main character of like half of the series and notable Captain N castmember Simon Belmont.

Well, SotN is apparently much stronger than the rest of the series. There's a reason why Alucard is so much stronger than Simon despite being in only one game.

Not saying Richter will be that strong, but I think it's worth considering.

Alucard made his debut in Castlevania III, as an optional character. In SotN (I've watched Cloud8745 play it on YouTube), Richter actually remembers Alucard and makes a reference to when they met in the NES game.

For the record, neither of the two Castlevania games that made the contest have Simon Belmont, and SotN is the only one that STARS Alucard, but the vampire has been in other games in the series. Though he hasn't been in too many other games in the series.
LinkMarioSamus | Posted 3/28/2010 5:47:18 AM | message detail
@paulg325:

Then I'd like to know how you'd order those three games by quality. Funny thing is that according to charmander6000's x-stats, those are the strengths of those three games relative to each other.

And if Super Mario World isn't the best game of the 2D era, then what is? LttP? SMB3? SMB1? Super Metroid? Chrono Trigger? Final Fantasy VI? Tetris?

Dracula needs to take precedence over Richter. Now that we have seen Amaterasu as a regular contender here, I see absolutely no reason why Dracula would be barred from the contest. Both of the characters are based on myths and legends.

Now I'm going to be made to look like a fool. It was actually TREVOR Belmont who was the star of Castlevania III and not Richter, and Richter makes a reference to when Trevor and Alucard met in the NES game.

Yeah.
Not_Wylvane | Posted 3/28/2010 6:27:55 AM | message detail
Richter would definitely be stronger than Simon. The pre-SotN games certainly ain't that popular here, which is a shame.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3450

Castlevania III lost to Civilization, and CS3 is usually considered the best of the pre-SotN Castlevania games. I have no faith that the other three games would be much stronger, even if they all star Simon. Meanwhile, Richter is a significant character in SotN and even playable after beating the game, as well as in the intro, and has that awesome scene with Dracula everyone remembers.

That's not to say Richter would be anywhere close to Alucard in strength, but he'd be a hell of a lot stronger than Simon (which is a shame, since Simon's the superior Belmont and all).

Also, I'd rather get Raiden in than Reptile, who's much more vulnerable to pic factor and who we've already kinda seen twice already. Raiden has a pretty iconic look that will make him recognizable to most gamers, which would garner him votes against unknowns. Of course, he'd lose support against a character people love, but I'm not convinced that Reptile wouldn't have that same problem. Better to go with the more original design than yet another palette swap that might get horrible pics anyway.

Unless you're one of those who wants Dark Link in the bracket!

It's hilarious how we're all kicking CVIII in the testicles for losing to a game that would've probably murdered it with over 60% of the vote on other sites. Then again, there was that recent list that had Civilization > Doom > Ocarina of Time, so what can I say?

This is why you don't mess up with Civ outside of high votals:

http://archive.gamespy.com/titlefight/brackets.shtml
(look how far Civ3 went here)
Not_Wylvane | Posted 3/28/2010 6:53:37 AM | message detail
To be fair, Gamespy is pretty PC-biased, though it is funny that their final is essentially the same as Gamespot's, between Gordon Freeman and Mario.

I'd love to see Civ 4 make the next Games Contest, though. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the strongest non-Blizzard PC game on the site.

Not to mention other differences:

Halo pasted GoldenEye easily, but was in a close match against...Quake. As weak as Halo is here compared to elsewhere, that's definetely not happening anytime soon!

Vice City beat Metal Gear Solid and then lost to Civ3, which had defeated FFT in the first round. Yeah.

Chrono Trigger narrowly edging out FF7 in one round only to be stopped by KOTOR right afterwards...not happening here.

Diablo II beating Ocarina of Time and then losing to Half-Life...no.

Imagine how weak all of the games in HL's division would be on this site.

Doom and Deus Ex being elites is funny considering that they're fodder here.

TIE Fighter > Super Metroid...not happening anytime soon.

Mario Kart 64 > MGS...again not happening anytime soon.
LinkMarioSamus | Posted 3/28/2010 7:08:39 AM | message detail
Civ4 might be the 2nd strongest PC strategy game on this site, and yeah it would run for...strongest non-Blizzard PC exclusive. That's all I have to say on that.

To be fair, Gamesblog's Best Games of the Decade list has Civ4 at the #10 spot, ahead of stuff like Super Mario Galaxy, Halo, Metroid Prime, Wind Waker...oh wait, that list has Twilight Princess at the #43 spot, and no hint of MGS4, any KH, or any SSB. Yeah. And as weak as Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime are, they're not losing to Baldur's Gate II, Deus Ex, or Civ4 anytime soon here.

But don't flame me for speaking about other sites' results. Let's get back to discussion. For the record, I'm watching NintendoCapriSun play EarthBound on YouTube.

Okay, we can bring another MK character in as a litmus test for the rest of the series. For the record, how strong do you think MKII is on this site. It got 45% on Sonic 2, which may be a decently strong game, but I'm not sure. charmander6000's x-stats have both games being fodder if I remember correctly (if the fodder line is 20%, that is).
TheKoolAidShoto | Posted 3/28/2010 7:38:11 AM | message detail
Oh, and Ricther > Simon. He is the star of what most consider the best pre-SotN CV in Rondo of Blood(a game that was recently remade on the PSP), and he makes playable appearances in SotN, PoR, and that crappy Judgement game >_>

Also, he wears blue, and blue is sooo much cooler than the metrosexual tones that Simon rocks.

I think it is safe to say that Dr. Mario, Toon Link and Young Link would not be allowed. I wonder if SBAllen considers Ice Climbers as one character, probably not since he allowed Nana on her own. Anyway rank the characters that are allowed.
