Starting another discussion topic, which games do you think are the top 10 on this site outside of FF7/OoT? The way I see it the only candidates for #3 spot are LttP, SSBB, SSBM, and RBY.

Woah there Ulti how did you include RE4 without TP? Unless you feel that everytime RE4 was against TP it had an excuse (HL2 in R2, MGS3 in R3, MGS4 in R4).

And I would definetely pick Mario 64 over Melee, though some of it is personal bias. Still, Melee did only 3% better against Ocarina of Time last contest than Mario 64 did in '04 despite not getting the excuse of sharing the same platform...and of SSB generally being SFF-resistant. Yeah.

Melee vs. Mario World/3 might be a bit more of an issue, but I'd pick Melee to win.

Not much commentary with my list, so I'll comment myself on whether some of these characters should return or not.

Arthas Menethil - I'm leaning toward Yes, even though he completely bombed against Kefka. I'm really curious to see how he'd do next year.
Balthier Bunansa - I'm gonna say No here. He doesn't do anything interesting in these contests. He's just weak.
Captain John Price - A Yes here. He's probably the strongest CoD character of the bunch.
Cid Highwind - I'm leaning toward No, though again, I don't really care either way. If you guys want to add another FF7 character, though, then we have to get rid of this guy. But then I wouldn't mind Cid getting a second chance either.
Crash Bandicoot - Even though he impressed this year, it's not like he's ever going to have a winnable match or anything. I'm saying No on this one.
Darth Revan - He turned out to be as strong as we expected despite Terra boosting like mad, but he's still not strong enough to warrant keeping in the bracket, especially if we have HK-47 in the mix. I'll say No.
Donkey Kong - Yes purely because of his legacy of suck. It's always enjoyable watching Donkey Kong bomb because nobody actually likes him.
Ezio Auditore da Firenze - No. Altair is enough representation, plus he's stronger than this jobber.
Falco Lombardi - No. We have enough Nintendo reps as is, and I don't see the point of him when we already have Fox.
Heavy - Yes. I think TF2 needs only one rep, but I think Heavy is more recognizable and more of the mascot of the series than Spy, though I know how debated that is. Still backing Heavy here, though.
Isaac - Depends on when Golden Sun DS comes out. Normally I'd say No, but if GSDS comes out within this year, or better yet, during the next contest, then it'd be worth keeping him around.
Jecht - People complain about too many FF7 characters, but we had five FF10 characters this contest, and Jecht's the weakest of the bunch. Still, I wouldn't mind keeping him around, as we could have an interesting match or two with him. Jecht vs Tidus, anyone?
Ken Masters - I think we need one of Ken or Akuma. I'm leaning toward Ken myself, despite ranking Akuma higher. I especially want to get rid of one if we add another SF character. But yeah, I'm leaning toward keeping Ken myself.
Kratos Aurion - Eh, as weak as he is, we always could use one Tales character to keep around and laugh at when he sucks.
Lloyd Irving - Just one, though. Kratos is the stronger character, so nix Lloyd.
Magus - Why did I put him in this list? It's awesome watching him suck contest after contest! Definitely a must-have.
Miles Edgeworth - No way. At least Phoenix has an iota of strength.

Nathan Drake - Unless we get Uncharted 3 next year, his ship has sailed and went. Take him out.
Ness - Neutral on this guy. He's weak, yet he still has an occasional interesting match. I'll let you guys decide his fate.
Prince of Persia - Someone mentioned him getting a new game and a movie soon. Plus he hasn't looked that horrible in the past until this contest. It's worth giving him another chance.
Proto Man - Eh, I think he's worth another shot. Still a bit of a mystery.
Ramza Beoulve - Nah. He's had enough chances, and he keeps squandering them. He's a less-amusing Magus in these contests.
Ratchet - He's weak, but if we have to have a Sony platforming mascot, better him than Crash or Jak. Still leaning toward No, but I wouldn't care if he comes back anyway. He's almost a contest staple at this point. Then again, so is Guybrush
Ridley - After his match against Cloud, definitely. First impressive match he's ever had.
Roxas - He got his game and still didn't do much to impress. No.
Shadow the Hedgehog - Yes, again for contest amusement, plus he might actually win a match one of these days.
Simon Belmont - Neutral on this one. He had his best performance yet this contest, which still wasn't that impressive. He may have potential, but not against anyone recognizable.
Spy - I think he's the weaker of the two TF2 characters, so No.
Zidane Tribal - He can still have a debatable match or two, so Yes.

I hope Pac-Man returns next year. He's pretty underrated, since despite his strength he usually has some good matches. He exposed Kefka in 2003, upset Ocelot in 2005, and beat Ness in 2008. As long as he isn't facing Mario characters, he's not that bad.

I almost said I wish he'd come back, but after researching a bit it turns out he was in the 2007 and 2008 contests and was in the vote-ins this contest with a very distant sixth place. Shows how memorable he is in these things.

Garland.. or theoretically one of the other FF1 guys, but I like Garland for it more since he's an actual named guy who you absolutely have to encounter, unlike the party members who you just choose among... and also he's Dissidia playable and I think he has other appearances in the series.

Bahamut (totally the best idea for a new comer)

Happy Mask Salesman (A Zelda character and a potential joke guy. Come on. He's so great. Ok, maybe I'm overrating him, but shut up I don't care.)

Aside from HMS, really any OoT character would maybe be interesting. We haven't seen anyone other than the major characters of the series... someone like Darunia or Saria or HMS could make for a good entrant.

Dragon Quest Slime for the same reason as a Goomba or Chocobo... we've never seen anyone DQ in a contest, and Slime's definitely the best potential representative for the series.

Professor Oak or Brock maybe... or a bunch more Pokemon.

Also Reptile or Noob Saibot if we can get them only palette swap type pictures. I could see them doing pretty well since Sub-Zero's so good and Scorp was pretty good too. I think a lot of people like Reptile.

Fact or Fiction

Dependant on your definition of "one of the best"... like, how far does that go? I'd say it's top 100, not top 50.

The only reason this poll was run was because of the midnight launch of DSi XL in the US today. I don't expect any other "Got Console?" polls, not when April Fool's Day is coming up soon.

I used Geolocation to track where the votes for DSi XL came from. There were 7 votes for DSi XL at the freeze. They came from the following locations:

California, Delaware, Iowa, Maine, Minnesota, New York, Tennessee, Virginia, and Washington

And for outside the US: Canada and Brazil

Assuming only one vote for each of those regions, that's 11 recorded votes for DSi XL, when there were only 7 at the freeze. I checked out all of the regions before the second update kicked in.

I don't know if anyone cares to try and make adjustments to certain day or night matches to see what match results might have been changed due to the day/night thing. But I do have the average vote totals for every region for the day/night matches.

As much as I like Raiden, I don't think that's good evidence for getting him in. He finished a distant third in a poll which only featured the original cast. People really like the pallette swap ninjas, and I think Reptile or Noob would be stronger than Raiden based on their design alone. I guess even Ermac or Rain could do sort of ok if they got a picture that makes them look just like red/purple versions of Sub-Zero... except Rain is really lame, so maybe not.

but yeah, Reptile. Better choice.

I think IV's easily the best GTA, but despite the extremely high reviews and stuff, there are a lot of people who don't care for it much because they really liked playing the older GTAs for over the top rampaging... the removal of tanks and flyable planes and other stuff like that really irked some people.

Dragon Quest isn't super huge here, but it's stil got some fans... this is a sort of old poll, but DQ at least outdid Xenosaga which has managed a sort of not totally awful fodder character. Slime should be able to beat like... Laharl. That's something! ;>_>

GoW2 and RB2 aren't much more different from their predecessors than Brawl is... grouping L4D with them is kind of odd. L4D's the best of those three, but it has the flaw of really not having enough content. I enjoyed it a lot, but when you compare it to L4D2, L4D seems like an incomplete game. These games definitely have better online systems than Brawl, but that's not enough to make up for Brawl being otherwise more fun. There's no game I'd rather play with a group of people in the same room than Brawl... I've done Gears of War 2 LAN party type things a couple times where we've hooked up 3 or 4 360s and and played and that can be a lot of fun, but it's still not on the level of Brawl.

and Tales of Symphonia totally the best game on a Nintendo console this decade ;>_>... but uh, I'm sure that's an unpopular opinion

Eh, I don't think you should demean people by saying "he looks like a ninja so I'll vote for them". Granted, I come from a major MK site and I know what you're trying to say (it's partially true), but Raiden has a very iconic look and as I said, he's been in more games than anyone else. He's been in as many games as Scorpion has, in fact, and he narrates a lot of them.

Gears of War 2 added Horde Mode. Rock Band 2...yeah, plainly obvious most people like music games more than fighters now, heh. Left 4 Dead was not meant to be compared to its sequel, and it's practically a polar opposite of SSBB.
