Dark Link is pretty cool in his own right, and he may have some artificial strength as well...but I think charmander's pretty spot-on with the Pokemon Trainer Red comparison. A name and recognition alone aren't going to cover you, and Dark Link's really just a mini-boss in LoZ:OoT and a more important boss in two of LoZ's lesser games. He's certainly not beating Ganon/Zelda, and I'm not convinced I'd take him over Epona.

Well, I'm quite open to the idea of Mario dropping, but considering how much opposition I was getting earlier just from putting Mario a couple points below Samus and Sephiroth, I'm not sure I want to argue for Mario being even lower than that.

As for Sonic, he was already pathetic in 2008. He's lucky he didn't face Link that year.

I guess you can call Charizard a strike against him, but considering what Charizard just got done doing I wouldn't.

Basically his only 'bad' match was against Link, and we had just got done seeing Link SFF Sonic to Luigi levels, sooo...

The fact that Luigi seemed to escape SFF much more than Mario and Sonic did doesn't sit well with me. Mario's going to have to lay it on the line against Cloud/Snake/Sephiroth before I take him being in the 45% tier on Link as given.

But Luigi didn't escape SFF. Consider that Bowser would be expected to get 42% on Mario through Charizard - you can bring Charizard down a little for bandwagon purposes if you like, but I wouldn't. Bowser and Mario probably faced the same guy. Now, what's Luigi supposed to get on Mario taking both their matches against Link at face value? 41%! That says to me that Luigi got SFF'd proportionally as bad as Mario did.

Not really. He got 38% on 2002 when it seems pretty likely he should've gotten 43% or so. Link/Mario SFF makes a whole heck of a lot more sense than WDF. The next time the faced was the 2006 Battle Royale, when he got obliterated. He did do pretty well in 2007 with 38% again in a double SFF match, but 2008 he got beat up bad and in 2010 he got beat up bad.

Mario's better taking it than Samus, who's struggled to break 30% since her 38% in 2003, but that's probably because Mario is stronger than Samus. He doesn't appear to have any special means of resisting Link SFF.

It also doesn't tell us how badly Luigi or Mario were SFF'd, only that it was about the same to both of them.

This is of course true but also sort of besides the point.

Haha, hell yeah, Epona's beating Ness. Seriously though, what kind of attachment are people building to Dark Link? If he gets proxy votes, he should beat Epona...if not, Epona should win. It's pretty simple, but in a SFF-battle I think Epona can avoid proxy-votes. If Pokemon Trainer Red couldn't get many votes to support him against Revolver Ocelot, I can't support Dark Link to beat major players just because he's got Link in the name. How many people are going to really support a silhouette of their favorite character?

Malon? I don't think so. I think there are probably a number of other Zelda characters that would be higher up. I'm personally campaigning for the Happy Mask Salesman if we really need a "joke character" with the Legend of Zelda backing--he's definitely unconventional enough to get the joke vote, and he's been in three LoZ games (Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask--his biggest role--and Oracle of Ages). But you know who we've all forgotten when considering potential Legend of Zelda characters? Impa. She's been in, what, probably more than half of them? Okay, it wasn't quite that many, but she was in both of the NES Zelda games, Ocarina of Time, and the two Oracle games. She's definitely not challenging the upper tier, but she could easily win a match, maybe two with the right bracket placement.

Also: Needs more NIS.
