Samus would not be eligible, unless something changed in MP3 that I
don't know about. Shadow Mario too possibly, although I can't remember

Dark Link will not be another Link, heck Ocarinca of Time Link would not be as strong as Link. Linkfear in this topic indeed. You know what Bacon should do next year. Rerun the 2002 bracket. It would work better in 2 years since that would be the 10th Character Battle and the 10th anniversary. Dark Link would do one of two things: 1. Be a near-elite. 2. Ruin every contest we may ever have. I give both about even odds. Why take the risk? I can't see the second happening. Dark Link will be weaker than Link and you can't go too far lower than Link before Cloud can take you out. --- Dr_Football punted my bracket across the field. could see Dark Link v Cloud going screwy even if Dark Link wouldn't end
up a contest ruiner. Link/Cloud is just too entrenched in this

think people have no problems admitting that the reason they don't want
to see Dark Link is "Dark Link FEAR". I used to want to see him due to
my love for Link and curiosity on his strength, but the results could
be too horrible, and the benefits aren't really there to offset that. The main benefit is if you hate FF7 or something, and want to see another character that has the potential to beat Cloud for #2. what, Dark Link was the mastermind in AoL...? He was the final boss
fight but I didn't realize he actually had some story purpose. I
thought the bad guys were just Ganon's "minions" trying to resurrect
him. Dark Link was their leader in Zelda canon? I'd be surprised if

don't know the Dark Link is as much of a danger as people are
suggesting. I agree that most people would vote for it for the wrong -
or at least stupid - reasons ("He's Link - BUT DARK!"), but it's not
like we've ever used people's reasoning for voting for a character as a
justification for not nominating them. And I'm as bad a Link fanboy as anybody, and I wouldn't treat Dark Link as some sort of proxy for Link. It just doesn't work like that. I don't plan on nominating him, but I really don't see the big deal if he happens to get in. At worst, I could imagine him making a very big splash in his first year and doing better in that year than he would in subsequent years. He's not going to be strong enough to beat Cloud. If Link fans were as "robotic" as the people here jokingly (or seriously, I can't even tell anymore) claim they are, Zelda and Ganon would be the #2 and 3 guys in the contest. LoZ fans know who Dark Link is, and he's a boss in AoL and OoT, and a costume swap in Brawl. While simply being based on Link's design can make him the fourth strongest Nintendo character, it won't be enough to topple the Noble 9 and give us a Link vs. Link final every year. Link is lose-lose to me. He could end up being not strong (i.e. below
Ganondorf and Zelda, which wouldn't surprise me the least bit. Look at
the difference you get when you change the word "Solid" to "Liquid"),
or he could break the contest by being Cloud level or by becoming the
strongest joke character (can you imagine how hard the Nintendo fanbase
would laugh at Dark Link > Cloud?). There's a chance he ends up as a
high midcarder or near-elite, but the risks here (contest ruination)
far outweigh the rewards (one more near-elite). --- Dr. Football was not stopped by any of us, and won the Guru Contest. |

He was as legitimate as golden old man Ganondorf. Dark Link just feels like a slippery slope kind of thing. He's Link and he's black. I don't think there's a single person who actually prefers Dark Link to Link, it would be like the leechiest leech of a guy ever. Although,
I think it's very probable that Charmander is right on this. I'm a huge
Link fan, and there's very few characters I'd vote over him. If he
weren't 6-time champion, the number would be 2 only. Dark Link? Well,
he's probably in the top quarter of all notable characters in games
I've played, but that still leaves tons of characters I'd vote over him. --- Dr. Football was not stopped by any of us, and won the Guru Contest. |

To change gears a bit, what was the Oblivion character that we thought would do well? wow, uh... none of them? I love Oblivion, but I can't even remember any of the characters aside from Uriel Septim or whatever who's out of the picture pretty quickly and the annoying fan who follows you around after you beat the arena... oh, and one really obnoxious shop keeper.
